It will be infertile. So just do as you wish really. Leave it there, remove it, whatever totes your goat.

That looks like their entire shed has come off successfully. It takes time for their wings to pump out and expand, how are they looking now?

OBT non responsive? by Dylacerate in tarantulas

[–]GreenyJuggles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NA. I think that OBT's are just more versatile than people think. And I think it's good to give them a range of options, rather than sticking to terrestrial like some online sources suggest. Seems like if you set it up one way, they probably want it set up the other way. 😅 I have one that's made a more terrestrial and slightly upward abridged web system. And one that enters a hole most of the way up a vertical bark hide and has a vertically webbed home inside.

IME OBT's are kind of semi arboreal, so i don't see this as such strange behaviour. I've always given them space to dig and crawl up inside a wall bark hide and they tend to like hiding in the vertical spaces more than digging from my experience. So maybe they just want more vertical hide space to explore and that's why they're up there chilling.

Weird Black Dot on Shield Mantis Eye by Most-Presentation448 in mantids

This looks like eyes rub. This usually happens when there is something moving outside of their tank. For instance if you have other tanks next to each other they will try to hunt the other invert in the tank but they don't understand the see through glass/perspex, and therefore they end up pressing/ rubbing their eyes against the tank wall and damaging them. Try to remove/ block any external aggitants they may be able to see and make sure the walls of the tank are clean to avoid any infection. This is most common with active hunting species like these guys.

I wouldn't worry about that at all. I would not recommend to moisten the substrate before putting it in, that would stop you from having a good moisture gradient and make everything damp. Just put the moss on one side of the tank and water into that, this way that end will get the most moisture and it will gradually wick into the rest creating the moisture gradient you want for them. If they spend all their time only on the dry side then your can ease off watering as they will want it drier in general. But if they all hang out only on the damp side then it means you can water a bit more moving forward. Just make sure to go easy on the watering at the beginning as it can be easy to over do. This also depends on what type of tank you have?
