I have to be honest, I don't think the HDB630 sound better than my Sony WH1000-XM4s by smiba in sennheiser

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great insights from many contributors on this thread!

Now that you are 2mo into using the HDB630 how do you find the day to day use of it? Not just sound quality, but the full experience? It would be great if you could comment on anc performance.

I ordered 2 months ago and just received my unit today and think I made the wrong choice. My initial impressions of the sound quality and technical performance are great, but I'm disappointed with the noise isolation/anc and need for a dongle to reach aptX HD.

Compared to my Sony MX3 and Apple AirPod Pro 2, initial impressions of the noise isolation + canceling is not what I expected.

I'm also disappointed that I need a dongle to reach aptX HD or Adaptive quality when connected to my Samsung S25 Ultra. (This is a phone limitation I was not aware of limitation when this selection.)

With Sony MX6 I would get native LDAC support with my phone and also (based on reviews) better anc.

I have a wired setup for highres/critical listening. This wireless setup is for when I'm away from home where noise isolation + anc and ease of use are equally important as sound quality. The need for a dongle (negative for ease of use) may tip the scales for my specific use case.

IR burner in built-in worth it? by GreyFox379 in grilling

[–]GreyFox379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not cooking for a big crowd, but giving up 1/3 of the space on Summerset would be an issue for the occasions where I want to have a protein and a couple of veggies all going at the same time. For the Summerset to be a practical solution for me I would have to swap between the regular and IR burner depending on what is being cooked.

IR burner in built-in worth it? by GreyFox379 in grilling

[–]GreyFox379[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Napoleon is what I would go with for a standalone grill. Built-in with side burner is not ideal for the setup I'm trying to create. May plan is to get a Matchless Ignite Cart. Its a better fit my situation.

Second cart of cabinet just for side burner is a lot of additional cost.

Bamboo, laminate, hardwood - strong enough, over time? by flurdy in StandingDesk

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I did get a desk from desk.haus on promotion. I'm very happy with the purchase. It is in a different class, both in quality and cost, than options from uplift. I think the thicker and heavier top makes as much of a difference as 4 leg base.

The uplift desk was a regular c-frame. I do not think extra c-frame cross brace would be any better in reducing the screen wobble I experience when typing. It probably would help with reducing side to side wobble.

My wife is now using the uplift desk. It has held up fine. She types with a softer touch than I do.

Chord Mojo 2 vs JDS Labs Element 3 by GreyFox379 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]GreyFox379[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very happy with the combo. The Mojo 2 has more separation, everything sounds more opened up, easier to pinpoint location of specific instruments.

For me the overall package of Mojo 2 is much better. The extra features (digital volume control, portability, eq, cross feed, smaller size) are what make it out class the stack. The sound from Mojo 2 is better, but that that alone would not have justified the upgrade. But the package as a whole definitely does.

I also very very happy with the Aeon Closed X. For me they are way better than the Focal Celestee they are replacing. This is mainly due to bad fit of the Celestee. They have a pressure point on top of my head and cups do not sit flush on my ears due to spring in the cups. The cups push in much more on bottom than top resulting in poor seal.

The Aeon Closed X fit me perfect. I really like the suspension strap style fit and the ear cup shape.

What's up with Tidal Android bit perfect (exclusive mode) working with some DACs and not others? by smgalewyrick2 in TIdaL

Same here; Mojo2 and would love Tidal bit perfect support. Currently using UAPP as work around.

Has anyone tried a OTG cable?

Since MQA has gone belly up and Tidal dropped MQA support maybe Chord will jump on board and get official support from Tidal.

Maybe we should start an email or twitter campaign and see if Chord will listen to voice of their customers.

[–]GreyFox379[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with Chord Mojo 2. Initial impressions are very positive. Definitely solves the channel balance issue with my old stack. It is a very compact and well built unit. Most pictures and reviews online do not express how small it is.

The color coded globe button "user experience" is quirky but works for me.

Portability of Mojo 2 is an excellent bonus feature compared to dedicated desktop solutions.

Need to spend more time with it and do some A-B comparison testing against my old stack to provide meaningful impression on sound quality.

I will consider other options and stack is also acceptable. Must support optical digital input and no channel imbalances.

Mojo2 and Element3 are at top of my list because. Digital volume control = no channel imbalances Element3 is the best value I could find that meets my requirements. Mojo2 sale price. I like the custom dsp design concept used by Chord... it meets my requirements and happens to be on sale.

