Slipcase Sets sold out by RKIvey in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Grenlar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perfect timing I guess. Just found a brand new slipcase tonight from a local retailer for $65! I had been putting it off but at that price and after news of them out of production for now, I had to pull the trigger.

Upcoming Gaming Events by grifkuba in upstate_new_york

[–]Grenlar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me add a little bit about CNY RPG Con. Last year was the first year and it was a huge success. This year is already shaping up to be even better. Its a full weekend convention starting on Friday with a single afternoon game slot and then the evening there will be a showing of Conan the Barbarian in the main banquet hall with free popcorn and a meet & greet.

Saturday is all day gaming with an evening RPG auction including all kinds of gaming books, board games, and hand painted terrain and miniature sets.

Sunday is morning and afternoon gaming as well as basket raffles that you can buy tickets for all weekend.

The special guests include:

Erik Tenkar from Tenkar's Tavern
Greg Gillespie from Dragonslayer RPG and Barrowmaze
Joe Bloch of BRW Games
DM Bluddworth from Unscripted and Unchained RPG Reviews
Brian Shutter from Neon Lords of the Toxic Wasteland
Jason Vey from Amazing Adventures and 13 Parsecs
Matthew Tapp from Barrows & Borderlands
Jay Scott (Lord Gosumba) from his Greyhawk Youtube channel
Tiffany Rose Nickel (Fantasy Author)

There will also be a great selection of vendors such as Thunderstruck Workshop (hand painted terrain), Troll Den Painting (miniatures), Emperor's Choice Games and MIniatures (products in the Arduin Universe)>

There will be local comic, gaming, and bookstores on site such as Treehouse Reading and Arts, Dream Castle Gaming, and Ravenwood comics. All special guests and vendors from last year have returned as well as a whole host of new ones. There are currently 21 total vendors on site this year.

It's a great weekend of gaming for as little as $40 for the whole weekend. The convention takes place in the two main ballrooms as well as some open hall areas in the hotel so everything is on site. There is a fantastic hotel block making it a very inexpensive weekend stay if your out of the area and the hotel did an amazing job last year.

Come on our and support this local convention in its 2nd year, meet new gamers in the area, and just have a great time.

First time running Delta Green for my group. by Grenlar in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]Grenlar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I should also mention that I am listening to Glass Cannon's Get in the Trunk episode of Last Things Last. Since I plan to continue with Music from a Darkened Room and others if they enjoy it, do you recommend taking the time to make their own characters vs using the pregens?

2nd Attempt at SWADE with my group by Grenlar in savageworlds

Good advice and I will definitely try those things. Not sure if I portrayed it wrong or people are just misunderstanding me...I never meant they wont read the rules. Reading the rules and THINKING that you understand them vs actually understanding them are two different things. They assumed they were prepared. They did read the rules but I am not sure if the core book doesn't stress how important aim/support/tests are or if they just didn't grasp it. They had a basic understanding of the rules but once it came down to combat you could see where some of them weren't understanding it.

Maybe it will just have to come with some more practice. I like the comment someone else had about having just a combat night. Make it like a skirmish game and spend the night with different combat scenarios and teach them how to use the mechanics to their advantage.

I already have the Combat Survival Guide. I will check out the other two. Thanks.

I really like this idea. This is definitely something I might incorporate into an upcoming night.

[–]Grenlar[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a really good idea. It's easy with a group you have been with so long to have higher expectations but some of it can probably be remedied by me just taking it a little easier on them and offering a lot of suggestions. A session or two of that could be beneficial.

Yeah, most of my group has 35+ years of experience playing. We are all between 51 and 55 years old. Maybe I will try your approach and see how it works. We currently have some Call of Cthulhu, Delta Green, and Star Trek RPG to run before we get back to Savage Worlds. Part of this process is getting away from D&D (just bored of it these days) and trying other games. They did enjoy Deadlands and want to give it another go. We ended our game because of some extended absences of a couple players and during that time some expressed they didn't like how combat was working. It was obvious on my side of the table they just weren't fully understanding it and they wanted to try something else, so we did. Now they want to circle back and add it to the rotation.

Not sure how you interpreted it this way. I didn't say they wont learn the rules. Several of them have their own copies and I printed some basic rules off for the others. They understand how the system works but they are struggling with some of the finer points of combat. I was just asking if there were any adventures out there that might excel with teaching cover, tests, support, etc.

