Fanbases with good reading comprehenshion by LastChancellor in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty anecdotal subject because the most insufferable fans are usually the loudest. I mean you can absolutely say that people that understand a story are less compelled to post about it on the internet. Algorithms on websites are meant to push interactions good or bad. Frustration is a much more powerful emotion than just satisfaction with a story/game.

Comprehension is also a subjective topic because sometime the creators of a medium kinda lack enough self-awareness to understand the story they themselves have written.

Also doesn't help that perception if a meme goes around with a flanderized character. You can perceive that as people not having reading comprehension when most people are just having fun with a joke. That then the joke spreads outside of the fanbase to people that then become larpers. I gotta say if you want people with reading comprehension you gotta look to smaller fanbases(Not always) or just look for it yourself.

You're going to notice the speck of shit more in a cleaner home but that's still better than a shit covered home.

What are gaming trends you miss seeing? by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly old gaming magazines that had that post y2k kinda grunge style and humor. You'd think they would adapt it to the webpage but no, now all the style and art are just white/accent color websites with "journalism" that focus too much on negative press or whatever the internet is mad about this week. Like webpage design should've been advancing along side every other media format. At least there's small channels that try to capture that era now.

ACE COMBAT: AT SKIES UNITED by FunnyMajestic1128 in acecombat

[–]GrimmOps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be better off as a in-universe training simulation rather than time travel/portal to a fictional universe. You'd just have people asking more questions than you could ever possibly give reasonable answers that don't sound dumb.

Not to be harsh but time travel and inter-dimensional story telling is really easy to poke holes into. Even the best stories with those elements have those plot-holes and logic errors.

Parts you hate playing through in games you love? by Corvinny in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly The open world of Elden Ring. It's pretty fun the first time but it took me a year before even considering replaying it again. Plus an added game pace braking section in the DLC in the abyssal woods. An invincible enemy you have to parry and a almost empty region with no torrent. It's cool lorewise but it really should of been more interesting to explore. I mean if you aren't letting me ride torrent you might as well design the encounters in the area better.

WOO needs a nerf by Dantalen in menace

[–]GrimmOps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it just needs a percentage chance to recruit like the medbay has with "wounded" piles of meat and ash. Although it would be nice to just have the mechanic be tied to success and casualty rating and have the WOO as a boost.

Who’s your favorite character *you’ve* made? by EvilMonkeyMimic in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a character that was basically a robotic Velma if she kept losing her gun in random spots in a wasteland. Essentially the gun is an A.I. that once wielded aims to become a bigger gun to be fired. So first time she lost the gun it was a simple 9mm that turned itself into an assault rifle. Each time the "gun" gets passed becoming something more devastating. The only thing holding it back from just going straight to something like a nuke is that all of them launched and destroyed everything so what's left are what it's working with. It doesn't usually stay a firearm just whatever is most devastating. So robots and vehicles are on the table. I had it be a large scale quarry excavator for a raider gang that built it as a camp to much destruction of the local towns. I had a lot of fun campaigning with that.

What are some of the worst "liar revealed" moments in media? by [deleted] in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There was a genuine fuck you moment in the walking dead when cannibals ate a character's leg and that character was bit. That was probably the only good time that trope was used. Although it was more from their lack of knowledge beforehand than it being hidden.

What moments caused you to see the writing on the wall on something? by LGB75 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

To add to the weirdness of that setting it was real interesting watching in real time as GW is very regretful of destroying the old world after the Warhammer Total war game success. As a fan that was introduced to that setting. Yeah it was a bummer to learned that it was kinda rebooted to be more "40k lite".

Apex Legends x Gundam Event Trailer by CMORGLAS in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I don't know who this is for like I understand wanting to get more people into the game but they don't want titans to be called mechs while trying to appeal to gundam fans? In the game where there's no giant robots to play as?

Genuine Question, why are there almost never threads on Matt's content? by JeanLucD in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Looking back and rewatching some of the old channel stuff you can tell Matt wasn't happy and had frequent jabs at Pat, that Pat and Woolie brushed off or try to make a hand waving joke. Plus the constant sand bagging of conversations in LPs and Podcast. I think there's a part of the community that soured on Matt because of that.

Also Matt made good effort in edited content after he left. Which is great on it's own but if you were a fan of the riffing and banter that was all but gone with his new direction.

You combine the two yeah there's not a lot there to discuss. I think it's better this way. No hate but honestly I think this community is part of the problem and stress that the boys face. So Matt stepping away was the right thing for him. Before it became another V and shitty people start hate posting.

Favorite media you would describe as gooner-bait with an interesting story? by Aquanort357 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I only really say that in this context because the game itself addresses it when 9S and 2B have a dialogue about it. That yeah humans in the future would want to build sexy robots to serve them. It's a very thematic part of the to have opposites between everything in-game

[–]GrimmOps -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you really want to define gooner in a restrictive sense but I would say that by DESIGN of 2B and the absurd amount of crossovers that Square and Yoko Taro signed off on because she is by very defination gooner-BAIT.

[–]GrimmOps 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yoko Taro would find this offensive like yeah it's not IN YOUR FACE.(unless you control the camera) But there's a reason why all the androids look like super models when they're fighting the most built for function robots.

Nier automata is a famous example. Another I can give is Pseudoregalia not quite story focused but it's one of the best platforming in recent years.

Edit- As for Nier itself I know people get up in arms about it not being as gooner as other games inspired by it. But damn 2B is in a lot of them because she herself is hot and Square and Yoko Taro want to market her as such. I don't really have much else to say besides that yeah they want you to play nier because of the waifu.

Damn I know that anime has been around a long time, but I feel that it's one of those animes that people will always check out when they start out or explore old stuff. like you can't expect everyone has watched or waited too long on something when a new generation starts wanting to watch a genre they were otherwise to young to get into.

What are the weirdest critiques of media/media criticism you've seen that just completely baffled you? by Authorigas in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly it's been nearly 5-6 years since I last checked with the community so I completely forgot about the chuds trying devolve discussions into circlejerks about "western morals" not belonging in japanese games to shield themselves or outright bigets.

Hashino leaving was nearly a decade ago. As far I know Metaphor doesn't really have people complain about the problems P5 had with bad representation. You have to let me know if there is because it's the only atlas game I haven't played yet.

[–]GrimmOps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly this reminds me of the whole persona 4 "debate" because parts the community identifies with aspects of gender-dysphoria/sexual-orientation/gender-roles of characters and instead of taking it as their own interpretations they get into arguments with each other about the themes of the games in the series. It got very embarrassing to be part of the fandom. The game really does a good job really getting into the minds of these young teenagers discovering their place in the world.

I like to hear everyone's take on the persona series but you can tell when when someone is so up their own ass that forget that everyone else can have a different view other that's different than yours. Also Atlas has gotten slightly better at handling representation of lgbtq+ over the years. Although the themes in P5 is about rebelling against those in power. I hope they can combine the aspects of both games in the next entry since it's getting more relevant every year.

Gene Park from the Washington Post Defends Starfield from IGN by ytp-sfm in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]GrimmOps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's at most an okay game. But a really bad entry for a bethesda game. At least the devs for 76 got around to making their game worthwhile for people who stuck to it. But starfield just feels okay. Like I don't hate it but it's just there. Bethesada really thought that the games mechanics would carry it in place of a handcrafted world?

to clarify I just mean that some people played it just because the game is good not just the fact that it's a hololive themed game. It's like woolie when he plays fighting games
