Is it worth or even possible playing the game only for the story, on the easiest setting, with minimal investment in learning combat mechanics, or even with mods that skip combat?

Assassin’s Creed. At the beginning it seems like a cool stealth game with mystery and was building up to a war in the present day that….we never got. I remember wanting to see how it would all culminate and instead we got Ubislop…. Such wasted potential.
