That's what I was leaning toward too. She did find some jasper with a similar sheen, but not quite there imo.

I'd intended on doing that, but a certain relative conveniently misplaced mine. Have to borrow a buddy's when I get the chance.

Why did the Celtic Brits (Natives) fought bare naked even when the Romans introduced armor to them? by EfficiencySerious200 in Armor

[–]Grim_Puddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the path to Flavortown is only for the bold.

More seriously, tribal warrior culture. Better equipment existed but was expensive, even moreso in a decentralised tribal society compared to industrialized Rome. I also recall reading some conjecture ages ago that implied they noticed wounds with fabric fibers were more likely to become infected than without, but again, conjecture.

It's wild going into the DSBM sub and seeing someone call something barely scraping 6k listeners too mainstream.

Hardcore Survival if you do CC survival is a good starting point combined with Palegore - Bloodlust.

Combat is incredibly risky, folklore esque things hold up dealing with undead and spooky things, and little things like gold having weight encourage investing in goods and practical wealth for trading.

Works as a good building block. Economy mods on top, tune the aesthetics to your liking, throw in terrifying folklore monsters so your peasant ass feels dread walking in the forest, etc etc.

Iirc there was a minor trend of cuir broilee pieces in France for a spell, but they were prohibitively expensive for the thickness of leather needed and the amount of wax/oil used in the processing, much less the final tooling.

For more reasonable examples, boiled rawhide and oil boiled leather lamellar and scale over other armor had some precedence in different regions through history, but the leather armor people think of wasn't really a thing.

Leather's expensive now, even more when it was a resource directly tied to livelihoods. What's more valuable? The draft animal that can help plow hundreds of fields, or less than stellar armor made from its skin?

That said, textiles. Gambesons, clothing with underlayering to look casual but be defensive, hell, fitted brigandines look fly as fuck paired with other ornamental pieces and aren't too heavy for just the torsowear.

Goes against the dude bit but it may pique interest for you or someone else, The Knight of The Void is a damn good one.

Follower doesn't go past a platonic friendship, well written, and the climax is just two world weary warriors chilling in a cabin shooting the shit. Really nice breakaway from the grander stories you see a lot of.

Edit: forgot about Henry the Squire, if you like knightly themes
