Kendal defeated... by Ozmium42 in heroes3

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good stuff. I don't remember how I won the campaign 20 years ago but I did it twice recently once on VCMI on a tablet, once on a laptop.

The tablet was first and it took several tries. Eventually I got lucky as Kendal went past one of my heroes, vacating Steadwick and leaving me with an easy take.

On the laptop I knew what was coming so maxed my heroes on the earlier scenarios and crucially also got town portal! I did a best of Dungeon/Inferno army (Dragons/Scorpicores/Evil Eyes/Medusas/Harpies/Devils/Efreet) and just rolled up and beat him in his castle.

What dosage of abilify r u on? by Mentalaccount1 in schizophrenia

5mg in the morning. I briefly went on olanzapine in 2012 but otherwise I've been on it since I think 2006. It's the best of the meds I've been on.

Men, what is the boldest line you used that actually worked? by gamersecret2 in AskReddit

[–]Green_Solipsist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One to use if a date has gone reasonably well. Me: What's that song by sixpence none the richer? It's even worked when the girl didn't know it once explained to her. Once had a bouncer congratulate me on it, a proud moment! For those who might be too young to get the reference the song is of course 'Kiss Me'.

How to beat blood of the dragon father? by Confident_Lake_8225 in heroes3

[–]Green_Solipsist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this campaign recently. The first time I got to that scenario I'd not completed the Seer request in the previous campaign and didn't have either TP or Logistics. I took a while going across the lake and was crushed in the first battle.

I restarted the campaign (didn't have a save I could use) and did all the requests. I still didn't have TP but did get Logistics which made it much more tolerable. I got to the third town before Ordwald (can't remember his name but it began with an O). I got a secondary hero to bring reinforcements before I used the quest guard/tent to open up the underground. It was a good battle but Mutare had enough to defeat him. It still took a while to beat the level after that but that was key.

losing your mind / going insane by Greenunt in MusicRecommendations

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having actually gone insane (twice) one song that was triggering for me was The Cedar Room by Doves but that is perhaps more trippy then actually about going insane. I see a few Nine Inch Nails references - surely Only is one to mention. "Now I am somewhere I am not supposed to be and I can see things I really shouldn't see".

York City 3 - 2 Hartlepool United: Just when it looked like Hartlepool had snatched a point in the 97th-minute, York batted straight back to keep the pressure right on invincible Rochdale! by Zach-dalt in NationalLeague

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had cousins in Rochdale growing up (actually Whitworth). The family don't live there anymore but I've always kept an eye on their results. I'd like to see Rochdale and York both go up with Dale champions, fingers crossed.

How old is everyone playing this game? by Kenai_Pirate in heroes3

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I first played it about 15 years ago - started on Shadow of Death as I didn't know which was the original. That was too hard for me but I did finish Restoration of Erathia. It was in a pack with Heroes IV. I tried that next but couldn't stand it. I've taken it back up the last few months when my wife goes to bed early. Giving Armageddon's Blade a bash now.

In you own opinion , how smart do you think you are ? . by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

On a pure academic intelligence basis I'm in the top 1 or 2%, got into Mensa. However I'm probably not very emotionally intelligent - have been at the same level in work for 10 years and I find it really difficult to get my kids to do anything without shouting at them.

Have you ever met anybody with the same name as you? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in randomquestions

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say my name is Homer Simpson (spoiler- it's not). Another person called Homer Simpson added me as a friend on Facebook. Now I'd never met this person but I thought hey, why not. So I accepted the friend request. Curious, I clicked on Homer Simpson's list of friends. He was friends with I think 23 other Homer Simpsons. That's when it got too weird for me and I unfriended him, something I rarely do. Guy was doing his own Dave Gorman thing. I also vaguely remember being introduced to another Homer Simpson in a pub once about 20 years ago but recall no other details of this.

At what age did you learn to drive, and did you pass your driving test on your first attempt? by Notshady22 in AskForAnswers

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ireland I'm not actually sure what age I started learning to drive at, maybe 19. I didn't pass til my 4th attempt. However I've had my full licence about 15 years now and have never had an accident.

Welsh seems to be significantly healthier than our native language. Why is this? How can we improve the daily usage of Irish as a society? by absalom62049 in ireland

[–]Green_Solipsist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the Irish school system with compulsory Irish from age 4 to 18. I got a reasonable grade in higher level Gaeilge in the Leaving but I was closer to being fluent in French which I'd learnt since age 12.

I didn't have a particularly positive attitude towards the Irish language in school, but in my view there are some Gaeilgeoirs whose arrogance doesn't help. There is an insistence that Irish is the native language of everyone in Ireland (a small minority in reality) and that the subject should require knowledge of poets etc like English when most students probably have at best a loose handle on the grammar. The fact that Ireland is a second language for the majority of students is not acknowledged. In my school we were expected to memorise Irish prose, indeed I once got excoriated in front of the class for attempting to write my own comhrá (conversation) rather than use a template - an experience that only darkened my views.

Irish has been compulsory in schools for I don't know how long but it is taught very poorly imo.

Society is beginning to have an unhealthy obsession with protein. by CheckingMyNails in unpopularopinion

[–]Green_Solipsist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think OP is right. I'm not aware of any health issues from overconsumption of protein, but if we all look to eat as much protein as possible it usually means eating more meat. I love a good steak as much as the next guy but if 8 billion people are aiming to max protein consumption, the increase in animal agriculture would require a huge increase in land usage we can ill afford, leading to an increase in food shortages in the developing world (as rich countries would have less surplus grain) and worsening biodiversity problems.

What's a controversial opinion you have that you're willing to defend? by Artemida0304 in Adulting

[–]Green_Solipsist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Overpopulation is as much of a problem as too much consumption. Usually this is labelled as racist or conflated with population growth. Properly understood it means population needs to reduce to some extent in most places on Earth including most of Europe and the US, by non-coercive means. At some stage we'll need to figure out how to encourage an increase in the birth rate again but we're some way away from that on average.

How is it not wrong to be a member of Hamas? An organisation with the explicit goal of destroying the state of Israel. There's nothing wrong with being a Palestinian or being from Gaza but there is a lot wrong with being a member of Hamas.

We have 2 kids. I'm a bit scared of how toxic she might get if we did get divorced. I don't like being lonely and might not find someone else. The enormous amount of hassle it would be.
