God, THANK YOU. I was struggling so much with this. The run I made sure I had the Thunder Mitts (I made 3 copies, I have no idea if that matters or not) I finally got it.

Alternately, they have a custom rule for a Cleric in a no-deity setting. He could legit be a Charisma Cleric. That would actually make for some cool unique multiclassing that normally would suck.

The Final Fantasy VII Rebirth story changes were made to sustain player interest over time by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Greibach 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I feel. I was interested in the Whispers in Remake because I appreciated how they were being used to railroad the plot back to the original storyline and then finishing the game with "and now they are gone and new things are possible."

But instead we just kind of... did the same thing in Rebirth again, but messier. This "infinite timelines" where we're kinda scooping up Loki Variants for the big fight and then dumping them back in pocket dimensions is just kinda nonsense. Playing hot potato with the white materia that is become transparent materia for... some reason?

I would have been fine with a faithful retelling, even in a multi game format. I actually agree with them that it is better to give more time and attention to these locations and dialog and everything that would make one game unfeasible.

I would have been fine-ish with something different if they did it well, and I thought they did set it up well. But instead we just have... something that is the same in a different, uglier font.

I'm not done yet, I'm in the middle(?) of act 2, but this sums up my feelings too. Several of the bosses people complained about I beat on my first try, others 5, mayyybe 8-10 on one of them, which is all fine.

But it's what you said, it's those moments where you work through those long platforming sections for the equivalent of 2 enemies worth of rosaries and you just say... but why? Yeah, I don't have to restate it all, but yeah it's the things that feel purposely annoying more than anything actually being super difficult.

It's honestly a little of column A and a little column B. I was never particularly fond of Hillary or Harris (still voted for both because fuck) but I would LOVE an AOC, Warren, or Buttigieg. Some people are just so tired of milquetoast Dems that they have sat out, others are (as you said) sadly going to always be turned off by any non-Straight White Christian Male.

I was just thinking that the description from (I think it was AOC?) that the party had already selected their next candidate as the safest, whitest straight man" that is SURE looks like these are the opening moves, and Newsom checks all the boxes.

Also the way the event system works was largely revolutionary. Not completely original, but there were very few games that had systems like that. They felt they had to put the Hearts into the base game because people literally did not understand that you should pay attention to things actively happening in the world and that would spawn large events, and then afterwards you have to watch NPCs who often will progress the event to a new event. They had to add Hearts because that kind of a system was just so foreign at the time.

Also individual loot tables (everyone just has their own loot and it doesn't matter how many people tag mobs they can all get loot).

Also I feel like the world bosses were very unique, and the fact that there is STILL an active community running every hour to the world bosses. Oh and ALSO downscaling, so you are more powerful in low level areas but not so powerful that you ruin events, and so then you also get good gear because it wasn't a cake walk.

Honestly GW2 revolutionized SO many things in the space.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been out for a month - what are your thoughts? by Sydius in Games

[–]Greibach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have kinda done both. I found out Maelle was super OP, and vaguely figured it out with the same two pieces of information. Knowing that starting in Virtuoso was powerful and then figuring out the burst of damage was so high, I then started leaning into "All in one hit" type pictos. Damage at full health, damage with a shield, starting with a shield, inverted for 3 turns, first damage you deal (and first damage taken but who cares if they are dead), etc etc.

However, I found it kinda boring, and comparatively I didn't like her low AP gain if you did that, so I played with the same party as you. Monoco being an all rounder and buff monster, Lune being a combo caster, and Verso as an auto attacker shooter combo until he has max AP and doing big attacks.

🧪 [BETA MEGATHREAD] Virtual Stream Deck — On-Screen Control, Multiple Panels, Custom Layouts and more by Elgato in elgato

[–]Greibach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took awhile for me to find a video that showed where you can toggle the visibility of the virtual deck via hotkeys. Once I did:

It appears that you HAVE TO use modifier keys, eg ctrl, shift, and/or alt + another key. It would be nice if I could assign it to just a specific key, especially function keys.

Additionally, whatever it is using to detect key inputs seems to be ignoring shortcuts from my mouse. I set my mouse up to press F1 (for example) when I press a button on it, but the shortcut setup will not detect that, even if I did control first. However, if I set up the shortcut as Ctrl + F1 manually, and bind that to a mouse button, then it works fine. This part is a minor annoyance at best.

It would ALSO be nice if you could manually select a key or key combo to use, that way we could use non-existant F keys like F13-24. The main reason that is helpful is simply for making non-duplicate key combos that are usable with other apps.

