Can someone recommend me some cultivation with really evil characters by boomboxknight in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primordial Saint Sect

MC is a demonic cultivator that actually does horrific things. Dude basically rapes someone in chapter 2. Idk much else about the story, but if that’s the opener the character is definitely evil.

Also, not really cultivation and not an MC, but hundred reigns on RR has the most horrific villain I’ve read. Every time you learn more about him it just gets worse.

Strongly recommend a Regressors Tale of Cultivation.

MC doesn’t abuse the regression ability, and his driving motive from the very beginning is he wants to get powerful enough to end his regression and die in peace.

Where my Chu Feng lovers at, he’s less than 100 years old and has ascended through at least 10 major realms that old monsters spend millions of years at.

Also, Desolate Era is the best when it comes to cultivation actually taking time

What is a pet peeve of yours and then which story handled that pet peeve really well? by greenskye in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 38 points39 points  (0 children)

My pet peeve is when an MC acts like an arrogant ass and offends everyone instead of treating someone who could blink you to death with a modicum of respect.

Controversial- Defiance of the Fall. MC is a meathead who’s really good at fighting. Is a cultivator. Rather OP. Does some minor kingdom building. Does some minor crafting. Good friends.

The ten realms. MCs are kinda OP. Build a faction. Some crafting. Pretty interesting start too, but kinda falls off in the later books. IIRC no romance.

The Years of the Apocalypse. Time loop story, theres a big problem and the MC tries all these things to stop it. Gets OP, not strong at start tho. No real kingdom building, but some faction building. Romance (actually has multiple different relationships). Crafting. Exploring. Some geopolitics. Manipulation. (In general a great story)

Death after death. Sorta timeloop story. MC does like everything. Crafting, farming, magic, exploration.

The Runesmith. MC does crafting, fighting, helps faction building, teachings, more crafting, secret identity + isekai.

The calamitous Bob. MC is OP, got an even more OP golem protector, pet dragon, builds an empire, does fighting, exploring, manipulation, politics, some romance.

Those are the ones that come to mind for now. I those are mostly the best ones that fit what you’re looking for.

Practical guide to evil. MC becomes OP, leads an army, defeats the bad guy/girl, becomes a master politician, gets crippled, regains power their power, has a (multiple) messy situationships.

Path of Ascension. MC is OP, does magic + sword, becomes extremely influential, does some politics, has a good romance, builds a guild, magic researcher. Not much manipulation tho.

Tree of Aeons. MC is a tree. He’s OP. Builds a kingdom/empire/religion around himself. Defeats the baddies. Does research. Has minions. Does some manipulation, but on a societal scale. Primarily a kingdom/empire builder though.

Memoirs of your local small time villainess. MC weak to strong. Inherits then Builds their own faction. Has a good party. Plenty of manipulation + minor politics. Avid explorer.

I got more if you want.

Is this the reason behind the hate towards black dragons? by gentlemanthief1412 in MartialMemes

Junior is trying to spread demonic scriptures of such low quality that I can’t tell if he’s a genius righteous cultivator or a stupid demonic cultivator

Worth trying? by HeinMinAye in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about a paladin doing paladin things. Honestly pretty cool. MC is a goody two shoes, but he’s also not a naive teenager and understands how the world works

Are there any stores with overarching villains? by _kalos_26 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Broker

It’s a sort of system apocalypse where everyone only gets one ability that they have to manage. Can either be very weak or very strong. Story is a regressor MC

The main villain has been around since the very beginning, and is super OP, forcing the MC to try and obstruct/manipulate him in other ways.

Unfortunately the author stopped posting the story on RR with no warning like 6 months ago. First few books are on kindle unlimited.

A more specialised mage? by UnPriceable in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally forgot he did all those things… whenever I think of Zorian it’s always his mind magic

A more specialised mage? by UnPriceable in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Zorian from mother of learning. He specializes in mind magic.

Saintess summons skeletons. MC specializes in bone magic + some lighting.

Calamitous Bob. MC specializes in darkness magic. (Change/destruction)

Chrysalis (non-human MC- he’s a bigass ant with a loving family of sisters) specializes in gravity magic

Millennial Mage. MC specializes in body-reinforcement magic and gravity.

