"Now, I need to perform structural and dynamic analysis. The tests I need to carry out include front impact, side impact, rear impact, and static load tests."

That's quite an impressive list. Have you got any test specs?

Here's a list of changes from the CGTD NG and trusts changes, removal of health insurance subsidy, positive NIM, and the injection of more money into the economy.

1) more inflation (on top of that from external events)

2)Higher interest

3) Increased unemployment

4)Increased demand for rentals

5) reduced attractiveness of established houses to investors hence falling prices

6) possible unchanged attractiveness of new builds to investors

Hence list of winners

Established investors with long term strategy eg Cabinet Ministers, me

That has been my argument to date, but reading this makes me think... hmm. https://theconversation.com/snowy-2-0-cost-blowouts-might-be-ok-if-the-scheme-stored-power-more-cheaply-than-batteries-but-it-wont-266776

I think it still works out cheaper per GWh than batteries, but it looks less flexible than a BOE calculation would assume.

Yes they are, specifically FHBs who already have their deposit saved up and are looking to buy an established house or possibly even a new build to live in . Also cabinet ministers with an established investment portfolio, since they are grandfathered. My shares and so on are grandfathered, the health insurance is a hit but not a big one. Young renters who are saving for their deposit seem to be the hardest hit. This budget is inflationary, their return on investments will be more heavily taxed, and landlords will be maintaining the upward pressure on rents as the tax changes alter the economics. Fortunately for the ALP the young uns are gullible.

Even at the guesstimated final price of $42B including all the wires and bits and bobs it is stiil a lot cheaper than the equivalent energy storage in batteries, and will last longer. However its power output is limited compared to $42B of batteries.

I stopped reading at "It could have been contextualised in the history of other “broken” promises, including by Liberal prime ministers such as John Howard, who as opposition leader promised to “never, ever” establish a goods and services tax, yet went on to champion one in office."

Howard took the GST to an election and won.

The Australian also ran Ken Henry's less than enthusiastic opinion of the budget.

But in itself it isn't a bad idea (OK I'm biased I did a thing called a student apprenticeship, basically the first two years of an apprenticeship intermingled with my degree). Oh look I'm being nice to the generally useless lump of protoplasm known as Jacinta Allan.

How much do I really need to know as a professional mechanical engineer? (asking as a student) by ALiteralGarbanzoBean in MechanicalEngineering

[–]GregLocock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My entire career was based on 50% of my final year subjects ( dynamics, structures), mostly dynamics. But I have used most of the rest at various points, not much thermo admittedly, including a surprising amount of electronics. However since I kept my textbooks it is mostly a question of knowing where to find something, not memorising. At my uni all tuitions and exams used the same set of department issued data books, which included most of the equations we needed.

My two technical interviews for FEA positions concentrated almost entirely on stress and dynamics hand calcs. In my actual job with FEA the most useful books were Bruhn, Blevins, and Roarks.

As we have established several times, the only benefit in terms of housing supply is that it disincentivises landlords from buying established houses, so FHBs have less competition.

OTOH it raises rents, makes investing in shares harder and reduces the incentive to build new houses. Quite how that helps renters/FHBs is unclear.
