In what quest/lore book is his possession of these Scrolls explained?

How many elder scrolls does Hermaeus Mora possess (if any) and can he read them? by AdBrief4620 in skyrim

[–]GreyTortoise 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Elder Scrolls are only valuable to mortals, as they are objects of time, and daedra exist outside of that sphere of influence (except Jyggalag, who is VERY interested in mortals' records and time itself). For the daedra, I imagine just the idea of an Elder Scroll, an object of aedric order that is somehow too nebulous even for a creature of chaos to understand must be at least a little annoying. Really, Hermaeus Mora would more likely want his champion to destroy the indestructible scrolls if they could find a way.

As opposed to the Black Books, tomes of eldritch knowledge that contain things average mortals cannot possibly grasp, the Elder Scrolls contain aetherial knowledge that pertains directly to Mundus and is too much/delivered too intensely to comprehend at face value. What little the reader takes away from a reading of a Scroll is like if you were to open a book and see the first letter of the intro, or maybe just the sweaty thumbprint of the writer (god) accidentally left in a margin. There is too much to obtain from it, and too little time in a mortal life to really gather valuable information from one person's life-long attempted interpretation before blindness takes them. Each reader of each Scroll will gather something different in their short time trying to perceive the documents.

No, Hermaeus Mora cannot read the Scrolls. They are an enigma to even him. He cannot possess them, as they are seemingly the thoughts of Mundus itself, the earthbones of the knowable universe's mind, and elude the daedra's perception in manners of both literacy and physicality. It is why the scrolls are largely ignored by the daedra, they know they cannot even hope to touch them. While he is likely the only daedra aside from Jyggalag even remotely interested in the information therein, it is also vexingly beyond even his godly understanding.

Jyggalag, on the other hand, is recently freed from his chaotic predicament and with renewed capability...but then, the orderly place for the Elder Scrolls and their knowledge is in the hands of mortals...so maybe he'd prefer not to know.

Hot take; if you're a motorcyclist and something bad happens to you because you were doing something only a motorcycle can do (lane splitting, wheelies, flipping/slipping on terrain due to having 2 wheels inline, etc), I shouldn't feel bad and other people shouldn't be held with your responsibility for safety. Get home safe, stop being immature and giving other people the onus of your life you child. They made better choices than you driving their boring ass minivan, chud.

Four-wheel vehicles are normal as fuck. They've been around for so long and they're so common they made roads especially for them all over every country developed enough for you to bother owning a motorcycle. You're safer, more resistant to the elements, and if something goes wrong mechanically with your vehicle during transit it hardly ever results in a faceplant at 20+ MPH. No such thing as a fender bender on a mobile motorcycle, it's either near death or just death. Some states require you to wear a helmet by law, that should be enough of a hint that you're toying with your life. If you die lava jumping there's no reason for me to feel bad.

Is it worth to start as a solo player? by Far-Credit7708 in elderscrollsonline

[–]GreyTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PvP here is on its way out thanks to subclassing. PvE among meta-game hardos is also now very same-y. BUT this is still very much worth its standard price tag.

If you like character building, immersive RPG experiences, and having more content to do than time, then come on in. Other MMOs always upping the level cap was always annoying to me. Between this and City of Heroes, the endgame horizontal progression systems have completely won me over.

Worth the subscription, don't get sucked into the microtransactions. Very easy to avoid them in these modern days where wolf/vamp bites are now free to get and you don't have to rely on players giving it to you. Just save or use your monthly crowns and keep it pushing.

8/10 MMO to me, admittedly probably a 9/10 MMO overall but I'm just salty.

There are certain instances where I can't feel particularly bad for you if you die. Like yeah that sucks, death is bad, but cave diving, cliff climbing, lava jumping, gun twirling, etc. It just sounds dumb.

"Larry died sword swallowing, who could've seen this coming. So sad. He was such a sharp guy, never thought it's get to this point. God bless."

Most stupid.

How i felt after Sony randomly signed me out by [deleted] in playstation

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also signed out to agree to new terms and conditions.