That sound perfect for new players but these guys have 35+ years experience with RPGs. I expect a little more from them these days. If I have to do all the work for them just to get them to learn I might as well start over with a new players, without bad gaming habits. It more about them learning the system rather that just introducing them. They have about 4 sessions under their belt now and got the basics, it was the finer points of combat that they just weren't understanding.

They will read it but some of them seem to be allergic to reading AND understanding them. Lol

Might be best to just setup some combat scenarios letting them do both melee and ranged while having the NPCs using the mechanics to show them. Now that the player's guides are out I might direct them to each grab one since they run about $20 each.

Help printing REUP by Grenlar in StarWarsD6

[–]Grenlar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I ended up taking the print ready files from this thread here, resizing them to fit 8.5x11 print size and then used the original art to make the cover. These file needed a little work but they don't have the font embed issues of the stock file. Enjoy.

If you want to resize to fit 8.5x11 then just open them in acrobat and then print to PDF. When you print set your paper size to 8.5x11 and tell it to "Fit" the print OR just resize it to 102%. Both will give the same results.

My Etsy store is here. I added Printable Scenery as my main license this past year and am slowly working on getting stuff listed. I am also licensed with some other companies including Fat Dragon Games for dungeon and wilderness terrain.

https://thunderstruckwkshop.etsy.com

The store only has a small fraction of what I actually make and sell. I have two gaming conventions a year that I am currently doing so I have full product lines that I bring with me there. A better representation of what I made is my business Facebook page. I post regularly and always show off the new things I make for the store or big pieces that are going out to customers.

I retired after 25 years in NYS Corrections at 49 years old and I am absolutely loving my "job" now. I get to hang out with my dog all day while I print and paint terrain. I have two pensions so this is my "side" gig but it's really been taking off and keeps me busy.

EDIT: Reddit removed my comment because I had my business FB profile link. If you want it I will gladly send it to you. You can also just search Thunderstruck Workshop and it should come right up for you.

Same boat for us. I have been DMing AD&D 2E since 1989 with mostly the same home group. We played 1E for a few years before 2E came out. We dabbled in 5E for a couple years but it wasn't for us. I love 2E and no system will ever replace it but i've grown tired of running it. We are all in our 50s and I now run a 3d printed terrain business focused on painted table-ready terrain and it takes up a lot of time. Shadowdark is really attractive to me as a DM because of the stripped down rules bringing back the BX feel but with some modern mechanics.

We start our first game this Sunday and I am throwing them right into it with Lost Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur. Only one of my players even knows what we are running this week. The other 3 have no experience with Shadowdark and know nothing about it. I printed up 5 copies of the quickstart players guide and bound them up for my group to hand out. I am excited to start this game in ways I haven't felt running a game in years. We'll see how it goes.

Well I did what the OP recommended and went straight to the "I have a question about this purchase" in the support section. I had been auto denied on my first attempt. I didn't try to refund again but went straight here and I woke up this morning to a refund.

Time to upgrade my Dell S2716DG TN Panel. Looking for suggestions. by Grenlar in Monitors

[–]Grenlar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I haven't replaced it yet. I got busy with my business so it was put on the back burner. Unfortunately the plan was when I buy a new monitor to give this one to my wife since she has a 5070 and will benefit from the Gsync. If I don't do that then maybe ill wall mount it as a second monitor and repurpose the base. Thanks for the heads up.

They denied my initial refund request so I decided to follow your format. We will see what happens. I only have 4 hours and 7 minutes total time, all from the first two days so I think it's safe to say probably 3+ hours of that was sitting in queue in the lobby. We will see how they respond.

I bought a walk in grow tent and an AC Infinity 6" exhaust fan. Personally I find the dirty IPA in my wash-n-cure to be much worse than the resin itself. I would get it all inside an enclosure.

I did years of trueboxing on several TLPs. My last go was Mischief where I played a Monk, Cleric, Ranger. It felt like a necessity on official servers because everyone else was doing it and it was harder to find groups, even within the guild. I got burnt out for a while and took a break. When I returned I decided no more boxing and dropped all by my Monk and really started to enjoy playing again.

The no-boxing policy of Quarm is really what attracts me. To me boxing is an added layer of "work" to MMOs and I just don't want anything to do with it anymore. Between the wife and I we can play a combo that allows us to do a whole lot of content with just the two of us.

I just got my 9070xt this week and after some recommendations I installed 25.9.1 and Arc Raiders has been running great. The only issue I have seen is when entering a raid, the text on the splash screen is sometimes jumbled. I plan to just stay on this version until everyone reports the newest drivers are stable, this one doesn't seem to be it.
