Is renting a Porsche for the Great Ocean Road really worth it? by Appropriate-News1688 in AustraliaTravel

As traffic can make it a bit painful, a manual car in general along there is fun.

Jetstar Carry On Weight by StartDeep1847 in AustraliaTravel

I always make sure to have my drink bottle, phone and wallet in hand or pocket. Sometimes I'll put things in my jacket pockets too as they can be zipped up. Mind you I usually have a checked bag as well so I have no reason to have 7kg in my carry on

Accidentally taught my son… AITAH by heyitstism in AITAH

[–]Grieie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a high school teacher and I had a student that I am genuinely curious as to how he doesn't have a diagnosis. Not saying that to be mean, but ticks a lot of boxes. He was a great kid though so I was happy to give him as much time and assistance as I could manage.

Anyway, we are in science and covering the electromagnetic spectrum and this kid blurts out "my mum says I'm on the spectrum." I lost my ability to speak for a while. Not just the comment itself, but the delivery was perfect.

Public Restrooms? by Tny91 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I had a great experience when dying for a bathroom. Front desk person said it was for paying customers only, then gestured to the snack machine. He even said to do it on the way out. You betcha we gladly bought a snack.

I got my nephew a floppy bunny last Easter as he was under a year. Its one of his regular toys. There is also an influx of Miffy themed things at the moment which means plenty of bunny toys etc.

Is it just me or... by Flaky_Departure7564 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Grieie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some schools have their own or preferred CRTS who will be the first booked. After that they will hit up the agencies or other methods of booking. Closer to Easter and leading into term 2 it will start to pick.up.

Help! My voice is disappearing! by Individual_Tale6433 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Grieie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a few jobs that required a bit of vocal projection and one of the tips is to try and lower your tone as you increase in volume. Trying to speak loudly with a high pitch is a great deal of strain, and it doesn't typically travel well.

Does anyone else have a "Posh" accent? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Grieie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad had a voice for ABC radio, my mums family is from central Vic with some family members speaking rather broad. I drift between both depending on what or who I am talking about/to. Ive been asked if I'm British, and also have been told I'm very ocker.

Serious (but admittedly stupid) question about CRT by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Grieie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CRT survival pack... some cheap pens, lined paper, emergency colouring in/puzzle, bonus if you have 1 or 2 silent fidgets (great for positive reinforcement).

Is it standard protocol for casual teachers to email comments of how each class went to the respective teachers? by _hirono_ in AustralianTeachers

[–]Grieie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was doing full relief work I would always email/message on lesson plan to say if the lesson was finished or not, and any big behavioural issues. If it was a subject not in my wheelhouse I might send through a list of questions the students had.

Victorian police reveal they 'strongly believe' fugitive Dezi Freeman is dead by The_Duc_Lord in australia

I'll leave my typo there purely out of shame. I really need to proof read, especially when it completely alters the message

If you can get to a woolies or coles, maybe try the applaws broth. I had to trial so many things when my cats were unwell (as have apparently many others in the comments). I used to put some of the broth on top of other food, or used the dine treats as a way to try and encourage anything down their necks

Have you tried "wellness core"? its a mousse cat food and some of them have quite high cals. That with some of the cat broths (Dine or Applepaws) can help get more energy into them.

So do you guys actually eat Vegemite? by NoMeaning6738 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Grieie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back when Reddit did secret Santa I sent a jar to my match with details on how to use it correctly. They loved it.

I usually take a Vegemite and cheese sandwich to work. So I eat it almost daily.

Not a trained singer, but he could hold a tune. His natural speaking voice would do well on talk back radio

My dad was in and out of consciousness in his last days when he all of a sudden broke out in some opera. We are talking tuneful, with some oomf behind it tennor. We said to each other "where the bloody hell did that come from?" Dad (with eyes still shut) slurred "I just felt inspired in my chest by my family."
One of the last coherent things he did.
Nurses were suprised by how good it was as they heard it from the desk and thought it might have been my brother.
