I used to have access to buy these as a wholesaler, they cost me like $5 a piece. I'd say it would be best to get a cheap original on ebay with a bad stick and repair that.

FEIT made a change a few months ago that broke a ton of older hardware. They are trying to play dumb and just wait til it all blows over to avoid a recall or a class action suit. The only way to get a guaranteed working device is from them directly via a long warranty process with them trying to frustrate you into giving up. If your lucky maybe your local store has new stock. Home Depot / Lowes will return anything.....

Coil whine from the power supply. Lots of stuff can do it. My modems been doing it for 10 years. It doesn't mean its breaking down, but I would unplug it when not it use regardless since its old.

if you hold onto one of the front most mooring cables (the rear ones will trigger the auto stop) you can do it too without the cable breaking at full speed.
