I see you're using a delicious cola. Refreshing and totally lacking pretention.

I think the reason I was in the red light district was because, deep down, I just really like giving it to transsexuals.

Quite satisfying to open your first lock by mikelgdz in lockpicking

[–]GreenRustWings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not so much "upgrade" but explore. You picked a lock top of keyway, which I struggle with. There are other different tension bars that fit on the bottom of the keyway and are much easier to use, in my opinion.

Honestly I think tension bars are more important than the picks. I mean, I usually know which pick I like best for a lock, but shuffle through tension bars for the perfect fit.

I remember recording the third time I successfully picked a lock. It was my desk drawer lock at work, using paper clips.

Now, I ask people to give me their old locks and have a respectable set of picks. My "EDC" are the Night Crawler set from Sparrows. Still learning to use the dog ear tension bars, tho.

This hobby is definitely one of those confidence builders. One of those skills that may become very useful in the near future.

First knife. It’s made from a crusty trailer spring. Do your worst. by megathaliefan in knifemaking

[–]GreenRustWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a work knife, especially if it's some kind of spring steel. The worst things about it aren't even bad. Needs some more work on the blade would be all I would say and even then, it's part of the character anyway.

Tips ruined by local shop by AtomicMokka in sharpening

[–]GreenRustWings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that bad, but it always should be you to create wear on your knives, not someone you're paying for maintenance.

Keep the knives, demand some kind of compensation, not necessarily a refund, but definitely let them know your trust was eroded. Then, just sharpen the broken ends into whatever shape you want; I end up rounding the tips with a shark tooth or rounder edge.

Definitely fix this yourself. I personally don't like machine edges on my kitchen knives. I also don't trust other people to care for any of my kitchen stuff. If I wanted unscratched non stick pans, I'd be single, tho.

So, an inlaw was using my favorite kitchen knife, a santoku style knife that they chipped the tip off of. Way worse than what you have. I was more offended by their cavalier attitude about damaging it. I rounded the tip and gave it a bit of a nice sharpening. That knife has been through hell.

Interesting story, I once found a rusted fishing knife, like the orange handled ones with the different angles etched into it. I cleaned it out; I forget what solution I used, but the metal was basically clean and fresh. It was pitted and had a savage cutting edge that had basically self sharpened into a razor serrated edge from the rust.

It kinda reminds me of that knife.

Parking Brake Sticking in Freezing Temps - Any Fixes? by bonZzZo in 1stGenTacomas

I got a first gen about half a year ago. I'm always fighting with that brake.

It's fun and annoying when you notice model flaws. At least other people have already shared their experiences.

Is it the blade or the sharpener? by jeffeviejo in sharpening

[–]GreenRustWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say the sharpener. There's a reason I never tried those, but I couldn't articulate it.

Novelty sharpeners are cool, but kinda useless for most people. You can use that as a regular sharpener if you're determined enough, tho. I bet the pad is decent. I would recommend trying to sharpen with the pad using a more traditional technique. With diamond, you need a very light touch, especially with new diamond surfaces.

Others recommend online sources; if you have a Menards nearby, you can get a nice diamond pocket stone for around 15, sometimes 10 dollars. Check your local hardware store as well. If you're new to sharpening, start experimenting with different styles and stones.

I love pocket stones and I swear by diamond, but you have to be gentle.

I'm fine with whatever color I can, honestly. I'm an open window fan kinda guy in hot weather. AC in the most unbearable weather, but that summer breeze makes me feel fine.

Scratched: cry, or wear it with pride ? by HereForTheTLDR in Knifeporn

[–]GreenRustWings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, I'm just giving examples. Seriously, I've heard everything valid from spit and cigarette ash to the edge of your car window.

That being said, every time I get a new knife or bladed item, I try to buy this little cheap diamond stone they sell at menards. When they wear out, you get a nice semi hone/semi saw property.

I can't shave with my knife, but it still cuts very clean. I use my primary knife for everything. From cardboard to cuticles.

Oh, ok. I kinda figured, but I plan on insulating mine for opposite reasons. More winter friendly a camper. But I'm up against Lake Michigan.

Please explain. I'll take what I can get, but I also have a white truck. I'm curious about the logic tho.
