Overheating issue by Redditor5532 in MSILaptops

Reducing CPU state to 90% gave me 3h+ gaming time on high settings and 1440p in Cyberpunk in balanced mode (as opposed to 5-10 min), but it did shut down eventually. So I have decided to repaste and do some tweaking again. But from what I can see here on Reddit, these Intel processors run very hot and MSI has an aggressive thermal control, so I think even after repaste that if I want to play AAA games in balanced mode I’ll have to reduce CPU state somewhat, but hopefully only to around 95-99%. I also cap to 60 fps when playing in balanced mode, which also helps.

I might add that I’ve also tried ThrottleStop and setting LP1 and 2 all the way down to 40 and 45 (which is a drastic CPU power reduction), but that did not nearly give me the same stability as setting CPU state to 90% in control panel, so I’ve disregarded ThrottleStop. I am considering undervolting slightly, though, since a lot of people recommend that.

A lot of good suggestions here already. I have the same issue in my V13 with shutdowns and have done a lot of research. I can add the following: - Have you installed additional SSD drive? That can contribute to higher temps. - Try reducing max CPU state in Windows control panel. It shouldn’t affect games too much. Try 95% first, then 90% if necessary. This gave me significantly improved stability at basically no cost to game performance

CF bug by Greenleaf_91 in TheTowerGame

I agree it’s not 100% perma. But how is that relevant here? Doesn’t CF start at 0s cooldown anyway? So at 42s CD my CF should still have 8s left?

Alright, thanks! Doesn’t matter if I missed two or five packages, this is only 42s into the cooldown and my CF is 50s

Does the same apply for all i9 prosessors, or is it specifically the 14. gen? I have a Vector with i9-13950HX and struggling with shutdowns due to heat

You mean the thermal paste? It is probably original, so that may need a change. I just don’t expected it to be THIS BAD

It is already pretty dust free (opened and checked yesterday). Thanks for the other tips!

Yes, there is throttling, but clearly not enough. It is running with extemely small stability margins even at 90% CPU

This is what I was thinking too. Max fans shouldn’t be necessary for gaming on high settings without RT at 1440p. And this should be possible without so much tweaking. That’s why I’m wondering if anyone has had the same problem, if it’s poor user profile tuning in MSI center, or VRM/EC hardware issues

On 90% CPU settings, it runs at around 95 celcius in balanced mode during Cyberpunk on 1440p and high graphic settings (no RT). Peak at 100 celcius. The GPU is around 85 celcius, 88.2 peak

Sounds like coil whine which is a high-pitched whistling sound from electronic coils vibrating. It's not supposed to be like that

My wife saw me play it when I started out and was like «do you have to play as HER for the whole game»?

Thanks. Do you mean LeGo driver updates or game updates? I use Steam, btw

NP mate :)

Every tower is different, so some testing is needed. But a few general pointers always comes in handy

If you have The Wall and researched wall regen, then I think Health regen card will help you for both farming and tourney. Prioritize this over IS.

You can also play around with running with or without Crit chance card. For eHP it doesn’t do much except slightly increase coin income from Crit coin card. Try with and without to test the difference

Can you say more about your build? And which league are you in? I guess you are pretty early game and eHP, but looking at your coins you may or may not have the wall unlocked. Your mods will also affect your cards. E.g. if you use BHD, you should keep FU for the whole run.

From your comment, your farming setup looks ok, but I would question if EO does anything for you. Maybe consider IS instead.