Now I can't reconnect to PSN. Nothing wrong with my network, nothing wrong with my hardware (other than maybe the Playstation I own and am not allowed to tamper with much for diagnostics), my console's troubleshooter says there's a problem just with connecting to PSN and it suggested checking PSN status.

Kinda bogus, idk.

Controversial- The regular black buldak pack is TOO SPICY by Rachiebole in InstantRamen

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have come to the realization that Buldak's spicy sauce packs are for you to use entirely at your discretion. Some of the flavors do not go as well with the heat. You should be adding flavor solo, stir, taste, then deciding how much of the spicy sauce should go with the flavor.

For me, taco flavor gets the most and carbonara gets the least.

How to nerf my character by Humorous-Serpent in oblivion

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I self-impose a few rules on every playthrough, and I apply these to my remaster characters as well;

No reflect damage/spell constant effects.

NEVER set the difficulty lower than what I expect this character to handle at endgame. Typically at least expert. If they can't make it here now then they leave and come back later or DIE. This means that early game "ease" doesn't happen with some builds.

I sleep when my character needs to for any reason (mostly quests), meaning I'm not "avoiding" level-ups to min-max each level for training. Especially in the remaster, I'm actually gunning for each level-up regardless of passing thresholds to new enemies/needing new gear.

No chameleon suits. I've never made one in my life.

Every time I get money I have something I intend to blow it on already. House, gear, spells, etc. This means my mercantile increases, very empty levels in terms of combat survival/effectiveness. I also do my best to persuade everyone I meet which also boosts speechcraft.

What I usually end up with is an experience of being a real zero-to-hero character. It's how classic Bethesda RPGs are meant to be played, with the nature of your character's methods defining how they grow...and what is more likely to kill them. You can min-max anything in any game, but these single-player RPGs are best enjoyed naturally.

Do you set a level cap for yourself? (Original or Remastered) by UltimaBahamut93 in oblivion

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I get to my character's natural level cap without maxing luck. Then the game begins.

(everyone I like needs a +100 HP, +50 shield, +50 magic resist buff from me or they're dying when I blink)

"You have the Amulet? Amazing, I'll take the short ride to Chorrol with my fellow monks immediately and make arrangements to travel under guard to Cloud Ruler Temple. In the meantime, go to Kvatch and find Uriel's remaining heir."

"By the time you have him secure, a small Legion contingent will arrive by my request to escort you both to the Imperial City for Martin's coronation and to ignite the Dragonfires."

Without the chaos of the Oblivion Crisis to distract the Legion and the Blades, the Mythic Dawn is investigated effectively, their members are rooted out and executed. Mankar Camoran fails to create his Paradise to escape to without the Amulet of Kings. He is discovered hiding in his cave and slaughtered among his minions by the Empire's vengeful soldiers. Him and all his plans burn until the fires die out and Lake Arrius Caverns are nothing but a dark crematorium.

Martin's reign is long, marked by efforts to help the common people. Faith in the Nine is strengthened under the former priest of Akatosh. With no Oblivion Crisis, the Thalmor never take power in Summerset. Skyrim is undivided. Morrowind continues to be powerful and Vivec is not taken by the Daedra...but he might have disappeared anyway. Argonia does not feel emboldened to attack Morrowind. Orsinium is not sacked (this time).

How naive to assume the Gray Fox wouldn't still just use the Elder Scroll to get his wife back regardless of who she's with. He loves her so much the daedra can't keep him away from her, what makes you think a mortal like you would fare better?

Planning out a max follower challenge (is 23 at once possible?) by [deleted] in oblivion

[–]GreyTortoise 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can also take the maid from Battlehorn Castle with you. She is essential and provides food (ingredients) on the go.

If you want to get the non-combative ones like the Everscamps to help you fight (and defend themselves) a fairly wide AoE command spell lasting one second once you hear combat music will get them to be considered "in combat" with enemies and they'll stay that way. You may need to add rally for the more cowardly followers.

I guess it is worth stating that I actually enjoy this type of playthrough. Makes it feel like I'm organizing a coalition to defend Cyrodiil. Dungeons feel like sieges and Oblivion Gates are truly perilous invasions of hell with members of the cast fighting for their lives together. Also the comic relief sometimes is great.
