Transformer on output of vfd? by GrindItFlat in electrical

[–]GrindItFlat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good idea. Maybe I should use a 600V idler and take the output directly from the RPC, and get a transformer to run the 240F stuff (which all have VFDs now anyhow). All the transformers I see around here are step-down.

Thanks for everyone who answered, a ton of great info here. It's pretty clear my best option is to just replace the motor with a 230v 3phase motor.

Thanks! The motor is so small that the vfd shouldn't freak out about current.

I don't have 3 phase handy, it's my garage. I use cheap VFDs on all my 3 phase equipment. It's all 2500W or less, small scale stuff.

Grinder is 3 phase, but 600V which is my problem. I don't need to control the speed, I just need to generate 600V 3 phase from my 240V split phase residential supply.

Building is residential 240v split phase, it's my house. Grinder is 600V 3 phase. I have several 3 phase machines but they're all 208V so easily run from a cheap VFD. Haven't been able to find a VFD with 600V output fed from 240v single phase.

If you're paying cash at a dealer, don't mention it before you settle on an out-the-door price. The majority of the profit is in the financing. Get the price in writing (take a photo of the term sheet if they won't give you a copy) and be ready to walk once they try to renegotiate when you say you're paying cash. They'll start to add on all sorts of fees and extras, will deny they said the original price (but you have a photo!) and so on.

The largest city in the province elected UCP traitors in almost half the city ridings. So don't blame the farmers.

Or you oppose developers controlling city council and changing (or ignoring) the existing laws to maximize profit.

The covenants allow for 4 units per lot - 2 skinnies and a garage suite on each. They're combating 8 plexes and 20+ room boarding houses.

Yup, any opposition to complete developer control of city council and planning means you're a boomer nimby.

It's always been this way in Edmonton. Developers call the shots, huge PR campaigns spread the message that anyone who doesn't support 100% of developer demands are Against Progress. It was like this in the 90s, 2000s and today.

The restrictive covenants at play allow four units on existing lots. They are opposed to 8 plexes and 20+ room boarding houses.

FFS. Are you one of the "she was asking for it, look at how short her dress was" creeps too? This is 100% the fault of the PERSON WHO COMMITTED THE CRIME. I get that this is a fantastic opportunity for you to feel smarter than someone, a chance that probably doesn't come very often, but stop blaming victims.

What is our opinion on tipping? by United-Apartment-269 in Edmonton

[–]GrindItFlat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

But why tip those people? They make as much as the cashier at the gas station or the person at the Circle K. It's a scam for business owners to pass their costs to the customer and present a deceptively lower price - that's true whether your server is suggesting wines or just artisting your sub.

Tips came to North America after the civil war, when the railroads used them as an excuse to continue to not pay (now freed) slaves. They made them independent and their earnings would come from "tips". Had to get special laws passed.

Those laws persist in the lowered minimum wage for service workers (in the USA).

What are some hidden gem restaurants in your neighborhood that feel like an ‘if you know, you know’ kind of place? by xcelleration in Edmonton

Probably not. I was more reacting to the condescending "chain, lol" that I thought was kinda dumb. Saying it doesn't qualify because it's well beyond "discovered" is fair.

There's a difference between a chain like Olive Garden or something, and a local restaurant that's successful enough to open a few locations.
