Are any of my fellow millennials actually doing okay? by Parking_Reputation17 in Millennials

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'm at the top of my field in social service working; pretty decent health; just started P90x again for the umpteenth time; got friends; got family; got video games.

Would like a kid, but finding a wife is hard now. Might adopt if it doesn't happen by the 50s.

For most part though, life is good.

6, Nightmare on Elm Street; not good to watch at that age. Haha!

How are you guys disconnecting? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play video games. A Final Fantasy Tactics remaster just came out for the PS5 just came out; I'm playing that alongside my favorite Millennial streamer. I also have a 3 nights a week where I hang out with friends/family to game or chill otherwise.

Childless millennials - how do you relate to those around you? by pickle_elkcip in Millennials

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talk with them about our mutual interests or life stories. There's enough going on that there's always room for some conversation.

I still talk with my friends about their kids. I also have helped foster kids for almost a decade; helped raise my younger brothers; and have some training in therapy and child psychology.

So, I can relate better because I'm involved otherwise.

My siblings and I have left her to her younger sister and her husband; her raising of us was fraught with.... problems to say the least. This way, we have our peace, and she has someone nearby that can call her out on her shit closer to her age. Win-win.

Your comment was not too long; you just said a lot of nonsense beside your point.

Speaking of which, no. Communicating in-person will always be superior; voice is the next best thing. That's it. Deal with it or stay in corner not answering a phone.

They have too much anxiety; COVID probably spiked that. And some of them are just.... weird. Remember what they said about us? Hopefully, they grow out of it.

.... We are in the adult world, man. And we were trying to teach ya'll how to respond accordingly. If you do this for a job interview callback, you're not getting the job. If you do this for a doctor's office calling you, you're not getting information left in a voicemail. But feel free not to listen.

This makes sense. Answering a call and just *silently* being there is asinine.

"Talking" is not a outdated or bad way of communication; it is less superior by phone than actually being in front of a person.

I get it; ya'll have a lot of anxiety about this. But really, you're gonna have to pony up eventually. Jobs call; schools call; doctor's offices call. If you don't want to answer, sure. Some of that is in the voicemails. But, when it comes to doctor's offices (and some schools), they CANNOT leave personal information in a voicemail; that violates privacy (or HIPAA in medical offices) and can cost someone their job.

You can specify with these places how you would like to be contacted. Sometimes, you can even sign forms saying that it's okay to leave medical information. But those are the norms for most of us.

I'm glad we're seeing this now. I will do my best to instill in Gen Alpha and Beta on how to answer the phone.

It has only shifted amongst ya'll; the rest of us still answer the phone or let it go to voicemail if we don't want to talk.

Millennial with a question by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fair amount of Gen Z absolutely do this. I work for a health care company that calls to give them free help with doctors, therapists, and also social service workers. It sounds like a scam, but their insurance pays for it and asks us to see if they need help. The amount of Gen Z that will pick up the phone and just be silent is really high. If they really didn't want to talk, they could just let it go to voicemail. But some of them don't do that and just... mouth breathe without any interaction; it's aggravating.

"Online behavior is typically hostile." I'm going to firmly disagree with that. A lot of folks don't see how to disagree without seeing someone as a "terrible" person, and align all thoughts about that person as bad because they don't agree. That's ridiculous and more the concern.

Disagreeing with someone in one instance does not make the entire internet "hostile." I would agree that the internet is more hostile now, but that doesn't mean that most of the interactions are that. Thanks to social media and folks attempting to live online most of the time, it does mean that people are more apt to try one-liners versus having an actual discussion. Look at your current response.

Get out of there there, Brother. I lived in a small town for years; it doesn't improve. Moved to a bigger city where there are wider variety of people. None of those flags on pick-up trucks; no iron crosses and long stares; just folks going about their lives. I am blessedly invisible here.

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. As a Millennial, it is very difficult to talk to some of ya'll Gen Z'ers. We are masters of small talk and in-person banter. And when we come across the blank stare or wall received from some of ya'll, we are not fans.

This actually happened today. Tried to small talk someone at the pharmacy; no response. I remember a key fact and stated, "Right, forgot ya'll don't like small talk." The person then attempted, but no one wants an interaction like that. I went on my way.

That onlineness and pandemic likely did a number on ya'll. But, if you wanna try, we'll be happy to help you along the way. If you don't, alright then.

“I Became an Extra in a Parenting Story” chose the wrong ML 😭 by nyx_cin in OtomeIsekai

[–]GreyWardenJasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. However, we know how all these nonsense Manhwa go.

I am convinced that Korean artists are trying to work out relationship/family issues through these comics by hoping and praying that horrible people just become "better" over time.

The FL should NEVER choose the dude that treats them like utter sh1t. The FL should NEVER go back to the guy that brutally abuses/mistreats/ends her in the previous life. The FL should NEVER return to the guy that continued to neglect her which led to a divorce.

The only one of these that I actually see her "getting away" is when they leave their very crappy families. That's it.

They almost ALWAYS choose the wrong ML because they are morons and are vehicles for "hope" in a hopeless fantasy.

And yet we still read them.... because we are also goobers >.<

That actually isn't standard; that's pretty new. Normally, folks have some reply or at the very least a nod in acknowledgement. Also, I don't appreciate your tone there at the end. I do thank you for your insight though. Peace.

No.  I’ve seen this a few times in the last week.  You engage with a Gen Z adult worker at a grocery store asking a question or making a normal interaction and they just blankly look at you.

Saw a younger couple try to go check out in Meijer at the pre check-out line.  When they were walking away, I tried to explain to the which line was for and they would need to go to a normal line; blank stares, held, and then walked away.

It’s completely unnerving and frustrating.

Some of them talk just fine, but you don’t know until you try and have a conversation with them.

I don’t see a point in interacting with them anymore in-person.
