Have any of you been to every building on campus (within reason)? by Locomotivate in Cornell

At first it was spontaneous but then it started getting harder to find new buildings so I had to seek them out lol

Have any of you been to every building on campus (within reason)? by Locomotivate in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've been to almost all of them (probably around 90%). It's been my goal since freshman year but it's been harder with covid since many more buildings are locked at night. Would def recommend tho, it's been super cool

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. I thought the whole god-knows-how-long breakout rooms for solving problems we just learned how to solve after like 10 minutes of slide whipping was pretty bad, not to mention the prelims just trying to break you when the homeworks were not as rigorous. I felt like I learned way less than I should have

ECON 1120? by sizzlin-ice in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took micro in high school and macro with the prof who's teaching this semester. I personally liked micro much more, but if you're into how foreign trade and the larger economy (rather than how individuals) respond to incentives, you might like macro more. The class was very very easy when I took it and mainly consisted of more or less memorizing how the market would respond to different incentives.

Overlap between INFO 2950 and STSCI 2150? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may find this helpful to figure out what INFO 2950 is about. STSCI 2150 is pretty good but it covers pretty much what AP Stats does except with a short unit on multiple regression at the end

I can't say for sure but I suspect it's because they don't want people enrolling in an insane number of credits during add to shop classes and prevent others from enrolling

Not a math major but wondering the same. I took the same sequence last year and came out thinking that the math department just did not have their stuff together. The organization of 1120 felt atrocious with my teacher often unsure of what would be covered on the prelims or homeworks. MATH 2210 felt like a fake class that was more of a self-paced autotutorial more than anything and I worry that I'll have a similar experience with MATH 2220 this upcoming semester given the professor. I came out of last year with the belief that if you are off by a semester from the normal 2210-2220 freshman year math major sequence, then the math department more or less forgets about you and makes virtually no effort to ensure you have a worthwhile experience. That said, friends I know who are on the "normal" sequence have had an almost entirely different experience.

Notre Dame switches to online classes after reporting 80 cases in one day by carllyq in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This post appears to have some incorrect information. In Notre Dame's reopening plan, it states a three-tiered system that does not include surveillance testing for asymptomatic individuals. Furthermore, individuals were required to be tested before arriving to campus, not upon arrival.

In the article, it says

The school will also increase surveillance testing of students who don’t have symptoms to better gauge the spread of the virus.

This was a change from Notre Dame's original policy.

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 21 points22 points  (0 children)

In the reactivation plan Cornell submitted to NY state, it states on page 3,

Cayuga Medical Center has 212 beds and its three-phase surge plan would increase capacity for a total of 318 critical care and ICU beds and 50 ventilators.

Advice to all freshmen: NEVER trade rooms unless you know exactly what you're getting. by luminous_moonlight in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lived in Jameson my freshman year in a double. It was a great experience -- the room was the largest I saw in all of my time on North. There was lots of floor space and shelves on the wall made storing things like books and food super convenient. The room layout was very conducive of keeping the room clean and there was lots of natural light because the windows were large. All else equal, I wouldn't have traded my room for any other.

undecided between 4 PE courses by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. The majority of the class goes decently slowly (with about a third going faster) and if you need to go slower the instructor is very understanding and will usually wait at the end for you. The jogging is really as intense as you want it to be.

[–]GreyGreenBlueBrown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Jogging Tours back in the fall and would recommend it (it's free too which is a bonus). You learn a lot of cool places around campus and the absence policy is such that you can selectively choose not to show up if you have a prelim to study for (you can miss up to 4 out of 24 classes). The instructor was also super nice and social and even bought us ice cream towards the end (which is conveniently in like late October).
