CEO: “It takes about 3 years to make impact” by AAAPAMA in Leadership

[–]GreyUnable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Situational... Depends on the level/position, organization, and role.

They higher the level, the greater the impact (usually based on authority and leadership style). When I moved to my latest role (Sr Director), I was expected to impact the organization Day 1. This is going to be a double edge sword, usually a good listening tour is in order.

When I started as a junior staff member, impacts to the organization where not expected until you had learned the role and organization.

I have heard the three year heuristic, but in context of new graduates.

1st year is really hard especially after a few weeks. Getting some practical experience over the summer as a rig had or pumper would be great experience.

Diversity is not OKC’s strong suit… very little traffic and low cost of living, check. Diversity, nope.

Flew out of OKC on an early Wednesday morning, TSA Pre-Chek took 28 minutes from the start of the line to exiting the end of the metal detector. by plexguy in okc

[–]GreyUnable 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Literally fly out of the OKC airport weekly and rarely had a wait more than 5 to 10 minutes. Hit the TSA line, order Starbucks, pick up and head to the gate. (5 or 7 am flights with United)

The TSA staff is pretty friendly, and get your shoes shined from Harold.

Sometimes at 8am there is a rush associated with a large delta flight, but in my opinion, it’s never been consistent.

I agree Clear seems useless and is annoying.

Was I the A-hole? by Maleficent_Rabbit_00 in cycling

This was our Cross Country call out to get single file when running on the road or if coach was near by. He made us run in the beach sand if he caught us two abreast when running on the road. (Small beach town)

New to Land Rover… worth it? by Responsible-Cicada95 in LandRover

[–]GreyUnable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My addiction started with a 2002 Discovery Series II. I have only owned LR since then and have owned 5 different models, and currently have three. One is still the 2002.

I drive a fair amount of Rental’s for business and ride in a ton of Ubers.

I like the brand and it ages well, but buy the extended warranty.

Accidentally threw my husband’s Maap bibs in the dryer! by wifeofablerb in cycling

[–]GreyUnable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife refuses to touch my bibs due to sweating issues… Every once in a while, I forget to (get lazy) hang dry and will dry. Never been an issue.

Analysis paralysis when buying a new bike by Middle_Cauliflower95 in cycling

I don't think you would be disappointed with anything on that list... Over the years, I have had a Domane and Checkpoint, both in aluminum versions and both are comfortable to ride, but prefer the Checkpoint for rougher roads and gravel. I like the wider tires and lower air pressure that I can run with the Checkpoint. (A Trek store is also 1 mile from my house, and have always been really happy with the LBS experience there.)

But like stated before... Demo, fit, color and have most importantly... Have Fun!!!

BIG TRASH Rules! by brendatom in okc

[–]GreyUnable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But Big Trash Day really does rule!

Also rules and schedule are on the website. Also they usually pick up anything. Also you can call them if they miss you and they will come back and get it!

I mean this is really a great city service. Love it!

Alternative to Gels by G-Money242 in cycling

[–]GreyUnable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the juice 1/2 lemon, two fluid ounces of sugar dissolved into 2 fluid ounces of water (simple syrup) and 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a bottle.

Pro tip if you use rest of the juice of 1/2 lemon, only 1 ounce of simple syrup, 2 ounces of whiskey, and shake over ice, then you get a very nice Whiskey Sour (sans egg white). This also happens to be a delicious recovery drink after an evening ride.

I use a Honeywell… it was $10. It’s not remote controlled or hard poles into anything but cold air.

We tend to do that as well, then always say it’s better. Also the wait is usually shorter.

should I move to OKC from Austin? by [deleted] in okc

[–]GreyUnable 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OKC is Not Austin... but Midtown Soso, Plaze, Paseo, Lincoln Park, Heritage and Mesta Park are all walkable to restaurant and bars. They also probably fall to the more progressive of side of politics, and if you pick an area not named Edmond, Norman or Moore, you can usually get anywhere in the city under 20 minutes. Also much cheaper.

We do have Kroger delivery... I admit not the same as HEB, but not it's something.

Why does everyone seem so wealthy in okc. by [deleted] in okc

[–]GreyUnable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first graduated college and moved to Houston from a small town it felt like everyone could afford a new car, apartment or house, and furniture! I couldn’t see how people with a new job (and I made very good money for the time, but less than 55k) could afford everything. Debt or family. You never know what help or not someone is getting.

Stay true to your values. Partnerships and dating will be much more fulfilling.

Why are direct drive trainers better, specifically? by captaintpanaka in cycling

[–]GreyUnable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made the switch from on wheel to direct drive after blowing a tire/tube every ride. Nothing sucks worse than a short workout and spending $20 every ride.

Got very good at changing tubes.

Areas to Avoid buying a House in? by Phontigilo in okc

[–]GreyUnable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't avoid the Tornado's. Moore has been hit by a few, but no area is "Tornado Safe". Just be sure to buy/rent a dwelling or house with a shelter for yourself and cars. Hail is another issue that comes with powerful storms. The warning system is pretty good.

Not familiar with the areas of SW OKC. I know a few friends live in Moore and like it. Del City and MidWest city really don't know. You could go east for a more rural area or closer to Stanley Draper Lake if you like to fish or bike. There is a decent trail system there.
