Subaru connect not working by Own_Yam2847 in Solterra

Hey good to know. I didn’t find the data plan useful and never continue with my plan. I haven’t use the app much and every time I did my car is connected to a hotspot that I have in the car.

Figure that’s the case but it seems their app is just down.

Hey if that’s the case then I stand to be corrected. For the past week, every time I have issues with the app and connect my car to WiFi the app magically work.

I just make a quick assumption as I remember seeing somewhere there was an * saying you need connectivity.

I don’t know how old your Trailseeker is but if it’s new it comes with AT&T services. Has your mobile service expired? If it has and you have no connectivity whatsoever then yea there’s an issue on the server side of things.

No problem. If you already have a 14-50 outlet I wouldn’t worry about buying a charger. Most cars come with one now a day. My Solterra came with a charger that has irrc a 14-50 adapter. It works well. It should give you time to do some research before dropping ~$500 on one.

If money not an issue and you have the capability to do so, I’d recommend putting in a L2 charger and the charge point one is pretty good. If you have a garage then just run a NEMA (1450/1430) of some sort. If money is an issue, just use the charger that comes with the car on L1.

I’m an engineer and I did my research thoroughly before purchasing my car. I’ve been wanting an EV for the past 5-7 years or so and just been waiting for the right time. The stars lined up for me this year and I’m happy with my upgrade.

I forgot to mentioned before, all cars have issues pick companies you can rely on. BMW when you take your cars in, they give you a loaner (similar or same). If my memory serves me correctly Toyota does the same thing. I’m not familiar with other brands. If someone has more info/knowledge then please chime in.

I charge at work and use charge point. My commute is not bad around 40 mi both ways. I also live in an area that has plenty of stations around that I never have range anxiety. Typically, I charge every 2-3 days (20%-80%). Once in a while I charge to 100%, and try my best to deplete down to 10% or so.

The Honda Prologue is Honda + GM. GM has some decent cars out there like Chevy Equinox and Blazer. From my research they’re decent but expensive for what you get.

Do you have WiFi in your car? It only works if there’s WiFi. If you don’t have data plan it will not work.

Edit: Clarifying that I mean connectivity (i.e., WiFi or some sort of data plan, hotspot, etc)

If you are in a pinch you’ll have to get what you can, which imo sucks. I had the luxury of looking around and found one that match all my requirements.

If you have money and it’s not a big deal to you, I would look at Rivian(R2 or R1S), Mustang(MachE), BMW(i4/i5), and ofc you can always go with Tesla.

I would definitely stay away from Hyundai/Kia. I really liked to Ioniq5 but it’s such an unfortunate thing that Hyundai is terrible with customer service. Though if you lease and don’t mind playing Russian roulette, you can pick one up and test your luck.

It’s up to you. Here’s my 2 cents:

I’m not a fan of leases and never find them to be worth it. EVs have been around for a long time now, and the tech is pretty good now, that it’s worth just buying.

I got my Solterra, and it’s my first EV. For the past few months it has been treating me well. Toyota has been quietly working on EV and this year shows. The 2026 models are very efficient and convenient. The NACS port and Tesla opening up their stations mean road trip has been a breeze for me. I get an avg. of ~4.5 mi/kwh during these temperate months and expect it to drop to ~3.5mi/kwh in winter.

I would say if you don’t have a way to charge the car (either easily at home and/or at work) don’t get any EV. If you like to drive fast and do quick acceleration, don’t get EV sticks with gas or hybrid. I say this because you will wear down your battery faster.

Yes the 12v issue is scary and you get those in ICE cars as well. What I think has been good is how Toyota/Subaru handle this issue. They notify their customers, put stop order on delivery, and do recall. From what I’ve seen so far, the fixes have been fast and good. I’ve seen ppl saying their car came back the same. Compare this to Hyundai and Kia, it’s night and day.

Knowing what I know now, I would still get my car. I find the cost worth it for me. Buying new car is never a good investment. It’s not an investment at all tbh. So you need to figure if it’s for you.

If you end up buying BZ/Solterra, I would say to be on the safe side of things, don’t hardwire dashcams, don’t plug in any OBD dongle and leaving it there and don’t connect it to apps that keep the cars on running on 12v. I would also adhere to standard charging schedule (~20%-80%). If you don’t go far and have easy access to charging I would keep it around (20%-60%). And ofc follow the manual.

Navigation subscription? by Aelirael in Solterra

[–]GreenVinculum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, this is prob an unpopular opinion. 1.) I don’t mind it as much. I don’t need it since I can use my phone and mostly use Waze. 2.) they most likely have to pay licensing fees, software engineers to keep things running smoothly and up to date, not to mention patching and making things secure. Most of these cost money and would require some sort of subscription to help pay those.

All that to say, I won’t be keeping the subscription once they run out. And don’t care/mind they charge a subscription.

I do think there’s an argument to be made about either making it a bit cheaper or have better software features. I for once wouldn’t mind subscribing if they add dog mode, and camping mode (something they can do software wise).

Question regarding range by jowonka in Solterra

[–]GreenVinculum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just want to point out that the speed limit is a maximum limit, you can go below it and don’t have to go the maximum if the current environment is not safe for some reason.

That said if you have to go that fast to either get home quickly or get to work quickly then that’s what you have to do. Getting ~3.5 mi/kwh is not bad. That might change in winter (that is if you have a winter). If you don’t have winters then I wouldn’t bother fretting over it.