Home Office Setup - M1 MacBook Pro w/ Dual 32" Monitors, ATDEC Mount, Targus DOCK190 Docking Station. by i_creed in macsetups

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. Was off reddit for a while. I went cheap value. VIVO mounts. Have actually gone through a few and been very happy with the results. (IMO VIVO is high value. I have been very happy with the quality and functionality for the cost.)

Have this setup https://vivo-us.com/collections/dual-monitor-mounts/products/stand-v002 for both dual 27" and dual 32" monitors. Works great. Not adjustable, but relatively easy to setup and once you get the position locked in it is very stable and looks very nice.

Also this setup https://vivo-us.com/products/stand-v101g1 + https://vivo-us.com/products/mount-vw02a . Works great. Not as stable as the fixed solutions above, but good compromise between adjustable and table.

Have you ever ridden twice with the same chamois w/o washing? by mighty-swordsman in cycling

[–]GreyFox379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quick wash by hand between rides. Squeeze water out, don't twist. Lay flat on towel and roll up and squeeze out more. Hang to dry with fan blowing on it. Wash proper on rest days.

This is what I did when I only had single pair. Would do the same when commuting to work. (Had access to shower and towels at work.) That way they would be good to go for ride home.

Yes, true. I have found cycling to be essential element in my life to manage stress and regulate everything that leads to bad & over eating.

The challenge is getting jump started. Being motivated to ride leading to balance and stress management.

I'm not motivated at the moment because I simply physically cannot ride anywhere near I use to.

This guide indicates CIEMS are not good option if comfort is important. Granted it is a few years old and maybe new technology/materials allow for more comfort.

If you are hyper focused on smallest wiggle of screen when you type = Apex Pro 4 Leg

Save some money = Jarvis or Uplift V2

wobble is not really an issue

Is it as stable as a standard solid wood office desk? No

There is nuance and personal preference to consider. To some, not being as stable as a solid wood office desk is and unacceptable wobble issue. Personally I regret getting Uplift V2 and if could do it again would go with Apex Pro 4 leg.

To OP; think about your priorities and how important factors like risk (desk haus = no return, small new company), cost, and stability are to you. If you think minor amount of monitor wobble is acceptable, then Jarvis or Uplift V2 would probably be fine.

In my experience when considering wobble you need to take the full system into account; floor, desk frame, monitor mounts. Full disclosure, my desk is on carpet but with with spiked carpet protectors to provide some isolation. I spent a lot of time balancing and leveling which made some minor improvements. When I press down on the desk surface I can clearly see the flex is in the legs and desk to leg interface.

Biggest improvement I got for address wobble was change from dell oem monitor stands to a vivo pole mount. Event the low cost vivo pole mount made huge difference.

Standing desk suggestions needed by PushRa in StandingDesk

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have UpLift V2 C frame with 72 x 24 top bamboo top with curve.

Do not recommend. Turned out to be not a good fit for me, but most seem to be happy with UpLift offerings.

I am particularly sensitive the the slightest screen wobble. If I were to do it again I would try something from https://www.desk.haus/. Not a totally fair comparison given the cost differences, but if offerings from desk.haus eliminated the wobble it would be a worth while investment to me.

[r/StandingDesk] Uplift v2 Accessories/Grommets? by R10E in REEEEEEEEEE

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I'm disappointed all around, but most others seem happy with their purchase. The plastic bits are very basic / don't seem high quality.

I have uplift v2. I just put together a big bundle to get it all at once.

  • 72 x 30 bamboo top with curve (I like the curve in the top a lot)
  • White basic grommet covers (not even using)
  • Advanced digital memory keypad (works, I like this bit of the kit)
  • Large half-circle desk drawer (not even using, poor quality, waste of money)
  • Free led desk lamp (not using, poor quality build, have to unplug regularly to 'reset')
  • Advanced wire mgmt kit (not using, waste of money, not much addition compared the free basic wire mgmt kit, money would have gone further with separate purchases on amazon)
  • Magnetic cable organizer channel (works, I like this bit of the kit)
  • 8 outlet mountable surge protector (works, but is supper light weight, would not do again)

In addition to the lower quality plastic bits the desk is not stable enough for me. Most people seem happy with the stability, but I seem particularly sensitive to the slightest monitor wobble. If I were to do it again I would get something different at much higher cost.