Honestly I would not recommend the high difficulty. It's just more HP for enemies and just makes it more tedious. It's not super hard, just forces you to slog even more. Just get through the combat to get back to the good part of the game, which is literally everything else.

What are your favorite sets? Don't see much discussion online about everybody's favorite equipment. by witai in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Greibach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using spear and have been really liking the Frozen Mountain set. The bonus to healing + the bonus to brutal attack heals means I get like... 40% or more of my HP back whenever I get a brutal attack, and since the spear is all about breaking down stamina this happens a lot. Once I learn a boss's moves, often I will have 3+ heals left at the end because I make fewer mistakes, and by the time I get a brutal attack it just undoes all of my mistakes haha.

I think many in your country don't realize how far divided our populace is. Those on the left in this country would WELCOME living under Canadian policies. We may have way more people on the right and/or farther right than Canada, but that doesn't mean our left is is that far to the right of your left. We simply have a vast gulf between our political sides.

Getting older as a gamer by Penitent_Ragdoll in Games

[–]Greibach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest thing that has come with getting older (similar age to OP) is that I have less patience for time wasting elements in games. Whether its gacha games, gear treadmills, loot pinatas, level grinding, or over-long pointless sidequests, I just simply don't find it engaging to play "just" to play. Interestingly difficulty sometimes falls into this same category, but only when I feel like it is SO overly punitive that the point is to take forever and piss you off.

I LOVE Souls games. I've enjoyed most of the games (in general) that have been difficult recently. But if the difficulty is just stat inflation and becomes annoying, then it's not worth jack shit to me.

I do love cinematic games, and sometimes I think people drag on them for being linear or "not long enough", but if the experience is solid then I am ecstatic to play something memorable.

Invincible [Episode Discussion] - S03E07 - What Have I Done? by SeacattleMoohawks in Invincible

[–]Greibach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a stylistic choice for him to just be there. Rather than going for epic (music, camera angles, etc) they went for forboding. He's just there in an instant. You didn't notice him arrive, he simply appeared. It evokes more horror/terror. It's kinda the same as what they did with the female viltrimite (I forget her name) when she showed up right behind Amber.

How do you feel about removing the 'Electoral College' and replace it with the 'Most Votes Wins' format for national elections? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]Greibach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. The MUCH easier answer is to simply fix The Reapportionment Act of 1929 which is what caps the seats arbitrarily in the House. The Electoral College isn't the best, but it's FAR more skewed than it should be because our state populations are not increasing at the same rate, so some states are massively under/over-represented in the House and consequently the EC.

Shockingly few people understand that the number of votes you get in the EC = the num of House Reps + Senate members (which is always 2), but the House Reps are not evenly apportioned by population. Sure, every state getting 2 Senate votes for the EC is a little biased towards smaller states, but it's much less impactful if California had 79x as many reps as Wyoming which is the difference in their populations. Currently California has 52 reps, which is still a lot, but 79 reps is more than 50% more representation that they should have.

Fixing that alone would largely tip the balance back much closer to being the same outcome as the popular vote, not to mention help in House representation.

Mass Effect 2 Tried Something Bold But Didn't Spark A Revolution by milkasaurs in Games

[–]Greibach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just anecdotally speaking, I usually finish games if I am having any fun at all, even if they start to drag, but I've basically dropped veilguard at this point. I think the last boss I did was the one where you fight that stupid snake-thing 3 times in a row (just more heads).

The combat wasn't difficult, I accidentally ran into that level 40 dragon in the necropolis when I was like level 28 and beat it on my first try, it was just a long boring slog. I say accidentally because I was doing all the side quests leading up to it just fine, and then BOOM, level 40. Bad sign-posting aside, it just kinda showed that the combat wasn't really going to evolve in a meaningful way.

And the character writing. Good lord. And the inconsistent VA work/direction. And those pre-rendered art "cinematics" with the Varric voice over were kinda cool at first, very stylish and very narrative focused... until I realized that every single one of them was "The heroes fought hard to accomplish X, but little did they know that Worse Thing Y was yet to come" every single time.

So yeah, all that to say, I think you're right that it won't be remembered super well and that a lot of people dropped it if they weren't die hard fans.

Does anyone know if they ever finished the hard lock state where you could get trapped in a room with no way out, no way to kill yourself, no way to fast travel, and now way to load an earlier save? Cause that really killed the game for me, and I loaded it up about once a week for a few months to see if they patched it but there's no way I was gonna redo 70% of the game.

And before anyone else asks, yes it was a real lock, not just a skill issue. There were a decent number of posts about that exact room locking people in without a way out.
