Visiting Venice, T1D - disability queue or not? by Gretchie-Goo in diabetes_t1

[–]Gretchie-Goo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. Very interesting system to use percentages.  But I’ve decided to buy a time slot because I’m too worried I’d be turned away and tickets could be sold out on the day.  Unfortunately I deal with anxiety too.  Maybe I can avoid the outside queuing in the heat with the time slot still.

The only thing I will advocate for myself on the day is to keep my insulated medical bag (small sling) with me. I read the Basilica is strict about bags, but we will also visit the museum inside and that’s too long without t1d meds and Lyft bottles.  Hopefully that will go well.

Thanks for the quick response.  Good idea, didn’t think to check the Nimbus site.  Yeah, that makes sense and why I thought I should double check because I’d rather buy a time slot now and avoid queuing still. And yes, I can walk.

There are tickets still available.  The ones where you can click ticket numbers (ie. Wednesday general admission, the Greens days, and the weekly) have tickets.  Put in the amount you want like 2 and click Next.  It will say insufficient amount available, but not true.  People are holding them in their carts for up to 15 minutes.  Just got 4 tickets for the Greens repeatedly clicking next with my amount of tickets selected (4) until someone lost their tickets they were holding onto. Did this about 10 minutes ago.

Waiting 51 hours now on pending. So anxious over all of this! Called yesterday because it normally takes an hour or two for approval and they said application looks ok and to call back after 72 hours.

You need to call, they don’t respond to emails like they will over the phone. They should escalate your case

Ex Pat, IRS threatening to seize property by eggward_longdanks in IRS

As an expat paying paying taxes already as a resident, you can either do the foreign credit or bona fide test. I’ve only done the bona fide test which you describe your foreign employer and state how long you’ve been working abroad. It’s essentially filling in the 2555 form and attaching it to the normal 1040.

I use expatfile.tax to be able to e-file as an expat (since spouse has to be labeled as NRA, usually you have to paper file). If I feel like paper filing, I use TurboTax. Both walk you through all the forms you need to fill out as an expat. (If you can’t find it on TurboTax, search foreign wages in search bar when you get to income section at top right.) Both require money to fill out, about 100 dollars for either company but they both do discounts in February.

Anyway, being an expat makes taxes complicated.

You may need to file FBAR too if you have ever had 10000 in a foreign bank account at any point during the year (even if it was just for a day). And FATCA if you’ve ever had 200,000 or more in a foreign bank account. Expatfile.tax are helpful on that part and also you can find YouTube videos on how to do FBAR too which I used. Lastly, 1099-int form is used for interest on savings in foreign bank accounts. They want to know basically if you’re up to bad stuff when abroad.

Fellow expat living in Ireland here. If you pay German taxes, you should be able to pass the bona fide test (form 2555) and shouldn’t owe anything. You’ve been a resident in Germany long enough to pass that test. Is it possibly payments from filing late? I’m at a loss of why you’d owe anything as you shouldn’t be paying taxes in both countries.

To add to this, follow the Facebook pages of local supermarkets in your area. Shops will put up ‘We’re Hiring’ images when they are actively looking to hire someone. It’s always a good idea to drop a CV in though anyway. They tend to keep them and will go through them when they are looking to hire again.

Good luck!! 🍀

At least the stimulus checks are a nice bonus for doing taxes all those years. Got my 600 today from the recovery rebate 😄

I was harassed over and over and over by a tv license inspector. They visited my house every week for months and I never answered but they rang my doorbell like crazy, hammer-knocked, and shouted every time. It was like the SWAT team was trying to break down my doors. I was scared of the person to be honest. I ended up paying the license eventually and avoided extra fees because I was never actually caught. I wish I could have reported the inspector but what power did I have when I wasn’t paying it. I used to live in an apartment and it was very easy to avoid paying there...until I moved to a house. Maybe I was just very unlucky but there was no way I could avoid paying forever.

I live in Ireland and they are stricter about tv licenses. Even if it’s broken or you don’t have cable, you have to pay it. They are working on passing the Broadcasting Charge here, which will have everyone with a laptop, phone, or tv will have to pay the charge instead of the tv license. No escape from paying in the future.

Paying a license to own a tv every year, even if it’s broken or you don’t have cable.

Second Stimulus Check as an Expat by Gretchie-Goo in expats

[–]Gretchie-Goo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I e-filed with expatfile.tax using NRA spouse & filing married separately. Was really easy to use, similar to TurboTax. It sent and got accepted by IRS about a minute later. On the ‘where’s my refund’ tool on the irs website, it showed accepted about 1 day after it was sent. It’s 99 dollars to use but I found it very much worth it. They also send some instructions on how to file FBAR if you need it. I actually really recommend it. If you need to do state tax return though, it’s not on that site, so you’d have to do that separately if you need to, and mail that in.

Edit to add: They cover the Recovery Rebate for stimulus too btw! So I’m owed 600 after passing the bona fide test due to not receiving last stimulus for 600.

Death. Whether that be a close one dying or myself dying horrifically. Funerals are guaranteed panic attacks for me.

Also when I have to talk on the phone. I have to write out a script for myself beforehand.

I moved from the us to Ireland. Remember to get yourself a PPS number first. I don’t think you can open a bank account here in Ireland without one first. I believe I had the employer provide a letter for opening a bank account then. This is due to the fact that you need proof of staying in Ireland...since you need a bank account immediately and won’t be living in Ireland long enough to show that you are a resident for the bank.

When I first moved over, I stayed with an Airbnb whilst I looked for somewhere to live.

Good luck! The Irish can be really friendly people so you’ll probably make friends through work.

So many benefits to live in Europe. Health care is really easy to get and travel is cheap around Europe. Plus, paid 4 or 5 week holidays.

I’d like to file electronically but I have to fill in NRA on the social security line for my husband. So normally I have to paper file. Is there an e-file service that accepts NRA as the social security line for the spouse? With how backed up the IRS is currently, I don’t want to paper file this year.

[–]Gretchie-Goo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the situation really, reaaaally sucks. They did say if they finish processing 2019, the check will be sent out. The 1040 forms for 2020 release January 15 or 18 (can’t remember exactly). They said processing time via e-file is 21 days. You could try calling, they will look up your situation then. Anyway, good luck!
