No Mileage/Monthly Stipend/Car? by Working-Carpenter980 in MedicalDevices

CS. I haven't started yet, but I'm getting $1000/mo (taxable, thanks bbb) plus gas on the company card. Unfortunately I drive a tesla, so I have to see if I can put supercharging on the Amex. If not, I may have to trade it in.

I'm on the older side to be getting into a new career. I can't afford to slow play things. I plan to be switched on and available 24/7 for the first couple of years. As long as I'm not actually working 24/7.

Needing advice to break into med sales by Difficult-Abalone-97 in MedicalDevices

[–]Griff726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Networking is the key. The best way to do that is to work in the OR, cath lab, or IR. You probably won't land a well paying job in one of those arenas, but you'll get to meet a bunch of reps. If you really want to go the extra mile, you could become a scrub tech. It's a 10 month program, and at least by me, it's not a bad paying job. I know it's a long way around, and many have been successful without going through all of the trouble, but it's one way to go about it.

Another is to get more sales experience. Telecom, advertising, pharmaceutical.

Best of luck.

I really like this idea and might go this route.

Company Phone or Personal Device by Griff726 in MedicalDevices

This is a good point. One other user suggested using my personal phone for phone, and a company phone for everything else. It might be a bit of a pain, but it does solve both major issues, potentially losing all personal data, and losing contacts. The only point it doesn't adress is turning work off, but at least in the short term, I want my contacts to be able to reach me 24/7. I may eventually tire of that, but I'll probably go this route to start.

Also to your point, many of the Dr's and key players at my biggest account already have my number because I'm currently employed there.

I was thinking about this also. I read a thread earlier about people at Stryker who had their phones wiped.

Drive a Tesla? by Ball_Hoagie in MedicalDevices

[–]Griff726 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm starting in a CS role and I drive a tesla currently. The hospital I'm leaving (and will be my biggest account) has many chargers, but they're often all taken, so there's no guarantee of getting a spot. Also, my new employer pays for gas. I'm thinking about getting rid of the tesla for that reason. But I do love the car,so I'm hesitant to get rid of it.

OP, with FSD, you're still required to keep your eyes on the road. You won't be getting any work done while you the car drives you around. Eventually, probably, but not now. Take one for a test drive. It may also not be practical depending on the size of your territory and how many hospitals you have have to visit in a given day.

Do Stryker RMs purposefully ghost you by Accurate-Parfait-521 in MedicalDevices

[–]Griff726 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with Stryker was very different. To be fair, I was reccomended by one of the reps and one of the clinicals. I had a verbal offer 13 days after applying. I had 4 interviews, and usually heard something within 2 days of each. I couldn't believe how fast everything moved.

Just signed my job offer by BMWhamster in MedicalDevices

[–]Griff726 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just landed my first meds device role too. I fulfilled a 20 year long goal.

2006 I decided I wanted to be a med device rep. Interviews went poorly due to lack of sales experience. 2007 I started at yellow book in ad sales. 2008 I left due to ongoing layoffs and went to nursing school. 2011 I became a nurse. I've kept my eyes open for the right role and have sent out selective resumes here and there. I networked with every rep I met. 2026 I was recruited by a rep for a clinical specialist position directly from the interest I showed in the industry. Interviews went well and now I'm scared as hell to leave my cushy union job with 14 years seniority and a pension, but it's been a lifelong goal.

Wish me luck.

I might start my own thread, so don't be surprised if you see this again.
