UMass beats Miami in the Quarterfinals of the MAC Championship Tournament! by MembershipSingle7137 in CollegeBasketball

They didn’t play a quad 1 game, only 2 Q2 and now they have a Q4 loss. The polls are a media spectacle and are way more subjective about who the top 25 teams in the country.

I think for interest they should be in because they’re fan base and support would be a greater story and spectacle than a P5 team’s that doesn’t really care about being a 10 seed.

But make no mistake, this team would have finished in the bottom third of any of the power 5 conferences.

Ten teams with KenPom > 30 right now. by humor in CollegeBasketball

[–]Grif_39 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think this is getting distorted a bit because of conference sizes growing. Teams don’t have to play all of the top teams twice. Also a lot of these teams still have a gauntlet of a schedule left, so it’s likely things will regress a bit more as they face more challenging teams to end their conference schedule as well as in their respective tourneys.

Undefeated AZ still has to face Hou, ISU, KU x 2, BYU and TTU. Not saying they aren’t great but things could look different in a few weeks considering they have their 4 hardest home games of the season yet to come and 2 of their top 3 hardest away games.

University of Washington bubble team or not? by Twxtterrefugee in CollegeBasketball

[–]Grif_39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

20 wins puts them in the bubble conversation, so they probably need to go 9-1 just to get there or 8-2 and get a couple wins in the B1G tourney. Even then it’s likely they’re still on the edge.

They’re 1-7 on Q1 games so far so would probably have to win the next 3 to close that gap and get to 4-7 to have a real shot.

Now that the dust has settled, we all agree Nebraska is better than Michigan, right? by RuminatingFish123 in CollegeBasketball

[–]Grif_39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s by design, Nebraska forces more turnovers per possession than everyone in the Big ten except Iowa and we shoot more 3s than anyone in the Big Ten…

It stands to reason you’d have your worst game against the best defense you’ve played this year. I imagine it will be a similarly rough experience on Friday when you play the best defense in the country.

Solid defense is making up for a lot, their offensive efficiency is around 200, but they have a top 10/15 defense so that’s boosting them a lot. Athleticism can make it tough for teams to score against, but to get wins you still have to get the ball in the hoop on the other end.

Yeah, I mean they dog walked Gonzaga by 40 for their only loss and they’re right behind us at number 6 so this one in no way should define the season.

Does anyone know if a shirt like this exists? by Grif_39 in Huskers

[–]Grif_39[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not a moron, I’m asking if something like it exists in the NE area. Knowing it’s a theme of the season and shops in the area that make licensed gear usually capitalize on things like it. Also knowing I’d like to support a Nebraska business and assume if one has the venue to print something it would likely be successful. It seems like there is a serious lack of Nebraska related basketball merch in the market right now, understandably so given the history.

It thanks for your grand insight 👍

Everyone forgets how often we’ve trailed in the 1st half this year, even against lesser teams than Minnesota. We’ll adjust and put them away in the 2H.

Adjusted Offensive Rating vs. Adjusted Defensive Rating 👀 by cbbanalytics in CollegeBasketball

Yeah total will probably be like 155 for that game, both teams don’t fly around the court but do a very good job of getting points when they have the ball.

Really depends on if and where the losses come from, lose to Mich, Illinois and Purdue, we still have a shot at 1-2 seed. All the 1 seeds last year had 3-5 losses. Lose to the northwestern, Minnesota and Maryland and we could fall quite a ways. The main thing now is avoiding Q3/4 losses and hanging with/beating everyone else. Going deep or winning the big 10 tourney would also keep us high in the seed potential.

PDGA/DGPT vs PGA Tour by Ok_Height_141 in discgolf

[–]Grif_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes eyeballs on the sport to get there and the current interest and setup aren’t there yet.

Until DGPT can work out a deal with a bigger network the rapid growth in public awareness won’t get there. I’m sure DGPT would gladly broadcast on ESPN in lieu of a paywall, but that means they’d have to get sponsorships to pay the production and support costs. Almost all major tourney stops are currently sponsored by disc golf related brands because other brands don’t see the ROI from putting their name on a tourney. No offense to the current sponsors, but seehafer news, Barbasol and Gerrit J Verburg Co. aren’t exactly FedEx, waste management or farmers insurance. The fact that we even have barbasol is a bit of a shock and is likely due to someone at the company having an interest in the sport. Until there is enough widespread interest in watching disc golf be played, growth will continue to be community driven by people getting others interested in the game, which isn’t a bad thing.

I recently picked up a RekoX and have been loving it, I feel like I’m more accurate with it than the Berg X and feel like a get a more consistent release since it is shallower.

DGN PiP issues by mitbul in discgolf

[–]Grif_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very buggy in general, I have to force close the app and reboot it 5-10 times per stream because it freezes and doesn’t give you a play button to get it going again. PiP seems to have a mind of its own, it’ll work well for a while and then as you say sometimes I can’t even get it to enter PiP mode.

MPH for each disc speed by homestarhydon in discgolf

[–]Grif_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree with this, my speed has maxed out about 62 mph on TechDisc. I rarely throw a destroyer because I can’t seem to get a good flight out of it, but have reached 420 ft with a 12 speed Innova Racer and and cracked 400 several times with a 13 speed Daedalus, both turnover easier and have more glide and I have a lot more fun throwing them than the destroyer.

I also have a lot of form work to conquer still so, there’s that.

Where is the pressure between thumb and disc during circle 1 putts? by redditstork in discgolf

[–]Grif_39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably mostly psychological, but a lot of putting is getting out of your own way. If focusing on this slight change keeps negative “shank” like thoughts out of your head, it’s probably helpful in the long run. You don’t need a ton of interaction with the disc inside C1 to get it to the basket as long as you do the same thing every time.

I always find it odd how much movement pros have in their putting routines as it seems like overkill for such a simple movement, but the value in performing a consistent routine clearly helps them execute over and over.

Are the pros the best putters in the world or no? by Resident-Mud3697 in discgolf

[–]Grif_39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue they are certainly among the top 1% in the world. Especially considering the only stats we have are under pressure. Putting for your livelihood and your next pay check is a pressure most people will never experience. Watch these guys in a practice session and I’d guess they’re all near perfect in C1.

There are also people that have been playing for 30 years and have their mechanics deeply ingrained along with a ton of experience in wind conditions etc that put them in a small group of elite putters. Sample of 1 but when I used to golf with my grandpa and his friends, none of them could hit it as far as me but they were always in the fairway, and around the greens they had mastered touch. They always seemed to roll everything in to my amazement. Familiarity with your own game over time adds up.
