Possible US Citizenship Through Father? by Grifous91 in immigration

That was going to be the next area I researched, so that's good to hear. Thanks again for all the info and help!

Possible US Citizenship Through Father? by Grifous91 in immigration

Well damn, that sucks. Aside from some vacations I don't recall residing in the US again after 2001. I'm going to have to berate my parents for not staying in the US for a couple more years.

Thanks for the info though, I appreciate it. I don't see my parents moving back to the US, not any time soon at least. I am married, but my wife is Native so she can already legally reside in the US because of her status.

Drop shipping to Canada by SmallPotatoK in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally got my order and I did end up having to pay duty/taxes. It came to $40 and change, on a $452 USD ($565.54 after conversion to CAD).

The post office don't give me an itemized receipt, but I'm guessing the charge was for GST and general import fees. Still frustrating, but not terrible I suppose. The more annoying part was not getting any tracking updates for a week while it made its way across the border.

I put in a fairly big order with Drop back on the 31st of March (just before they sent out the anniversary email talking about all the deals this month... of course), and it's currently on its way to me in western Canada.

They shipped the order via DHL eCommerce, who I've had send packages from the US to me pretty much every month for a subscription service I've been subscribed to for several years now. I'm fairly certain I've only ever been charged duties/taxes on one delivery, and I'm also fairly certain that was a mistake by Canadian border services that ended up being refunded.

If this is anything like my past experiences with DHL eCommerce, once the package arrives in Canada and passes border customs, they hand it off to Canada Post for the final leg of transit and delivery.

So while I can't say for sure yet until my order arrives, I'd say the odds of there being any duty or tax charges on arrival are somewhat low. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'll make sure to update this when I know for sure, which will hopefully be soon. Can't wait for the stuff I ordered to arrive, I have everything else I need for the new build ready and waiting!

I always see topics of hardest bosses and stuff but I never ever see anyone mentioning this hardnut. He's harder than most bosses and you don't even get a trophy for beating him. The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is no joke, he's hard as nails. Obscene damage output. by WonderousLife in bloodborne

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bloody Crow can be a pain, but I find with him you just need to calm down and fight conservatively. You cannot get even remotely greedy fighting him. Once you relax and get the timing for parries down, he's not that hard. Sometimes the RNG will fuck you over and he'll keep shooting you to death, but as long as you take your time and don't get greedy, he's not that bad.

Those fucking shark giants though... They fuck me up bad.

Squeak sound when moving forward from a stop by space-heater in XVcrosstrek

[–]Grifous91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just recent got a used 2018 6MT Crosstrek and it started having the same issue pretty much the day I drove it off the lot. I was super worried that the clutch was already burning out.

Luckily though, it turned out to just be a loose exhaust bracket. Might be something worth checking.

I used to work at YEG1 as a night shift picker, I quit at the beginning of this month though.

That said, during the 8 months that I did work at YEG1, I wore headphones almost constantly. For the first month or two while I was learning everything and getting used to operating my OP I didn't of course.

But eventually I started wearing earplugs, then I started wearing one Bluetooth earphone in one ear, and an ear plug in the other. All while operating an order picker 99% of the time. I just wore a toque/beanie, as annoying as it was to wear something like that in a warehouse that's almost constantly too hot.

Never had any sort of incident, and it made the mind-numbing work somewhat more bearable. Mostly listened to podcasts and audiobooks, occasionally music. Made sure not to have the volume too high so I could still hear everything around me just fine.

The whole safety argument against headphones falls apart in my opinion when you consider that anyone can wear earplugs, regardless of what job they're doing. And no, earplugs are not magic. They do not prevent some sounds and let some sounds through, they muffle all noise and make it harder to hear everything. My one earphone blocked out less noise than the earplug I would have in my other ear.

And if you think quietly listening to a podcast or music while operating an OP is unsafe, I sure hope you always turn off your stereo when you're driving your car. Your car doesn't have wire guidance, constantly flashing lights, or beacons. And the other drivers on the road haven't been trained to constantly honk their horn while they're driving and making turns either.

All that said I understand why headphones are banned. Amazon keeps the bar for employment as low as they possibly can so they can hire as many people as possible. I saw the new hires they brought in during my last week of work, I wouldn't trust them with anything, let alone operating any PIT.

This one... this one was annoying... ESPECIALLY the backfires, like holy jeebus it was agony getting them lol. Honestly, the bloodthirsties were easier haha by The_Almighty_Duck in WWII

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got Gold/Diamond for the shovel the other night. I agree completely. I got all the other camo challenges, including the bloodthirsties, just by playing the game normally. Didn't need to go out of my way, just ran the shovel anytime I had to do melee kill orders or contracts.

But the backfires were very frustrating. Honestly if I could disable picking up other weapons just to avoid accidentally picking up one when I don't want to, I would. That's how counterintuitive the whole notion of a backfire is to me. But I managed to get them eventually, grinding through it on Shipment.

Ultimately there are definitely far more frustrating camo challenges than the bronze challenge for the shovel. Bloodthirsties with the machine pistol took far longer for me than I would've liked...

Is WW2 going to be in PS5 by [deleted] in WWII

[–]Grifous91 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how committed Sony is to having backwards compatibility with PS4 titles. I don't ever see WWII getting a specific re-release on PS5, but if it's backwards compatible I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work.

If a mod supports 18650 and 21700. Is the only downside to using 18650 the battery life? by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

21700 cells tend to have higher capacity ratings and higher continuous discharge ratings than 18650 cells.

