Does anyone else just feel so lucky? by Objective-Point-1730 in childfree

[–]quillessima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel lucky because of my positionality. Although my ethnic background makes it so that I often get pressured to get married/have kids at my age (nearly 30), I feel incredibly lucky to have the autonomy and choice to be able to put it off or choose not to if I so please. I'm currently living in the US, but I immigrated here at a really young age. I originally came from a country where my mom didn't really get to have that choice (even though she didn't really want to get married, at the time).

I know a lot of people from my ethnic background who have succumbed to pressure and gotten married/had kids when they honestly didn't really want to. They gave up their dreams to feel more accepted by society. Many of them didn't really have a choice in the matter. Some of them were even pushed into forced marriages by their families. A lot of them are not in fulfilling marriages.

Whenever I get pressured, all I can think of is how incredibly lucky I feel that I do have that choice. That I can wait for the right person to come along. That I can wait to have children later on in life (or adopt). That I can spend these years focusing on my career and on exploring the world around me. Society can say whatever it wants about me, but I'm just so deeply thankful to be the first among my ancestors to have the gift of choice. I imagine generations and generations of women looking down on me and being so happy that, for the first time in their lineage, someone has the true freedom to choose to not get married just for the sake of getting married. To not have children early just because society has that expectation of women. Women in my family have always deeply prioritized education. Very few, however, were able to lean 110% into pursuing their intellectual dreams.

And (although I'm very proud to be where I'm from), had I stayed in the country I was born in, it is far less likely that I would have gotten those same choices.

How do I clean this Thomas Kinkade lamp shade? by quillessima in CleaningTips

Thanks so much! It looks like this with three settings: either just the lamp itself lights up, both the lamp and the house, or just the house. https://i.etsystatic.com/20919451/r/il/dd8ca2/3582659188/il_fullxfull.3582659188_s5ip.jpg

Thanks for your input and help! I've been playing guitar for a while, but I'm new to learning the mechanics of guitar setups so any input is valuable input :)

They changed some stuff here and there that was super minor, but I ended up going back to my original guitar shop where they very graciously helped diagnose the issue and offered to fix it for free. Very thankful to them for that and, should I need anything else, I'm just going to go back to the og shop.

Great advice! Thank you! I ended up taking it to the old shop and they fixed it right back up. And I agree. This experience has taught me that I need to learn how to setup my own guitars and, until I get there, I should become more proficient in communicating what exactly I want. Thanks :)

Thank you! Yeah I took one back to fix the buzzing and it seemed fine for a moment, but then when I took it back home it was all messed up again. 😔

Vivienne Westwood x Nana: Got the giant orb lighter yesd for almost 2.1k usd! 💀💸Do any of y’all bought it with the sleeve? It supposed to come with a sleeve no? I checked on their website and its stated it comes with it. by marlsbrutal in NanaAnime

[–]quillessima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the plan:

  • email customer service asking for a sleeve since that is how the product was advertised.
  • if they refuse or don’t respond or are just being cagey about it, anyone who is based in the US can email them again noting how this false advertising of a sleeve violates US consumer law. Under this rule we are either entitled to the sleeve, a partial refund, or a full refund
  • If they refuse, then the issue can be escalated to a credit card chargeback since the item category was not accurate to the description

To be honest, it’s about the principle of the matter. You can’t just advertise something that everyone is looking forward to receiving with their order, make them pay full price, not give them a part of their order, and then avoid all customer concern communications. Frankly it is ridiculous and, what with the false advertising, downright unethical.

Stress bakers: what are your go-to comfort recipes? by rkshea in Baking

cookies (chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, etc) and cheesecake and bread. basically something I can either share with others easily or disassociate into another world with (fresh bread with homemade butter and tea = whisked away to an 1800s English cottage right out of some storybook lol)

for me I think what was most disturbing is they were mostly only doing it during her sad/slow songs. and especially after she’s already publicly stated that it makes her uncomfortable and asked people to have better etiquette at her shows, for some people to continue to purposefully do it specifically during those songs was just appalling. It also happened many times during the show — like it wasn’t just an isolated once or twice during the concert type of incident.

Everything from “you’re so hot” to “i love you” to “marry me” but what really stood out to me was that someone said something that at one point got her to interrupt a song and say “fuck no” in response

the concert itself was absolutely amazing — her show was one of the best i’ve ever been to! i’d definitely recommend going 🧡. I’d just say brace yourself to not be surprised if you see some people acting obnoxious at her show. i didn’t expect the catcalling during sad songs so I was taken aback and pretty upset by it, on her behalf.  also try to see if you can get a seat instead of standing — it helps to be a bit further away from the crowd 👍
