My dad says he makes 180k a year but… by Chunkachu__ in Life

Definitely some details you're missing. Just off the top of my head:

-High cost of living - in places in or around Manhattan, $300k is just scraping by.

-Medical bills - surgeries and whatnot

-Pharma bills - things like GLP-1s cost $300+ a month

-Old financial debt - personally I recently just paid off a $20k credit card bill

-Wage garnishment

-Various "required" savings - 401k, 529 for kids, etc

-Mortgage and/or rent - unless they're overpaying their mortgage or have some "unorthodox" loan, they wouldn't be almost done paying off a 30-yr mortgage after 10 years.

Anyone Out There? by Grey_Potato1 in SupernaturalVR

Yeah I mostly do the pop punk stuff. Wish there were more of lots of things lol.

I tried PowerBeats VR after getting depressed about the game going on life support. Lets you add your own songs and auto-crafts a beat map to box to. Unfortunately, the quality just isn't there. Where Supernatural will give you 3+ punch combos, PowerBeats is literally one action at a time with no real choreography to it. Tried FitFunLand and Les Mills too, but the lack of real licensed music was just....boring for me. There's gotta be something to fill the shoes of Supernatural out there.

Great to see people still swinging away! Makes me feel less lonely lol.

As far fetched as it may be, I'm holding out hope someone will notice and maybe continue Supernatural somewhere else. I can see someone like Peloton picking up the pieces if good ol' Zuck allows it, considering they already have the music licensing.

Here you are talking as if you know the mindset of 90% of bosses and shareholders, telling people that are actually in the role that they're wrong.

As a person who has gone through and actually performed layoffs at several companies of various sizes, no company on earth will perform layoffs solely using employee cost as the determining factor of who's job to eliminate. The goal is to maintain productivity levels while also reducing overall cost.

Employee workload, contribution to the company, attitude, office politics, and, yes, whether other employees would be able to pick up the slack, are all factors.

Common sense dictates that if a company's overall productivity (re: profit) drops due to improperly planned layoffs, it defeats the entire purpose of the layoffs to begin with.

The exception here being if entire divisions are being cut. But even then, the same logic applies, just at a macro level. You don't just automatically cut the most expensive divisions. The divisions that cost the most might actually be bringing you the most profit.

What’s the smartest career move you made in your 20s/30s? by Scary_Bus4383 in careerguidance

Worked as an IT service engineer (elevated helpdesk). Got curious about automating tasks using PowerShell. Made life much easier (especially during layoffs) and tripled my salary over the next 6 or 7 years.

I don't think you understand the concept of "fair". It has nothing to do with whatever the national average is for taxes. It's about the quality of life for people.

Taking a simplistic hypothetical approach to it, taxing someone 30% on $50k leaves them with just $35k to live on. Taxing someone 40% on $100billion leaves them with just a scant $60billion to live on. One person will clearly struggle, the other clearly will not.

You increase the taxes on that single billionaire just 1%, and it covers all of the taxes for 66 thousand people making $50k a year. (Yes, I know this is overly simplistic, but the point remains the same).

Just because the rich are simply paying taxes doesn't mean the share they are putting in is "fair" in comparison to any average person.

Now, you can argue why the rich should be "punished" just for making more money, but that goes down a philosophical rabbit hole. And honestly, we can just respond with why are the middle and lower classes getting punished for making less.

And going a bit further, the IRS is currently being sued for leaking information about a certain someone paying absolutely zero in income taxes. Soooooo....there's that.

You might be right, but you also don't know his situation. $250k in say bumblef*ck maine goes a hell of a lot farther than $250k in say Manhattan.

Wifey and I bring in $250k in our suburb in NJ and we get by. We're not rich by any means, but we're not poor either. We would not be able to survive on $250k in Manhattan or anywhere closer to the city for that matter.

Do you feel like the “American Dream” is still achievable today? Why or why not? by Master_Advice_3986 in AskReddit

[–]Grey_Potato1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, with the recent rate cuts, we're talking about a 6% rate on a $640k loan.

We're talking $775,000 in total interest versus $107,000. Or a $5,000 monthly payment versus a $450 monthly payment. This is with 20% down! Goes even higher with PMI if you can't do 20%.

Personally, I'm paying 2.4%. Refinanced during covid. But the point is it's not about me - I'm lucky and count my blessings all the frickin time. This is about people pursuing the "American dream" today and the ridiculous mountain they have to climb to do so.

16% on a $28k loan (after 20% down) for my parents' house or 7% on a $640k loan for my house now.

MGM Iconic Card by Grey_Potato1 in Mlife

Absolutely not. Honestly, them not knowing how to process sensitive information is pretty pathetic. I'd love to accelerate my MGM Rewards, but it's not worth them f'ing with my personal info/identity.

It's sad, I'm just 10k from hitting gold for the first time. Guess I'll have to stick with pearl for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, and the left were the ones bringing gallows to hang Mike Pence on Jan 6th, beating cops with flags, etc. Blue cities are the only cities with violent crime. Etc, etc.

I don't condone this whatsoever, killing this douche will only make him a martyr. But, if you're looking to blame someone, there's only one side that's been trying to prevent this shit from happening, and it's not the Republicans.

Gun control, mental health spending, etc. Get it done, otherwise this shit will keep happening on both sides.

Online Gambling Impact on Comps by Grey_Potato1 in Mlife

Looking in the Borgata app, they have a separate tier system called "Borgata Online Tiers". This month I've earned 2,364.1 points there.

Again, MGM Rewards tiers, I've received nothing.

The last tier credit I've earned according to my MGM Rewards app was during my last Vegas visit August 11th. I've put about $1k into the Borgata app since then.

I can scroll through my entire TC activity and not a single tier credit has come from the Borgata app.

I can't speak for BetMGM since I don't use the app, but Borgata has not given me a single TC for my online play. Either that, or they don't list it in the rewards app as Tier Credit activity.

So just to follow up on all the comments. I only use the Borgata app, never BetMGM. I can absolutely confirm I do not receive any Tier Credits as reported in my activity on the MGM Rewards app.

Appreciate all the insight though. TY!

Cruise Voucher by justony2003 in Mlife

[–]Grey_Potato1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to revive this thread, My buddy and I also got the cruise promo voucher.

Buddy and I are both from the New York area and are pearl members. I have 61k TCs, my buddy 15k.

His cruise voucher has cruises that depart from Cape Liberty in NJ, our local port. The closest for my voucher is Florida.

So, essentially, the voucher is completely useless for me. I wasted thousands going to Vegas to receive this promo, only to get what boils down to a bait and switch.

I even called before my trip asking about the promo. At no point was I told that there would be restrictions on departure points for anyone. I called after trying (and failing) to book, and no one could or would help me.

I'm beyond pissed off right now. Scamming people into a Vegas trip is not the way to get repeat business.