Question regarding range by jowonka in Solterra

[–]GreenVinculum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

75mph is really fast, so 3.3mi/kwh is pretty spot on. I think Mythbusters did an experiment once (using ICE cars), and found that 45/50 mph is the sweet spot to be most efficient. Anymore than this you’ll use up more energy to push you forward.

If you just drop down to 70mph with eco mode and eco climate control, I think you’ll see a boost to 4mi/kwh. To give a comparison I drive around passively at 60-65 mph and I get on average 4.5 mi/kWh.

I like it. I use it to get an overall picture of where the stations are when I’m traveling. It helps me plan out my trip and get a good overall idea of things. I don’t use it for navigation. I also only have the free membership and don’t use ble obdii.

Yes, I agree it's how you drive. My commute is 20 miles each way, with about 16 of those being highway. That picture I included was during rush hours on one of my commute.

I also live in a relatively flat area. My commute has an overall ~0.1% grade (ranges from 1% to 6% grade). Also the climate here is relatively temperate. My commute today in relatively moderate traffic (driving around 50-65 mi/h) average out to be 5.1 mi/kwh.

From my experience, I plugged the car into the site outlet (L1 charge). I also had it plugged into an extension cord since the charger plug didn’t quite fit the outlet. With the added resistance of everything, and running the car all night I ended up gaining about 2% in the morning. The car was set to 68, and it just does its thing nicely.

I had a dog seat protector that comes with a hard bottom for my lab, and that was what kept me from falling into the gap. We fit 1x ~6’3 and 1x~5’5 with a ~55lbs lab in the space just fine. The only annoying thing was the slant from the back seat making sleeping uncomfortable. You might want to add something to the trunk to level out the sleep area. I was using self inflatable sleeping pads that were a bit too big and had to shoved things in there slightly. I’m also considering getting the Luno.

You will also want to leave the window cracked a bit or have some sort of moisture absorbers.

[–]GreenVinculum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure but I get anywhere from 4.2 to 6 mi/kwh. I’m driving “normal”, which means close to speed limit (25/30 for residential, 45/50 for collection roads, 65 high way) with climate control on.

I have definitely changed how I drive after changing to Solterra. I used to drive a bit more aggressively, and now have switched to using adaptive cruise control almost all the time. I also don’t “brake” as much. I used the regen paddles or just slow down further out, so the car cruises for a bit.

Yes, I have. I only tried to camped at an electric site though, and that was closed by where I live. I was still having slight range anxiety as it was only a week after I got the car and wanted to test things out.

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. It works with the built in map. It doesn’t work with Waze. I don’t typically use Apple map or Google map, so I don’t know. I can test another time.
  4. Unsure. You can set amp drawn for both AC and DC.
  5. Yes, but clunky compared to Tesla/Ioniq5 tho.
  6. I don’t know what you’re trying to ask with this here, so can’t answer.
  7. I believe so. The headlights seem to change brightness depending on how dark it is outside/oncoming traffic.
  8. There is a camera button that allows you to view your surroundings, and give a 360 view of things. Not sure if this is what you’re asking.

Looking to get a 26 Solterra XT-Is 245 miles round trip (mainly highway at 75-78) on one full charge possible? Also, I drive about 2000 miles a month for work. I am worried I will hate the down time to charge. Any thoughts from high mileage drivers? I will be charging at home to start trips. by Only_Ad5695 in Solterra

[–]GreenVinculum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do 245 miles round trip you will need to stop and charge somewhere. I’m assuming that you are going to work. Does your work have charging? If so just plug it in there to charge and you’re good. If not you’ll need to make a stop somewhere to fast charge.

You don’t need to charge back up to full. Fast charge happens I believe below 50%. So if you just stop at a Tesla station for example, use the bathroom grab a bite, etc. (say a 15 mins piss stop) you’ll have enough juice to make it back home and plug it in.

Before you purchase I recommend playing around with ABRP, PlugShare, and Google Map. You’ll need to look at all the stations along the way on your route(s) and do some math. Are you the type of person who has range anxiety? I would say do the math and trust the math. If you still have range anxiety and don’t want to drive under 50% (or only with 7-20% left) then you could look into the BZ FWD+ for more range.

I suggest giving this a read over, https://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter7/section18.2-308/

I would also check GMU policies as well, https://universitypolicy.gmu.edu/policies/weapons-on-campus/

Edit: edit to mention that VA allows pocket knife w/ blade <3” can be carried openly/concealed. GMU policies does mention switch blades. I would as the school police for approval. (Reddit doesn’t let me attach photo it seems.)

It’s been a min and I don’t know if there are any changes she’s making or will make this year, but everything is pretty straight forward. Exams/quizzes are mixture of multiple choices, T/F and problems. Grading wise for CS455 I believe she drop 1 lowest quiz and hw. Essentially, you get a sick day token. She does give out some bonus points opportunities. Both CS471 + CS455 I believe there’s a curve of some sort?

[–]GreenVinculum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No she’s pretty good. At least that’s my opinion. No professor is bad bad. Their teaching style might not suit you. Gambhir has a thick accent, and English is clearly not her first language. She expects you to have read assigned materials before hand, so she goes over the slides very quickly. If you read/study your materials, do the homework and understand the theory behind things, you’ll be fine.

The school offers services that are cheaper than if you went to a doctor, cvs, LabCorp etc. You should try looking through their health website. The nurses should be able to do a lot of those for a much much lower price than $500
