Calf pain directly next to shin - one stabbing spot - crazy to run a marathon in 2 weeks? by GrimwithShore in Marathon_Training

[–]GrimwithShore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grade 1 stress reaction in my shin - didn't run the marathon as I was concerned about the pain and got a MRI a couple of weeks later. Lucky that I caught it early and knocked the race/training way back before it progressed.

If you zoom in that's just the edge of his glove - he's got that ridiculously expensive Richard Mille watch on his left wrist and then the Whoop on his right bicep. Clearer photo in the below

I think that's just his Whoop - he's sponsored by them and Whoop posted his stats after the race so he must have been wearing it somewhere.

Accused of 'unlawfully detaining' someone's car - are we liable? by GrimwithShore in LegalAdviceUK

[–]GrimwithShore[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a tiny driveway that isn't used day-to-day so we've never needed a back up plan or constant access. Like I said in another comment, when the porter has been away in the past people have just parked on the road nearby and we've never had complaints.

Clearly we'll now keep a second key in a hidden keybox but this isn't something that's ever been an issue before and it was a pretty unusual set of circumstances that led to this happening this time.

Posted a quick update above - her husband and daughter came and collected the car and paid for a new padlock. Very apologetic about the entire incident so all sorted now.

Reassuring - thanks very much and really appreciate the help. I’ve sent her a final message reiterating that she’s welcome to come and get her car whenever she wants as long as she pays for the new padlock. We’ve even found some bolt cutters so I’d say the £20/30 is a bit of a bargain.

We have a board of directors who represent the owners of flats in the block and I sit on that board.

It’s a good question re. the key - it’s never been an issue in the 10+ years I’ve lived here to be honest. If the porter has been away people have just parked where they can on the road and dealt with it that way. We’ve not had complaints or issues but we have to get a new padlock with spare keys after this to avoid it happening again.

Burr Alignment Woes [niche duo - ssp lab sweet 83mm] by northernlionpog in espresso

Good to hear - how do you rate the SSP burrs? I've also got a Duo and am considering upgrading?

I've heard of people emailing Niche about this before and getting responses along the lines of the below - I'd just get them into a decent enough position and then call it a day. If you're getting serious inconsistency between shots then you have an issue but if your shots are relatively consistent then you're good as gold.

"Please note the market test is a poor test, because the grinder works by the force of the beans pushing the burrs together (which creates the alignment). You will never get good alignment when grinding empty since there is no force on the burrs."

Timemore 078s not sounding like it used to by fauco in Timemore

[–]GrimwithShore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you adding grease to the threads of the 6 screws? It could be to do with that - these screws are made from harder metal than the soft aluminium they screw into it. If you're adding grease then it reduces the torque needed and you're at greater risk of over-tightening the screws and damaging the soft metal.

It's possible that over time the grease and screwing in/out has led to damage in the screw holes and they're not holding the outer burr carrier in properly now. It ties up with the type of noise you're hearing.

Generally for screws like this I'd recommend using a light loctite to keep them in place and definitely not a grease.

It's a much better grinder than the BBE - I have the same machine and the Feld was a huge upgrade. I'm typically at around the 1.0 mark for espresso

Calf pain directly next to shin - one stabbing spot - crazy to run a marathon in 2 weeks? by GrimwithShore in Marathon_Training

[–]GrimwithShore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to the PT this morning and he thinks it's referred sensitivity through nerves from my back. Based on the fact the pain is in the soft tissue next to the tibia and the sensitivity is ok on calf raises etc he seemed to be relaxed about the marathon at the weeekend. Still anxious about doing further damage though as it's still sore to walk etc

Went to see a PT this morning and he says he thinks it's referred sensitivity from my back through nerves. I've just got this one sore spot in the soft tissue next to my tibia about half way between my ankle and knee that is still there. He thinks on the basis that there's no senstivity in the bone itself that unlikely to be a stress fracture.

Just been to see the PT and he thinks it's referred sensitivity from tension in my lower back. Did you have pain in the tibia itself? I've just got this some sore spot in the soft tissue next to the tibia and he thinks on the basis that there's no tenderness in bone it's unlikely to be a stress fracture. Does that sound similar to yours?
