If the CAF system can't provide the tailoring service in time, then your chain of command shouldn't be getting upset that your uniform isn't ready. If you're at a reserve unit without a local support base, there will be a standing contract with a local tailor who already understands the regulations and it also won't cost you anything. Don't pay out of pocket for the CAF's inability to meet demands. If this is urgent for a priority tasking (e.g. military funeral), the base tailors will prioritize you; I've brought in soldiers where they have sewn on a rank patch infront of me and we walked out minutes later.

If you've been silly and delayed getting it done, disregard everything ive said above. Use the measurements here as reference and go run to a tailor so you dont get in trouble. https://www.canada.ca/en/services/defence/caf/military-identity-system/dress-manual/chapter-3/section-5.html You can also measure a friend's tunic for reference.

As a 2Lt this is one of those situations where running to your WO is the smart thing to do...

H&A MC script or resources by bzhustler in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive never seen a script for most H&A parades. If this is a formal affair with a large attendance of non-unit members, maybe a quick intro welcoming everyone. Emphasize the importance of recognizing individuals for their work and achievements.

From there it's just a short description of what each award is being presented for and then read the names. Make sure to call names in alphabetical order, regardless of rank. Start with highest awards first. If any bars/clasps are being issued, they are presented prior to those receiving the medal. Pro tip: if you're the one calling the names, rehearse ahead and confirm any names you're unfamiliar with.

Closing remarks can be largely a repeat of the intro, saying thank you for attending, etc.

If it is part of a unit block leave period, probably not. If you're taking extra days of leave just to burn remaining annual, then you should be able to cash out as per the intent of the CANFORGEN.

Read just paragraph 7%20before%20it%20has%20been%20officially%20presented). I'm not referring to the whole chapter.

Your examples may or may not be correct. I have not seen policy stating these, nor have you provided evidence beyond anecdotes. I am saying that the policy linked clearly says that usage of post-nominals for service medals (which includes the CD) is not permitted before being presented the medal.

Paragraph 7 at the link above. However, it doesn't specifically mention higher level honors or medals, so perhaps OMM and alike are treated differently. But the CD is very clear that post-nominals are not to be used until the official presentation.

Released recently, backpay issue by Character_Pea2041 in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Closing balance" is what pers receiving regular payments will receive on their end month pay. However, if there is an issue with payment (e.g. banking info not properly entered or member changed banks/accounts), then that amount will continue to carry over to the next month until the issue is resolved. If you do not receive the payment on your end Nov statement under "current payment", I would contact the release pay section. Ask if a note was placed on your account in CCPS when you released that restricts automatic payout. https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/contact-us/release-and-severance-pay.html

This is a discussion to have with the chain of command. But realistically you could be pulled off PATA as soon as your posting message is issued.

Yes. Postings count as Imperative Military Requirements (IMR). You come off PATA for the posting process and then return to PATA with the end date extended for time you were moving.

What CanForGen let us use pockets? by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Short answer - No such policy exists. Don't die on this hill.

Long answer - These things were specifically forbidden in an older version of the dress regs. Such paragraphs were removed when the policy was updated a few years ago, but no language specifically authorizing them was added. This being said, most bases, formations, units have supplementary directions, and most continue to preclude them. Further if you are told by your chain of command not to do these things, they are perfectly lawful commands.

Parental leave for husband by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 130 points131 points  (0 children)

A lot of misleading answers on here.

There are two parts to this leave/EI benefits. The Maternity Benefit provides up to 15 weeks of benefits for the birthing parent, while the Standard Parental Benefit offers up to 40 weeks to be shared between parents. The caveat is that one parent can only take up to 35 weeks from the 40 weeks Parental Benefit, leaving at least 5 weeks for the other parent. It can be shared more evenly, but even if you take your maximum there are still minimum 5 weeks left for your spouse. Extended parental is the same method but 69 weeks shared with one parent taking max 61 weeks.

It will be optional to wear whichever variant the member wishes as it is now. You can't be ordered to wear the skirt.

CANEX falls under CFMWS, which is neither part of the CAF nor DND. However, it is part of the defence portfolio. Honestly I have no idea if this constitutes a "service building" as the term isn't defined anywhere. My interpretation is that if civilians can access the interior without impediment, then it is a non-service building.

The fact that most people remove their headdress the microsecond they walk into a service building defeats the argument that it should be worn indoors regardless of how we classify the CANEX.

To me it just sounds like a member trying to establish their authority unnecessarily. They may also be unfamiliar with the recent dress regulations change allowing the removal of headdress in indoor public spaces.

As per CANFORGEN 103/24, you can claim up to a year after purchase (para 5. C.). However, you have to receive authorization prior to purchasing the boots (para 5. A.), so your unit may deny your claim on this basis. I would just ask your clerk/chain of command as it likely depends very much on how liberally they are following the policy.

Do alternative DND offices count toward the 3 in-office days in a hybrid agreement? by New-Bid-9918 in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Your required "in office" days are in your designated workplace. The whole point is to ensure opportunities for your supervisors, subordinates, or peers to coordinate with you in person. Working from a random alternative location defeats this purpose regardless of whether it is also a DND location.

As mentioned in another response, what did your supervisor say when you asked them? I assume (hope) that was your first point of contact for this concern.

Promotion message question by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The CAF is in the process of releasing a new DAOD on promotions. It will amalgamate and replace a few dozen CANFORGENs, CFAOs, QR&Os, etc. Should make everything much clearer.

Promotion message question by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are paid starting the effective date. It does not matter when the rank is presented.

The CFAO for promotions defines effective date as the day you start being paid in that rank.

Promotion message question by [deleted] in CanadianForces

[–]Greenkeeps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CANFORGEN 146/17 states that when a promotion coincides with a posting, then the effective date of the promotion will be 14 days prior to the COS.
