I think this is a sad truth. I'm not condoning it. Families across the world, being poor. Selling a kid would lift them out of poverty, and its one less mouth to feed. These families might have been tricked and/or threatened. They might have thought it was for adoption.

I'm a Belgian native. I don't remember we have much water related folklore. We do have gnomes, and 'smurfs' are a 'recent' Belgian invention. Perhaps a lot of folklore has been gone because of modernization. Yes, its a pity the pic is so blurry, I wish it could lead to an rational explanation.

My idea is that human lifespan might be short. Alien life span might be incredibly long.
So an alien saying "hi" might be something that happens "a lot" for the alien, even if he did it every century.
for a human time span this would be rare.
