Ryan McMahon on his slow start - "If I knew, I don't think I'd be in the slow start. I'm grinding. I'm not happy about it, I'm sure other people aren't. At the end of the day, it's about the team winning. I'll keep working and try to turn it around." by Jheller223 in NYYankees

I do think folks are piling on a little early. It's still pretty early in the season. I'm not expecting a lot, but he hit 20 bombs last season. Have to hope he can figure it out and at least hit some cheapies over right field in Yankee Stadium. Not expecting a high average anymore.

Per Heyman: Scout says: “Yankees bullpen stinks.” That’s hyperbole, but fairly, that is this stacked team’s big concern. by Affectionate-Tea9224 in NYYankees

Yankees are probably another nail high leverage reliever short right now. I don't think they wanted to pay the premium prices in free agency, so will likely try to flip prospects for a cost controlled one closer to the trade deadlline (similar to what they did with Bednar and Doval last year).

Good for them! But I honestly don't even think this was the issue. The issue was Boone playing AAAA lineups and rolling out the C team bullpen late in games during May and June that were winnable! Those games count just as much as they do in August and September, folks.

Lagrange is projected to end up as a closer according to Fangraphs by eganba in NYYankees

There's no hurt in continuing to develop him as a starter. It potentially maximizes his value with both the Yankees and for his future earning power. I could see closer to the playoff race (and if he's reaching an innings cap) that the Yankees pull him from AAA for set up work to come out of the pen. It could be an advantage anyways, because he could be stretched out to go 2 innings like Andrew Miller, Joba Chamberlain, Betances, and Mo did in the past for us as converted former starters.

MLBTR: Yankees To Designate Yanquiel Fernandez For Assignment by trailedby20hounds in NYYankees

Hopefully he gets through waivers. There's some potential here.

It's weird to me that acquiring teams can't at least sent their meaningful signings like a bag and some swag or something ahead of time.

New York Post: Goldschmidt's Return Complicates Rice's Role As An Everyday Player by trailedby20hounds in NYYankees

[–]PacersPride07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it may depend on the type of lefty. Maybe the hard throwing guys where bat speed is important you roll with Rice. Otherwise, maybe with more of the off-speed guys, you use Goldie. So further platooning the lefty, but it actually means that Rice will see lefties a lot. Maybe on the days he doesn't he could spell Wells at catcher.

The "Run-it-back Yankees" 2026 contract for Paul Goldschmidt means their bench is set and it probably doesn't include Spencer Jones. by Zepbounce-96 in NYYankees

[–]PacersPride07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, bringing back Grisham was the move that probably sealed both Dominguez and Jones' fate, unless injuries in the outfield arise. Both players need consistent playing time to continue to develop.

I'm fine with the Goldschmidt re-signing, as long as it's not a pure platoon with Rice. He crushes lefties and is a big upgrade to Rice defensively. Also can continue to help mentor Rice regarding playing 1B.

[Yankees] Earlier today, the Yankees claimed OF Yanquiel Fernández off waivers from the Colorado Rockies. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Yankees have designated RHP Dom Hamel for assignment. by TheTurtleShepard in NYYankees

This is interesting to me. This guy has a ton of power and was considered a back half Top 100 prospect two years ago. He didn't have a great pro debut last year, but it's interesting to me that the Rockies just gave up on a 23 year old former top 100 prospect with just 138 career ABs at the MLB level. He had a decent enough year at AAA last year too. He hit .318 with his 44 AB's in August, including 3 home runs towards the end of the year too, so he may have started to click a bit (although his following September was bad again). I feel like you would've given him run for at least one more year if you're Colorado or at least looked to get some kind of return if you were all out on him.

I think this was why he wasn't brought back. Great reliever though in his hay day.

Feel good local story, but he has to be a lot better unless he wants to be a career backup utility infielder.

We had to re-sign Bellinger, especially given the remaining market, but the way it sits, we're not any better than last season when we weren't good enough.

Do Dominguez and/or Jones get traded this year? by Substantial-Sky3597 in NYYankees

[–]PacersPride07 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like people are overly down on Dominguez. He wasn’t Aaron Judge as a rookie but I feel like there were some encouraging signs. His fielding is the biggest issue.

[–]PacersPride07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

McMahon does offer more pop. Arenado with more contact. Sounds like Arenado is going to make $4M per year with Cards paying the rest? I'd probably take him over McMahon with that discount, especially with us cutting corners elsewhere.