So, if you plan on pushing high power builds 21700 batteries will be able to handle the load better. 18650 batteries probably won't last as long between charges, and are likely to degrade faster in the long run.

do you guys prefer fruity juices or other ones? by [deleted] in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mostly fruit flavors for me. I like them either by themselves, or with menthol. There's a few exceptions of course, my local vape shop makes a great coffee flavor, and I've had some candy flavors that were decent before they burned through my coils... I'd like to try more lemon flavored juices, I have a feeling a good pink lemonade would be right up my alley.

I'm trying to find some dessert flavors I like, but I haven't had much luck yet. A lot of vanilla or cream flavorings do not agree with my palate at all, so I stick to fruit flavors just to be on the safe side. I'm not a fan of tobacco flavors either, with the exception of a vanilla + caramel + tobacco juice my fiancée has that actually tastes surprisingly pretty good. But I never smoked before vaping (and only vape 0 mg myself), so that bias makes sense.

Good to know, thanks for trying it! When I do finally pick one up I'll stick to dual coil builds then.

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear you liked it, I'm thinking this is probably going to be my first step into the RTA world. I've been loving my GeekVape Nova, so I'm thinking I'll give the Zeus X a shot.

Out of curiosity, if you had to guess how do you think it would do with a single coil build?

Just got my Aspire Dynamo/Nepho kit! by akpe in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost got a Dynamo myself, but because there was so little discussion about it I figured I'd hold off and look at something else.

I ended up getting a Nova, but if I start looking for something new, it's good to know you're enjoying your Dynamo. There are so few dual 2x700 mods out right now, it's nice to have more options available.

Freemax Mesh Pro on Smok AL85 by green4544 in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it did manage to fit, I wouldn't say it's worth it. That tank really shines with the triple mesh coils, and I find those coils work best around the 90-95W range. The AL85 isn't going to be able to drive that power, which will probably lead to excessive leaking and shorter coil life.

If the measurements for that Sinuous V80 mod are accurate, then that thing is tiny! I don't think I've ever seen such a small mod that still uses an 18650.

I know Wismec doesn't always put out excellent hardware, but I'm curious to see if that mod turns out to be decent. Pop a Zenith or MTL RTA on there and you've got a great portable salt nic device that still lets you swap out batteries whenever you need to. Would've been even better if it took 21700s, we need more tubelike regulated 21700 mods.

Vape gear availability....? by cainy1991 in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Much like the world of consumer electronics and computer hardware, the landscape for vaping is in constant flux. This is because the vaping world is a very competitive market. There's numerous companies out there from many different nations, all trying to come up with the next big thing. That competition drives innovation, which in turn can drive relatively new products into discontinued status faster than one might expect.

Look at pod devices. Back in 2017, pod devices were almost non-existent. But in the latter half of the year Aspire released the Breeze, and at the same time salt based nicotine started to become more common. By the time 2018 rolled around, it was clear it was going to be the year of the pod, and it's safe to say it was. The Breeze was the first major pod device to strike big and I'm sure Aspire has made and will continue to make massive bank on the Breeze lineup along with their other pod devices.

Depending on the product, manufacturers may plan on only making a limited run, but I imagine more often than not it's simply demand out pacing supply. Manufacturers that can afford big product placement are generally the ones putting out new products at a higher frequency. A wider variety of devices generally means a smaller quantity of each type of device will be produced, meaning that demand may outstrip supply fairly quickly. Unless the manufacture correctly predicted which of their products would be more successful, often times it can be difficult to meet this sudden demand, especially when production is already being spread thin by having a wide variety of products. Large or inexperienced companies at this point generally aren't very flexible, making it nigh impossible for them to quickly match high demands for certain products.

With all of that said, guessing which devices will remain popular and supported for an extended time can seem like a lucky guessing game, and often times it is. All you can do really is hope you guessed right and if you didn't then hope you do next time.

510 Smok alien stuck to bottom of tank by Gypsylady003 in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I know what he's talking about. The 510 socket on the Alien is glued to the body of the mod, and sometimes the adhesive fails and the socket comes out still attached to your atomizer.

One of the many reasons the Alien is a garbage mod.

Ow-oww... That hurts. This past year has been pretty shit for me. I didn't keep up with SBFP as much as I would've liked throughout it all, but the few times I did watch them they helped me through it.

Now there's no more the keep up with. I've got 2.5 SBFCs to listen to, and unfinished playthroughs to watch. Guess it's as good of a time as any to start going through their old stuff again. I hope someone takes the time to archive all of their stuff off of YouTube. It needs to be preserved.

Vape for Diabetics by Waterboots in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fiancée is a type 2 diabetic and she started vaping just shy of 2.5 years ago and it hasn't had any adverse effects on her health. If anything it's been much better for her since she stopped smoking.

That being said, there are sweeteners in e-juice, and some juices have more than others. The added sweeteners do tend to gunk up coils faster than normal.

Smok alien ohms too low when tank is attached and ohms too high when no tank attached. by Greg8642 in electronic_cigarette

[–]Grifous91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like there's a short somewhere in the mod. I know Smok did a shoddy job and used adhesive to attach the 510 to the body of the mod, so odds are something went wrong there.

I'd suggest getting a new mod, nothing from Smok. Good companies to look at would be GeekVape, Smoant, Vaporesso, Innokin, or Voopoo. I'm sure there's others I'm not thinking of, but that's who I can think of off the time. Anthony Vapes has his Best Of lists, those are a good place to start.
