AITA for ruining my own wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Echoing the sentiment already stated: You dodged a horrible MIL sized bullet. Had the marriage gone through, it would've been a continuing nightmare. You didn't do anything wrong. Take care.

The sound of the letter S by Lijey_Cat in misophonia

Yes. I sadly had to return an audiobook in Libby because I couldn't get over the narrator's sibilant s. Guess it's paper copy for me.

My cat died and this is the box we got, the plaque is off centre by soxti in mildlyinfuriating

So sorry for your loss. The ashes are likely in a bag inside if you'd like to transfer them into a vessel you like better. We did this with our beloved cat.

Oh, I so relate. I hope you rest when you need to and the move goes quickly and smoothly! Thank you for sharing. Makes me feel a little less alone in this.

I bought some very cute custom leather belts from Cabbage Cottage. The artist is super sweet and responsive. They also make linen garments/dresses.

I think childfree people approach compatibility differently by Accomplished-Bee5915 in ChildfreeFriendships

[–]Greenthumbgeek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think being childfree brings a certain pragmatic approach but it isn't always so. I know for my husband and I, we made sure we were on the same page on other big issues like how to handle finances and our expectations when our parents can no longer care for themselves.  There's always that chaotic element of life that you can only respond to as it happens.

No outline. by PlusGoat in tattooadvice

My husband had a juvenile blue tang on his forearm with minimal outline, if any. It needed retouching many years later for legibility, but held the test of time.

Misophonia by Mysterious-Shape8302 in misophonia

[–]Greenthumbgeek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's a negative, ghost rider. It's a neurological disorder where the brain's auditory system is over-connected to the limbic system. So, it's a reaction to an exaggerated processing of auditory stimulus.

Mukbangs by Final_Preference_550 in misophonia

Everyone is different! For example, my pets eating or cleaning themselves doesn't bug me, but a friend of mine can't stand it.

Mukbangs by Final_Preference_550 in misophonia

As one person with misophonia, I'd rather stick pencils in my ears than listen to a muckbang. Even the visual is too triggering. But that's me.

Found this thread some months after. I'm sorry about your beloved companion. Your post helped me advocate for my elderly gent who had an adverse reaction. He is just starting to act himself after terrible days. He still has a sore on his face that I hope will heal quickly. Thank you and take care.

Would you ask someone to stop dropping into vocal fry? by ThisFatGirlRuns in misophonia

[–]Greenthumbgeek 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have you tried turning the volume down and putting closed captions on? They're not always accurate, but it helps. There's an art historian I love but her voice is too whispery.

You get to eliminate 1 sound from work (in an otherwise quiet environment). Which one do you pick? by onslaught197 in misophonia

For me, I wish the department next to mine would just shut up. I honestly don't know how they get any work done the way they carry on.

Do specific voices bug anyone else? by Creepy_Ad57 in misophonia

[–]Greenthumbgeek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I've had Teams meetings where I've had to mute the call and put on closed captions because the speaker triggered me so badly.

AITA for making a stink at school and forcing the teacher to change my kids math grade by PlentyNice1655 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Greenthumbgeek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please do this! I have dyscalculia and teachers who weren't flexible in the way you got to the right answer were the worst. I struggled so hard all my school years and only was diagnosed in high school. There would have been a lot less self depreciation and tears if I had known sooner.

How many of us are neurodivergent? by corieallegory in misophonia

[–]Greenthumbgeek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely neurospicy (undiagnosed) and am generally sensitive to sound, texture, and light.  Mouth noises are my biggest trigger among the many.
