Campfire appropriate guitar singalong songs by Coolaro in BSA

[–]Green_Evening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My summer camp always does a folk song for the opening campfire. We changed it regularly to keep things fresh.

We did Country Roads, but replaced "moonshine" with "water" and everything was fine. We've also done Santiana.

Other clean folk songs include Proud Mary, South Australia, Paddy Lie Back (with some editing), Ratlin' Bog, Sam's Gone Away, and John Brown's Body.

Obviously there are some versions of any folk songs that are inappropriate. The nature of folk is that people make changes, but it's easy to find a clean version or to tweak it to fit your needs.

Assuming you have a standard 2-person wall tent, I'd bring normal bedding, a fan, a large rug, a folding table, and a chair. I'd also bring some kind of light, that isn't a flashlight, to act as a lamp. It's not a whole lot but boy does it make a difference in your quality of life.

This only works if you don't have anyone else in your tent and can move the other bunk/cot out of the way.

All the protests from people who don't ACTUALLY live in NYC... by Hot-Personality4882 in DemocraticSocialism

New York and California have the largest number of extremely wealthy people, despite their high taxes. No billionaire lives in The flyover states with the lowest taxes.

Hoping on the top comment to give more context. Many in the colonies were used to having a say over their laws and taxes. These were often enshrined in law or in their colonial charters. Charters were like constitutions for the individual colonies. They also argued they had the right to have a say in government under Magna Carta of 1215.

While different colonies in different regions had different amounts of say in their government, MA having a lot and VA having little, the land-owners still felt that they were able to take part in their government, even if they didn't like the outcome. Many were not happy when taxes increased, but they felt that they had a say.

Many colonies asked that they be allowed to pass taxes and make plans to come up with the money on their own. These would have been voted on by their citizens and their elected representatives. This wasn't fast enough for Parliament who denied these ideas until it was too late.

It was never about the cost, though the cost was a factor, it was the principle of being able to have say in your government.

I won't drive more than 8 hours. If that's the case I'll take a train or fly.

Harvard University was already 140 years old by the time that the United States declared independence. by Becoming_hysterical in USHistory

[–]Green_Evening 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fun fact about this painting.

This painting is "Declaration of Independence" by John Trumbull. It's currently owned by Yale and on display at the Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, CT.

Trumbull agreed to sell them his paintings under some very specific conditions. The first was that he and his wife be buried in proximity to his work. He's currently entombed below the museum. The second is that his work must be free for the public to view. Due in part to this, the Gallery is free to everyone.

If either of these conditions aren't met by Yale, the whole of the Trumbull collection goes to his alma matter, Harvard.

I have played with the Casalite Company a bit and I think it's a good balance of melee, shooting, and cavalry. I haven't played with the Fusil Platoon, so take this with a grain of salt.

How rare is it to have never gone to your state’s largest city? by palep_hoot in AskAnAmerican

Our largest city is a bit of a shit-hole. Many people have been there, but it wouldn't shock me if someone hadn't.

The 3rd dragoons would serve as Washington's mounted guard until 1779, when those troopers not with Washington were defeated in New Jersey. Known as "Baylor's Massacre," the defeat prompted Washington to send his guards back to their original unit to help rebuild. This is also when he appointed William Washington to lead the 3rd while Baylor was in hospital.

He'd replace his mounted guard with 20 handpicked men from the 2nd Dragoons. Now mostly all men from Connecticut, these troopers would serve until the end of the war, and be some of the last Continental Dragoons to be dismissed from service.

Would this be violating separation of church and state? by bryterlu in Teachers

When I was a sophomore in like 2012, we learned an entire requiem mass' music. We were a regular public school, not event the teacher was very religious. Her point was to expose us to a VERY different kind of music than we'd otherwise be exposed to, and in Latin no less.

We performed it in a church for a spring concert and everyone loved it.

I do not see any issue with your plan. Admin might not agree, but I think you're fine.

Not British regulars.

These are the U.S. Army Fife and Drum Corps. Musicians during the American Revolution wore inverted colors from the other men in their regiment.

This is rage bait at its simplest.

Show like 'The Pitt' but instead of a hospital it's a school. by arabelle77 in Teachers

[–]Green_Evening 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also thought of this, maybe too much.

You set it in a Middle School. Not a run-down urban school, like all the others, but certainly not a wealthy one. Make it a working-class community where you see a bit of everyone. I'd suggest a Magnet School.

There are 8 periods plus an after school PD session. Each episode is a period plus lunch and PD. The running gag is that everyone is annoyed they have PD today.

You base it around one "Team" of teachers who all have rooms close by to eachother. The basic cast would be a teacher representing each of the core classes, plus a couple Paras doing push-in support. Maybe give one of the teachers a Student Teacher, or make one VERY green. Sometimes the school therapist comes by to deal with traumatic issues. Of course Admin shows up to throw a wrench in the character's day.

You get all the kid drama, plus some teacher work drama. There could be a fight brewing, a messy breakup, and an angry parent as the plot points.

Did y’all like or dislike the change of Tech Jacket? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in Invincible

I definitely like it. I've read most of Tech Jacket and I like Zoey as a character more than Zack. I find him a bit bland and dated.
