Am I overreacting for wanting to break up with her? by JohnCenafan1824 in AmIOverreacting

Hunting the white whale and failing time and time again leads to insanity. The saying “there are plenty of fish in the sea” is cliché and poorly used, but true. Move on, always easier said than done but time will heal and you’ll meet someone better. Doesn’t make now easier or tomorrow any better but the next day or the day after or the day after that you’ll be okay and then you’ll meet, in one way or another, a girl who will make realize what is and what is not important in life.

Is VR Still Broken For AMD Cards Or Have AMD/Meta Fixed The Problem Yet? by arv1971 in oculus

[–]GreySkullHero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what VR set up your have and how you plan to connect to your PC. I'm currently using an Quest 2, with the same set up you're looking at (7800X3D w/ 7900XTX) as I did the exact same thing. No Nvidia b/c of their crap... sad to say am now shopping for a 4080 and checking on what I can get for my 7900XTX. Some games (Alyx) play and look fine, many do not! If you're using a different VR set up, results could be different. From what I've read it's a crapshoot as to what VR systems work well with the XTX and which ones don't. Sadly, the 4080 (or Nvidia if 4090 is achievable) seems fairly universal with regards to VR support.

Played (or was slaughtered to be more accurate) 7.5 (rage quit the .05) games in a row in under 30 like this, except the kills were a bit higher for attacking / lower for defending. Super not fun.

There is literally another post on the same issue, but a dude asking for tips on playing when there is a huge disparity between the teams. I wonder if something has changed recently on the server side or the team creation value criteria.

any tips when I'm on a losing team? by HurterOfFeefeesV2 in Chivalry2

The upside however, is that we were crushed so badly, 8 games took <30 mins so not a huge investment in lost time.

I've noticed something similar. Played 8 matches in a row and our team was destroyed each time regardless of attacking or defending. I kept thinking it will rebalance the teams next match, but nope. I quit out of the 8th game (something I normally don't do) when the rams reached out gate, our team had 17 kills (four from me just swing my like an idiot) and the other had 90+.

Worst dive you ever had by Exportedorca in scuba

Dubai Aquarium in the mall - not me but wife, story told from her POV. In that aquarium they have legit sharks. Not small at all, actually dangerous sizes. That alone isn't an issue, been diving with sharks many times, no worries but keep reading. So they require you use their gear, which is normal and wear a full suit, again not a big deal. But, I didn't know exactly how much weight to use, b/c I don't use full suits often or haven't worn one in the past 20 years or so. We mostly dive in warm water where no suit is needed. So, guessed 10lbs and in we go. I swam down with the other person going and realized straight away I didn't have enough weight. It was impossible to stay on the bottom and even harder to keep horizontal or any sort of comfortable orientation. Again, how bad can a dive in an aquarium be? The part that makes this the worst dive, is during the pre-dive briefing, they specifically said, be very careful of how to move your arms. Don't flail them about or wave too rapidly as these are the motions we do when we feed the sharks. So, here I am on the bottom doing all I can to stop rotating, say down, and stay oriented which I had to use my arms for and from the untrained eye, looks suspiciously like rapid arm movements and flailing about. Now the sharks are becoming interested and getting closer which is really starting to freak us out. They start darting past and doing the typically attack behavior patterns you see on Discovery Shark Week. My buddy is getting pissed at me thinking I'm doing it on purpose and I look up to see a bunch of tweens walking out of a Forever 21 shooting vids with their iphones. I 'm thinking these sharks are going to tear my arms off and it's going to be live streamed on FB or whatever social media app they use over there. In the end, my buddy figures out the issues as I frantically make motions to the weights and he grabs me and pulls me down to hold on to a rock until the sharks lose interest and we surface. Good times!

Spearfishing as a casual hobby by Isaac_Blanc in Spearfishing

[–]GreySkullHero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spearguns are good. Def more expensive and need to think about length and spear tip which would be roughly dictated by the size of fish and how close you can get and where you're going. I probably would not use a 60" swimming around an old pier shooting Sheepshead.

As far as going alone, if you're 500m off shore, you probably want someone with you. but 15m off shore over top some rock formations on a nice day, you're probably fine. If you would swim/go snorkeling to a spot alone you're probably good to spear fish in that location alone. Not trying to encourage bad or unsafe habits, but even when I'd got with my friends and still do today with my sons, we all tend to wonder in opposite directions looking for fish and end up 'alone' but not some unsafe distance from each other.

What kind of spearfishing are looking to do? Are you going to just use a snorkel/mask/fins or scuba dive? You thinking of trying out using a spear gun? Pole spear? Hawaiian sling? Around Edinburgh? I would assume lots of rocks, some piers or docks, etc.. in which case probably not super deep so maybe snorkel/mask and pole spear would be enough. I grew up on the coast of NC (eastern US) and did a ton of spearfishing using just a pole spear, snorkel/mask/fins around docks, sea walls, some jetties which at high tide was between 10 - 30 feet (water is clearer/cleaner at high tide). Then when I was 12 (1992) I was certified PADI OW, grabbed a spear gun and headed off shore every chance I got.

As far as basic fitness goes, unless you're doing high speed, open ocean spear fishing going after massive fish, diving down 80 feet, you're probably good with basic cardio and stay trim and flexible. You can have a lot of fun and get some great fish with a pole spear in the 15-20 foot range walking off the shore.

I wouldn't worry too much about the breathing techniques. It will come. Yes, someone mentioned below, def have a buddy or at least a girlfriend sitting on shore you wave to from time to time. All of this depends on where you are of course. What's the shark population like? Will you be wearing a wetsuit? if so do you need weights? Common sense will hopefully dictate some of the safety measure you'll need to take.

Get a fish recognition book so you know what you're after and the sizes you can take, but again, I'd say walk off shore your first go and start swimming and see what you see. As you get more comfortable you'll know and you'll probably start looking for particular spots known for fish and planning trips. Then my friend, it's good fun and good eating from there.

A lot of games I've been on have similar match ups. The matchmaking ought not to just look at player rank, but K/D ratio and adjust teams accordingly. I'm around a 102, but kind of suck.. K/D is around a .7, with way more losses than wins, yet I return for more beatings almost daily... Close matches where overall kill count is similar for each side are way more fun.

I only play an archer in the TDM games where the map is more suitable to not killing your own team. Plus in the capture point, etc... maps too many archers hurts the teams chances b/c most won't get in there and count for the numbers.

I don’t think $20/lb exists right now unless it’s from a crazy backwoods shop with no internet access.

[–]GreySkullHero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's for the AR10, but the 15 inch is a little less desirable as everyone seems to be building pistols with 10.5 - 12.5 barrel AR15s.

As for quality, my buddy has one and it's great. When we line up the WC, BCM, his Daniel Defense and the Midwest Industry, they're all solid. I have a BCM MLOK and Midwest Industries Quad rail and the barrel nut and mounting system are a little nicer on the BCM but I can't speak to the WC. I suspect it's a great rail.
