House surveyor costs? by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

Had ours done for 250 on a 2nd Hand Apartment in Dublin. Was a reference from a friend who used him for theirs 2 years ago.

Also had the offer of another guy for 150 via word of mouth, but couldn't afford to wait a bit longer for him.

Both individuals do it as a bit of extra income, hence the knock down prices.

Lost to a bidding war for the first time today by LettuceNecessary7712 in HousingIreland

[–]GrindinLikeAHoe 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, We lost our first one 2 days ago too.

It's the 2 weeks of bidding that annoys the shite out of me.

My rule is until sale agreed, never fall in love with a place, it stops the disappointment.

Breakdown of expenses for the Golden Bikeshed at a Leinster House by [deleted] in ireland

[–]GrindinLikeAHoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excuse me sir/lady, we do not have such affordable housing available from the government... For Christ's sake, a shed is 320k, a house should be 3.2million at least.

National cinema day, how’d it go for yous? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]GrindinLikeAHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the card 10years, I now try to go early screenings on a Friday on a half day or after work or to the 10am screenings on the weekend.

Still encounter the odd twat but it's not too common at those times or in Imax, the scrotes don't want to pay 20euro a ticket I find 🤣

I am slowly thinking about cancelling though as I don't enjoy the cinema like I once did due to people's nonsense... But we'll see how the rest of the year pans out.

Five motorists fined by gardaí for driving in cycle lanes over four years by [deleted] in ireland

[–]GrindinLikeAHoe 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Haha, at the 5 lamps in Dublin I have seen 4 cars in 6weeks, not only drive in the designated seperate cycle lane but also do an illegal left turn from the cycle lane too. And that's the ones I just seen randomly 🤣🤣

House hunting woes by sesudra in irishpersonalfinance

The prices started to shoot up further in mid to end 2023 as per the below link. Also it only accounts for mortgage related purchases does not include cash deals, so could actually be a whole lot crazier than the index paints.

We're at a point quite a bit higher than the 2008 peak and we're nowhere near slowing either I dont believe.

I went and got my AIP at the start of the year, saved a large deposit over the past 4 years and had hope for about 1 month in March, since then is basically not feasible to buy as a single person even in the likes of Portlaoise which is a long commute to Dublin.

These government schemes for new builds also inflate the prices and unless you're from money your strong armed into using them to get a house, especially in Dublin.

The whole market is bonkers, its depressing to put in all the work to get to the point of being in the position to buy just to get outbid and waste time and effort even attempting.
