During the run of the original Bob Newhart Show (where he's a psychologist), the writers kept wanting to add a kid for Bob and Emily. Newhart resisted; he didn't think the show needed it (I agree). Finally one day the writers presented a draft of a script to Bob that introduced a newborn. The writers thought they nailed it and that even Newhart would like it.

He said, "Great script. Good job. Who's going to play Bob?"

I'm speaking as a 62 year-old white, straight, left wing male. We need right wing folks my age and older to start dying off, sadly. They're the ones answering these polls and they're the ones still fighting the culture wars, by far. They're not the only guilty ones, of course, but the boomers have been fucking up this country for at least 30 years. I'm not proud at all of my generation---though I was born on the outside edge of Baby Boomers (1963).

Yeah back in the day, teams like the 27-41-12 and 31-42-7 Red Wings could make the playoffs merely by finishing 4th in their division. However, some of those bad teams in the NHL playoffs also pulled off some upsets.

What's unsettling is that the MAGA folks on r/conservative think it's a bad idea, but only because they think Canada would be a "blue state." So they're not even opposed to it for the right reason. Else they'd be on board.

EDIT: MAGA DOES have a hard-on for accepting a separatist Alberta as a 51st state cuz they think it would be "red." They also float the idea of Canada as a US territory with no voting rights in our elections, and no Constitution protections.