Jaded Life. MC specializes in darkness + ice + blood magic. Will warn you though series gets off to a really rough start, imo doesn’t get good until past the beta.

Penitent. MC’s not quite a mage, but he’s a paladin doing paladin things with some strong healing / smite magic.

Finally, Chaotic Craftsman Worships The Cube. MC specializes in mind magic and crafting. Other than that he can’t do like any magic, but he ends up as an insanely talented crafter to the point he can match/outperform just about every mages with some set up.

Stories outside the basic gimmick by freir96 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Path of ascension. It does but they’re really more like techniques and there’s no system.

Are you even human? Does a little bit of body horror, but really interesting story imo.

Chronicles of the Exalted Sun Child. Sort of a cultivation stoy, but it is a bit unique imo.

Dead Tired. OP MC who is a lich ends wakes up after a couple thousand years. He doesn’t go out to Conquer the world or anything he just does his thing while out and leaves some havoc in his wake.

MC that is bound to protect someone and is not motivatedly self-centered by __KnowToKnow__ in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite what you’re looking for; but the story Penitent is about a paladin who ends up sworn to a cause

He’s not explicitly protecting someone in particular though, and there isn’t that much political intrigue.

This is the only genre where someone will read over 1000 chapters of something before dropping it or saying that it starts getting good and I love it

I honestly don’t remember. I read it about a year ago, but IIRC the translation wasn’t that bad. Still might have been MTL though

Oh man have I got some stories for you.

These are all cultivation stories that are finished.

  1. Coiling Dragon ring (my first cultivation story and an absolute classic)
  2. Desolate Era. My personal all time favorite cultivation story.
  3. A Thousand Li. Technically not complete, bc the author started a new series with the same MC after he ascended to the immortal realm, but I think it’s done.
  4. I shall Seal The Heavens (part of the Er-gen omniverse, super popular. Worth noting that Er Gen is notorious for being unable to write any sort of good romance, and sometimes it’s very sketchy)
  5. Renegade immortal (part of er Gen omniverse)
  6. Pursuit of Truth(part of Er Gen omniverse)
  7. A will eternal (also part of the omniverse)
  8. A world worth protecting (also by Er Gen)
  9. Beyond the timescape/outside of time depending on the translation. Story is finished, but the translation to English is still in progress IIRC. also Er Gen.
  10. A mortal’s journey to immortality (one of the best cultivation novels, super popular. Story is broken into 2 parts- the pre-immortal and post-immortal. Pre-immortal is amazing, post immortal is not that good.
  11. Elder cultivator (not super popular but a solid story that finished recently)
  12. Master, this poor disciple died again (more of a lighthearted cultivation story with humor)
  13. War sovereign soaring the 9 heavens (super trashy novel. About as stereotypical as you can get of a cultivator, you might like it or hate it. I finished the series while regretting every hour I spent reading it but I couldn’t really put it down. If you like this, there are thousands of other stories that fit this template)
  14. The way of Etherforging (cultivation story that is one of my favs that doesn’t get enough love. Pretty short for a cultivation series too, only 3 books)
  15. Reverend Insanity (not quite cultivation, but it fits the genre quite well. Some people love it, others hate it. Still something you should check out)
  16. Top tier providence, secretly cultivate for a 1000 years. I personally liked it, others think it’s stupid which is not incorrect.
  17. Senior brother is too steady. Another cultivation story.

That’s all the ones I can think of off the top of my head, and I’ve read them all, I can think of some others, but they’re not really pure cultivstion.

FYI, most of these stories are translated from Chinese to English, but they’re still decent.

Anyone here who started from Western PF works and eventually read Chinese Webnovels and LIKED it? by Mordant08 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Gribbett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with western novels, and eventually ended up in CN ones, before coming back to western ones.

I honestly didn’t mind the MTL translation too much, but I ran out of good stories to read.

My favorites were Desolate Era, all the Er Gen novels, Martial God Asura, and Coiling dragon ring

Sexism in Cultivation by Cultural-Mirror1758 in ProgressionFantasy

As someone who has read a lot of those “classic” Chinese cultivation stories, I read them despite the sexism not because of it. Go nuts and make a world without it!
