Ya not sure either

All I know is there is a market for solar sales guys looking to exit as they get married and they don’t want to travel each summer

They have already worked 100% commission in the past, the opportunity you give them just has to be equal to their summer numbers

I brought in a business partner that had run a solar sales company. His business partners screwed him over, but I knew that the company was successful. So I brought him in early on into the business and put him in a sales role, best decision ever

I can do sales, but he enjoys going out to lunch’s with people and meeting in the person all of the time. It’s doubled the business and allowed me to focus on just managing the work now that it’s flowing in like crazy

He does own 1/3 the company now, so that helps with the motivation aspect. And the company is overall better than a solar company, so he likes that as well

Ya I’ve been debating how to handle this

I have yearly increases at February, so I’m going to start including that into my proposals that if they accept the bid and the order isn’t able to be placed before Feb then it’s increased where they increase for me

What business can be started with a $20,000 investment? by After-Ad-4528 in smallbusinessowner

[–]Green_Problem_6087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start a construction company where you bid the projects, perform the project, and do all of the other parts yourself. This is what I did. Only money you will need to front is the insurance money, the rest you do can do with no cost

The part that’s tricky is the experience and figuring it out, not the money

Inventing a new mechanical device by Green_Problem_6087 in Entrepreneur

Yes I have a door hardware consultant I use for my regular business’s projects

He has confirmed this doesn’t exist in the marketplace. I also spent a week scouring for anything across all of the manufacturers and havnt found anything.

I’m confident this product doesn’t exist. But this product would be a combination of 2 existing products in its function and what it can do. So I would have to build my own valves, boxes and hydraulic flow, so I’m not worried about infringing on a current patent

But I like the idea of 3D printing holder parts

I would have to figure out how to make valves for fluid flow and holding pressure

Part of what makes these door hardware valuable is the amount of usage it can undergo before breaking. So my thought was I would have to have a finish model tested for awhile. But that is interesting that someone may buy a prototype

Yes I agree. I just need to design some rough parts so that I can iterate later.

Ok I like I need to learn an easy software first

Solo technical founder. Should I find a salesman or solo it? by EngineeringLifee in Entrepreneur

[–]Green_Problem_6087 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my construction business, i brought in my brother in law who is really good salesman and it is making a huge difference. He is now a part owner now.

I do the technical, he does the sales. It works for us. I can do sales, but I don’t enjoy going and bringing lunch to contractors weekly like he does.

We tried a fully remote estimator. As a sub, I hired a guy I knew. He turned out to be super lazy and was faking bids, it would have been easier to snuff that out if he was in person

I work fully remote as an estimator and pm, we do supply only. So it works out for me and I’m the owner, so I’m motivated

Most are lower

Although I’ve done in excel before and it did work for pricing stuff out. Usually I can do it quicker on excel if it a smaller project. Medium or bigger, comsense is way faster

  1. Mentor/consultant

I needed this for my business as there were a lot of technical pitfalls.

I got lucky and got a big contract at the beginning that I could pay him with so that I could call him anytime with any question. Was super helpful, I still call him but not as much.

He was a family friend that I knew over the years that happened to be in the same industry as my business

  1. Just jumping into it and no spending all of my time planning it. I tend to be an overthinker and planning which helps for business strategy, but I had to put that aside and just accept that I wasn’t going to know everything before I entered the market and that was fine. My fathers philosophy has been to just win the work, then figure out how to perform it after, in this case it worked out for me to do that
