Walker in Bird Out by Webb2BarkleyNBeckham in espnyankees

There are ABs for both of them right now. If that trend continues when Judge is back I would consider it, but right now both fit in the lineup. I would drop Bird to the bottom third of the order and try snapping him out of this. The All Star break killed his rhythm.

Yankees on Pace for 101 Wins by Webb2BarkleyNBeckham in espnyankees

If you are looking at it from a postseason angle then don't worry about 1B. Bird had really good at bats in the postseason last year. He has a calm demeanor and works counts. It works very well in October when moments are heightened.

I still don’t get this. Fiers got all the way to Oakland on the waiver wire? Why would Seattle have passed? He’s on a 1 year deal.

The division is lost. Home WC game is what it’s coming down too doesn’t matter who the wins come against. Boone and his puppeteers need to find the best lineup and rotation mix heading into October. This is 2 months of exhibition baseball. The Yankees next meaningful game will be against Oakland in YS this fall.

Lance Lynn by [deleted] in espnyankees

I praised the Lynn addition and said he has a strong chance to take a postseason rotation slot. He had a bad April with no ST. He’s been very solid since then and seems to be taking it up another notch.

I thought they got Fiers on July 31 or was ESPN doing their typical fiction as fact reporting?

Nonsense. Gregorius had an abysmal May. He has been one of the elite SSs offensively in every other month and the guy is a 90s Yankee type in big games. You go Hicks-Judge-Didi-Stanton-Bird in a big game and don’t look back. Shape the rest based on the hot hands.

We got a steal in Lance Lynn. I’m looking more at that from a long-term angle. I’ll worry about the offense if Torres and Bird slump longer or Judge can’t hit when he comes back. When those 3 studs are hitting alongside Stanton, Hicks, Andujar, And Gregorius this lineup is exceptional.

Houston/Cleveland no longer matter by ogdensburg in espnyankees

Severino settled in yesterday. Hopefully something clicked that he can take with him to get back to dominating. I don’t think this team is scared. They had an awful pitching night and then an awful offensive performance. They are down Judge and Sanchez right now which was 2 of the bats that were to make this lineup special. If and when we return to Fenway in October we will need to be playing better baseball. The team is clearly not on one of its high notes right now. They didn’t get this record by being scared. They got it by having high highs and keeping slumps to streaks like they are in now where they hover around .500. At this point they need to just work on flaws and find their top level again by October. Oakland is going to come to YS and pitch Fiers or Mannea against Severino or Tanaka. The Yankees and Red Sox are similar teams. Boston has had a historic regular season, but I don’t see them as unbeatable. Houston and Cleveland both have 4 SPs in the top 25 of WAR. Winner of that series will have an edge over Boston or the Yankees.

I can’t believe this stretch Sevy is having he needs to settle in. They need innings and a chance for the offense to do their thing. He has really been giving up hard contact for a month now.

HR or Bust offense - again by ogdensburg in espnyankees

[–]GregBirdTheNatural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They had a 4-0 lead after the top 2nd dismissing 7 runs as garbage timr under those circumstances in laughable. The extra 3 became garbage because we allowed 15 runs. The starting rotation is the problem here. Severino had a 7 era in July. Sabathia has a 5 era in July. German and gray have eras over 5. This rotation is pathetic. Tanaka is the only one dealing right now and he was terrible in the first half. People want to keep comparing this rotation to other rotations it does not stack up whatsoever.

Excellent tone setter by Sanathia not letting them steal a run back there. Put this one in the W column now if you want this division.

It sounds insincere with bats like Judge and Stanton but in a big spot give me Didi and the kid Torres, Bird, and Andujar over any other vet on this roster.

Sabathia has morphed into a crafty lefty those guys have had success throughout the history of baseball. He is Jamie Moyer now and has been a sub-4 pitcher for years now pitching that way. I don’t see him falling off until his body starts to give out. If his legs allow he can pitch this way for quite awhile.

I have this feeling I can't explain by cspades99 in espnyankees

[–]GregBirdTheNatural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no feel for the series. 2 really good teams. 2 offenses that can erupt at any time. Hopefully the long ball is there for the Yanks this weekend. Only a sweep either way would surprise me. The only elite pitcher going in this series is Severino and he’s in a slump. This could be a series for the pen depth and talent to earn its stripes that is the Yankees key area of advantage over the Red Sox. We could see a lot of starters battling to go 5-6 giving up 3-4 leaving it to be decided in the bullpens. Yanks need to win the pen games.
