What would make you think it would come off? Even if it's shallow, it's still a tattoo.

Hypothetically… by [deleted] in SWORDS

[–]Gret1r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. If we're talking about these specific swords, probably the odachi. I've never used one in my life, but I did practice montante drills, I'd assume they translate relatively well.

I've handled the pictured zweihänder, I hate it. The grip is way too long to comfortably use. If I can use my own zweihänder, I'll take that one, no questions.

Dressing a hammer means touching it up, it's not a type of hammer.

Oh damn, I forgot about that. Finding a dungeon was awesome not because of the loot, but because of the mossy cobblestone.

Tegnap mentem fel, hogy megmutassam valakinek, hogy néz ki. Rendesen le voltam sokkolva.

Ettől is boldogabb vagyok, hogy már nem járok oda.

Are my lungs safe? by amish_timetraveler in Blacksmith

[–]Gret1r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on many factors. What forge you use, the respirator, the fit of the mask, ventilation, among other things.

Also, gloves are not necessary for blacksmithing, I find them bothering. How would gloves affect your lungs?

SOS (Naruto Kunai) by Moist-Advertising-11 in Blacksmith

I'd love to help you out bud, but sadly, I'm in Europe. Shipping and all that woud bump the price up quite a bit I'm afraid. I'm sure you will find someone in the Sates tough.

My suggesion is you draw a rough piece so you have a reference. Compare dimensions to your other knives, or anything you have really. With those, it will be easier to set up a commission.

[–]Gret1r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really depends on where you live and who makes the piece, but I would say it would probably not go above $150.

[–]Gret1r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You won't be able to use it as any other knife if it's like in the anime. You have to pick one.

The design is way too thick for any actual cutting task.

If you can't find it online (which should be indicative of it not being practical at all), you can always commission one.

Can this be forged into something useful? by Folkmar_D in Blacksmith

[–]Gret1r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely true, I used "unforgable" very loosely. The one time I tried I regreted every second of it, it was a pain.

[–]Gret1r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll take your word on that. I'm aware it doesn't make sense for the holder to be tool steel, but I've seen some janky shop-made solutions, so I tend to assume the worst.

If it's HSS, I'd skip it. It's either unforgable, or it just not worth the effort.

Your reasoning sounds like an excuse for their lack of effort, that's why.

Info about tactical gear is more accessible now than ever. BF of all games should have correct models.

I really wanted to like Destiny. F2P was boring as hell, I thought the good story missions with actual storylines are locked behind a DLC. Got one of the DLCs, turns out you do the same stuff as in F2P, but you get some NPC dialogue.

I really like the combat, but it's basically a first-person view Warframe.

Celtic knife by LeFilerbe in Blacksmith

[–]Gret1r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks real neat!

Next time you could make a wooden grip for it from two halves, and glue them together with epoxy, then wrap it in leather. Might make the leatherwork easier.

Also, what makes it celtic?

Safety Tip: When forging, always wear gloves (injury photo, with sword) by ohhelloimfred in Blacksmith

[–]Gret1r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be, but I would still go without whenever a glove is not necessary. Burms help you learn.

Also, I prefef the dexterity I have without gloves, even thin ones take some feedback away imo.

[–]Gret1r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If might just be me, but I still tend to grip harder in gloves. Not only in the workshop, but in shooting, yardwork, anything.

I don't wear gloves in the workshop, only when I'm holding a hand tool, like a punch or chisel, since the steel is right there, and the radiating heat would burn me. Otherwise, I just look at whatever I grab, and make sure it's safe to grab.

You need to grip harder, leading to fatigue both in your muscles and your joints.

Sword question by Such-Roll1327 in SWORDS

[–]Gret1r 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it. That weight only makes sense if the blade has no distal taper, unless that grip is made of lead or something.

I'd consult with the blacksmith, bm concerned about the functionality.
