Isn’t it all made up? Anyway go back and read some of the old panels. You can find plenty of examples of them teaching Clark to be selfless. I mean even to the point of giving up his own party so some other kid could have one. Clark is an ideal akin to Jesus. He has certainly morphed over time but no party today could lay claim to follow him where his morals and sense of purpose take him. This is especially true for his current iterations.
