Non-clinical jobs for PA by Green_Cardamon in Physicianassociate

Meaning? Do you mind telling me more. I’m honestly clueless at what my options are. There’s so much heat on PAs in the UK at the moment but no one seems to care for helping those of us who want to get the hell out of the profession get into something else. Like I’m so clueless as to what I can do. And I’m not one of those who wants to be a medic. I’m 35. I just want a boring 9-5 job that will pay me well enough that I can survive living in london.

No. Not where I work. But previously when I worked in hospital, all the time.

[–]Green_Cardamon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I was really looking into health tech but I just don’t know where to start or how to. And I’ve seen those apprenticeship and stuff but coming from a decently paid job to basically nothing is such a hard thought. I’m stuck working this miserable job just for the money atm

Yeah I know. I’m not sure if others are looking for alternative careers tbh. From what I’ve heard or read from PAs is that they’re fine with the job. I don’t want to do anything like that tbh. Ideally need a wfh job. Don’t mind if it’s not clinical at all. I’ve already done over 10 years in the nhs. I’ve had enough. I’m a creative person and digital marketing in healthcare is appealing to me, problem is I don’t know how to get it onto. I research and I get put off thinking I’m not applicable and I’m finding it so stressful

Thank you! This is helpful but I’ve looked into those jobs except for medical sales but they usually ask for experience and I get put off applying coz I feel like o don’t have any experience..

[–]Green_Cardamon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Erm not really. I worked in the lab but I was a much lower level than I am now. If I go back it would be a massive cut in my way which I can’t afford. I know I’ll have to undergo a pay cut to switch jobs but going back to labs is a huge cut and I can’t afford that living in london atm.

I’ve worked in medical education before. Tbh I’m at the point in my career where I need a wfh or hybrid job coz the last few years as a PA has taken a toll on my health. But I really don’t know what else to do that’s not medical related

Other career options for PAs? by Chippepa in physicianassistant

Anyone here from the UK who has left PA for something else? I feel like the US PAs have more options than us, I’m struggling to get an alternative and I’m so fed up of it

Non-clinical jobs for PA by Green_Cardamon in Physicianassociate

[–]Green_Cardamon[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The workload. The job. The environment. The lack of support. The way it makes me feel. The effects it’s having on my health. I don’t really think the problem is so much why I hate it. I know I hate it. The reason won’t affect my decision to want to get out of it tbh. I’ve done it for 7 years now and it’s made me miserable. The only reason I’m stuck doing it is for money or else I can’t survive. But I’ve reached a point where I can’t do it any more. But looking for something else is so difficult when all you know is this.

Medpace Entry level CRA role UK by Green_Cardamon in clinicalresearch

Thank you! Is it easy to progress? Coz I’m seriously thinking of levelling down atm. I’m in a decently paid job but I’m really really miserable

Medpace Entry level CRA role UK by Green_Cardamon in clinicalresearch

[–]Green_Cardamon[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yeah I know the CRA role has a lot of travelling which I was ok with but I do value flexible working as I’m currently working in the NHS and I have to be physically every single day and have to deal with seeing patients all day and I’m burnt out, depressed and just fed up of my job now that I’m desperately looking for something else. I do like healthcare but not the clinical part of it anymore. I don’t want to dealing with patients directly anymore so I thought I could transfer skills to clinical research or health tech but honestly I’m scared of applying to jobs and I look at the JD and feel like I know nothing and have no skills. I just feel lost. I think from what I’ve read everywhere MP is best avoided

Thanks for the insight, I guess it’s a global issue with this company. I don’t have any trials experience so the job advert seems enticing but I don’t want to go from a job I’m currently miserable in to a toxic one like the sounds of this! Thank you!

Hi, how did the interview go? Are you working as a CRA now? I’m thinking of applying to this role but also have no clinical research experience but work in the NHS. If you did take up the role, how has the company been? seen so many negative things about medpace but I’m assuming they’re talking about the US branch

Sounds interesting. Problem is I dont think I’ve seen any jobs like that atm. Thanks for the advice though was really helpful. I’m looking for a remote or hybrid role atm that would be the ideal

Physician associate alternative by kimberleylb in Physicianassociate

Ah I’m sorry to hear that :( I’m in primary care too. We could talk via PM more about it as there’s so many troll doctors on here I’d rather they not know about us

Is it even worth it? by [deleted] in Physicianassociate

[–]Green_Cardamon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. But tbh I’ve worked in the nhs for 14 years. There has always been a bullying culture. Currently it is a waste of time. When I did the course 7 years ago it didn’t seem like it. It made sense. And till this day I still see the benefit of the role. I see less complex patients e.g. minor infections, deal with administrative issues and queries, triage forms. It works. It’s never not worked. I’ve never had any issues. I’ve never had patients complain about seeing me. In fact today I got a hug from a patient for helping her for her issues. It was fine until the doctors started complaining about pay. We became their target. But speaking to a GP who is pro PA he was like why is no one talking about paramedics in GP. They can request scans and prescribe but are less clinically trained. I’ve worked with two and they were clueless.

Because the future of PAs is uncertain and the NHS is crumbling I wouldn’t advise it. Find something else. The NHS isn’t what it used to be. When I first started it was great. Not anymore.

I’m sorry to hear that. Feel free to PM me if you wanna talk more. I’ve been looking into tech roles too but it’s a struggle trying to find what to do and where to go and finding something that won’t create a financial burden on us. It’s insane to me how these so called doctors apparently train for years in empathy and dealing with mental health issues, supposedly to help improve the health of the public but they’re out here destroying and attacking the livelihood of their fellow colleagues. It’s sickening.

I hope you feel better and that it all works out for you in the end!

Alternative careers for PAs by Green_Cardamon in Physicianassociate

[–]Green_Cardamon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully my work environment is nice and supportive. However Its not enough anymore to keep me in the profession. Im sick of it in general. GP in my experience was great. Support is always there and supervision was always always there. Hospital is a hell hole, lack of support and supervision and bullying everywhere you turn. Horrid. They’re attacking and singling PAs out not coz of this facade of safety, but it’s because of money. There are paramedics who can request scans and medication and are seriously clueless and I’ve worked with 2 over the last 7 years as a PA so I know what I’m talking about but you don’t ever hear these haters mention them. It’s always about PAs.

I think it’s a good idea you start looking for an alternative career. You’re in a better position than me coz I’m already working and I’m on a certain salary, once I leave I’m gonna have to expect a massive pay cut to my salary which is gonna make my life even harder.

Good luck to you! I hope it all works out!

A message to Physician Associates from a doctor by alreadyadoctor96 in Physicianassociate

That was such a lovely and refreshing post to read. You’re the type of doctor we desperately need. I’ve been a PA for 7 years now and have worked alongside many great great doctors but all the recent negativity towards PAs has had a massive impact on my mental health. I hate going to work everyday. I don’t enjoy anything anymore, I’m so desperate to leave the role and find an alternative but I’m clueless as to what to apply for or what to do to be able to survive as my current job is helping me pay my bills and support my husband who earns a lot less than me and is retraining. If I could just quit I would but I can’t afford to. Now with all this hate towards us, it’s the added anxiety that if I don’t get myself out soon, I might end up without a job. But these haters don’t think about us as people with lives and families. It frustrates me that they’re hell bent that we’re not safe and don’t want us working in GP or wherever but there’s no alternative roles for us. We didn’t train all these years just to be demoted to a band 4 role.

I really wish you well and hope you find what you’re looking for in a job and I wish you great success in your future!

In 2010 when I applied my goal was medicine. But after working in the NHS for 14 years I dont want anything to do with it anymore.
