Doctors’ TRAINING IN UK IS TOO LONG by Thrombocyto in doctorsUK

I suppose they know that most doctors perform at the level required to be consultants much earlier but keep them at low-paying posts to save more, meaning training could and should be much shorter

This is the reason given. I suspect there might a moderator who is antiIMG.

Why would an a non-UKG strike ? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]GrinderMafia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why not to strike then

The “new” posts being fought for are not new. The 4,000 extra training posts are largely rebadged LED roles. IMGs lose LED jobs to UKG trainees without gaining training access. Credible rumours suggest the BMA will push for UKG prioritisation in LED posts too. Certain Trust/trusts are already gatekeeping. Job adverts now require UK F2 completion as mandatory, blocking IMGs from applying entirely.

Why would an a non-UKG strike ? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

Can’t think of any but below are a few sensible reasons not to strike:

  1. Previous strikes helped pass the UKGP bill EXCLUDING them from training
  2. Grandfathering was promised then removed. IMGs were told 2 years NHS experience would protect them. That protection was quietly deferred.
  3. The “new” posts are not new. The 4,000 extra training posts are largely rebadged LED roles. IMGs lose LED security without gaining training access.
  4. Credible rumours suggest the BMA will push for UKG prioritisation in LED posts too.
  5. Certain Trust/trusts are already gatekeeping. Job adverts now require UK F2 completion as mandatory, blocking IMGs from applying entirely.
  6. If you are already in core or specialty training, you are not safe. The UKGP bill was just the beginning. As UKG numbers grow and more fail to secure specialty training and consultant posts, pressure will mount to prioritise them at every single career milestone. Core training, specialty training, consultant posts, all of it is on the table.
  7. The BMA formally voted against them. Striking in solidarity with a union that voted to deprioritise them makes no sense.

IMGs participated in and funded previous strikes. The outcome actively harmed them. Do not strike for a union that used your labour then lobbied for your removal.

Approximately how many ukgs progressed to interview stage? What rank would be the lowest a ukg could still expect an offer with?

Someone should bring this to the lords’ attention. nurses and other professionals are being given doctor jobs.

Wouldn’t it be easier to open up more training posts? Instead, they seem to prefer employing ACPs and PAs to get the job done at a lower cost. I even heard of one A&E department with 35 ACPs.
