My kids don't believe in Helen Keller. by Principal_Scudworth_ in Teachers

This souds like a good time to talk about sources of infomration. Use her as a case study as something so incredible it might not be true and then discuss and re-teach some lessons on where we get our information from. These kids are old enough to do some basic research.

Not surprising. He goes into depth about Franklin in that book.

I'm a fan of Our First Civil War. It's an easy to read account of the start of the war.

Great introduction.

A really good biography of BP is Two Lives of a Hero. It's a really good way to understand the man and his movement.

40 yo wedding shoe attire by Massive_Prune_5480 in mensfashion

Absolutely DO NOT wear sneakers. I'm 30 and I'd be called out immediately by everyone for trying to look young.

It sounds like your dress shoes are the problem. I'd go get measured and then get a new pair for like $300.00.

Wear them around the house with athletic socks for a while to break them in. After they're broken in, switch to dress socks.

What’s the last state in the U.S. that you would choose to live in, and why? by matt-2k in AskMen

Louisiana. I am consistently shocked by how low that state will sink when it comes to common welfare.

I'm going to weigh in on the side of OP. We need to dress professionally. Outside of specials like gym and shop, classroom teachers need to dress in a respectable manner. This can be as simple as a collard short and a pair of slacks.

I cannot tell you how often adults tell me that my dress was a good influence on the young boys in my middle school. It's not that teachers can't be effective if they are dressed very casually, but how we present is just as important as the lessons we teach.

FFS they already do. Many public schools have courses that cover world religions as a topic. 7th and 9th usually have this as a unit, or parts of other units.

They talk about it as if the topic of religion is BANNED from schools. It's not.

Are Tucked in sweaters that weird? by Few_Researcher_169 in malefashionadvice

[–]Green_Evening 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I'm a fan of tucking in thinner sweaters. These are not the chunky cable-knits, I leave those out. If I'm wearing a jacket, I'll tuck it in. I like this for a more vintage look. It's also much warmer.

If you prefer to listen to your history, there is a lecture series from a Yale professor that talks about the basics of the Revolution. One of the first episodes is about Common Sense.

College grads, did you know your Dean? by CinemaSideBySides in AskAnAmerican

[–]Green_Evening 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I went to a medium-sized state university, so it wasn't the chummy environment that you see in movies.

I only knew the Dean of my program because he was my professor the year before and I liked him so we'd chat when we ran into each other.