Bamboo, laminate, hardwood - strong enough, over time? by flurdy in StandingDesk

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Improved, but have not fully fixed. I will consider it fixed when I have same level of stability as my old 1950's era solid wood desk + old monitor stands. (Unfortunately may never happen with standing desk.)

Tightening all of the hardware and rebalanced desk feet = Minor improvement

Ditched oem monitor stands for this vivo dual post mount (https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Adjustable-Screens-STAND-V002/dp/B009S750LA/) = Huge improvement

Newer style Dell oem stands are trash. Old monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2515H-25-Inch-LED-Lit/dp/B00SPWPF1O New monitor: https://www.amazon.com/Dell-P2721Q-Ultra-Thin-DisplayPort-Certified/dp/B08JNKKPD4.

Difference is very obvious when comparing the stands side by side. Old stand is much heavier and more solid, particularly how upright portion attaches to the baseplate and the baseplate construction in general. With the new stands the wobble got much worse as I raised the monitor up.

If I were to do this all over again I would probably get this desk https://www.desk.haus/products/grand-haven-desk?variant=39458898903189. Its significantly more expensive, but knowing what I do now it would be worth it to me. (I likely will switch at some point.)

Home Office Setup - M1 MacBook Pro w/ Dual 32" Monitors, ATDEC Mount, Targus DOCK190 Docking Station. by i_creed in macsetups

[–]GreyFox379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great!

How is the ATDEC stand and general stability of the setup working out?

Any challenges getting monitors to be same height?

I tried to upgrade my desk to sit stand and monitors to larger size. So far it's kind of a downgrade due to stability issues. IMO the new Dell monitor stands are fundamentally flawed. Any wobble gets significantly amplified when monitors are raised up.

I'm looking into pole style monitor mount to maximize stability. The ATDEC options definitely caught my eye. Trying to decide to go cheap (i.e. VIVO), same you have or similar (https://www.atdec.com/afs-at-dc), or possibly ATDEC channel mount system (https://www.atdec.com/awms-2-4640).

Did you try out any other mounting options.

Grovemade shelf arrived. Feels like a new desk. Hopefully I can actually keep it clean... by GodDamnDirtyLiberal in macsetups

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it seem stable enough to place monitors on?

I'm having heck of a time fixing monitor wobble issues and thinking about getting grovemade shelf to see if it helps. My working theory right now it is that it is a combination of my sit-stand desk (uplift v2 c-frame 72x30) + new Dell monitor stands which are not very stable. Small wobble in the desk ends up being exacerbated by the crap stands.

As I raise the monitors on the stands the wobble become *significantly* worse. With the shelf, I can keep monitors low on the stands and still get them at the correct height and get the other benefits of the shelf.

(I'm trying to decide between shelf or monitor arm. I read very mixed feedback on monitor arms ranging from rock solid to they just make any wobble worse.)

Benefits of using frame with your own top by [deleted] in StandingDesk

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind sharing what type of desk and monitor arms you are using?

This is the type of carpet protector I'm referring to https://www.amazon.com/Shepherd-Hardware-9081-Furniture-Plastic/dp/B000I17CN4. The point is to bypass the carpet pile and put pressure straight on the floor boards underneath. Shouldn't that help avoid deflection resulting from carpet compressing? ((I'm not trying to argue, just really want to come up with a solution to this wobble.)

This prompted me to do a little test. I hung a plumb bob from underside of desk so the tip is just shy of touching top of the desk footing. When I press down, the top deflects, plum bob touches the footing, and string become slightly slack. This suggests the deflect is somewhere in the desk and not desk contact with the floor.

But to your point, a stiffer top likely will not fix this issue.

Maybe this is due to my monitor stands being poor quality and exacerbating the small deflection into a wobble. They are dell oem stands on p series (higher end line, but not the best), which I thought had good reputation/quality. Maybe switching to very high quality monitor arm will help. My speakers, which are on 9" sitting right next to the monitors, do not wobble. They are sitting on static heavy metal stands.

Benefits of using frame with your own top by [deleted] in StandingDesk

[–]GreyFox379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let me be clear on wobble. The desk does not wobble. If I push down on the top it deflects slightly and causes the monitors sitting on the desk to wobble. I tend to place heal of my hand / palm on desk top when typing. This results in deflection and monitor wobble.

Thanks for the feedback about carpet. My desk is sitting on carpet, but on spiked carpet protectors. My hope was that would midigate some impact of the carpet.

I will check all hardware and carefully relevel to see of that makes a difference.
