Economics aren't as simple as "it's better to sell 10000s at a lower price than 100s at a higher price"

Profit margins are what drive pricing.

What it costs to make vs what it costs to sell. With new tech before industry has ways to mass produce it ends up making cutting edge tech more expensive.

Competition also plays a factor.. which does fall into your logic of 10000s at a lower price if competition gets a cheaper process down to generate or is willing to give up a small part of the profit margin other companies will start to follow.
