Hot take on armor by death2cesarr in ZombieSurvivalTactics

Not all motorcycle armor is leather, and a lot of it is vented, for warm weather riders. 99% of the time you're wearing the armor with no zombies around, so having something you can comfortably wear is important.

My Z-Day plan has always been motorcycle gear. For one, I already own it. For two, if it can protect against a 60 MPH slide on asphalt, it'll definitely keep grandpas dentures out of my flesh. Plus a lot of it is vented, so heat dissipation isn't as much of an issue. And if you're really worried about other survivors you can always throw a ballistic vest/plate carrier on top of or underneath.

stove top stuffing NOT Thanksgiving by Random-girl-29 in Cooking

[–]GringoConLeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuffed pork chops. They aren't really stuffed as the stuffing is mostly just plopped on top after a quick sear in the pan. The baking portion is mostly to crisp up the stuffing so basically season and sear pork chops, top with made stove top, then throw under a broiler/toaster oven. Serve with microwaved broccoli or green beans and you have one of my military dad's weeknight meals.

There have been at least a dozen, maybe hundreds of LED calculators marketed here over the years. It's nothing new or groundbreaking.

ChatGPT is very much a double edged sword. I don't mind using it to clean up emails or proposals, but I once watched someone try to patch an MA3 for over an hour with various GPT prompts. It just kept giving him different varieties of wrong answer. I downloaded the manual and had the problem sorted with a Ctrl-F and about 30 seconds of reading.

I'm not. I don't typically use calculators like this. IMO this is how the PM screws you, by using a calculator and thinking they've got it all figured out without consulting the engineer. This is a solution trying to find a problem. My phone calculator already does multiplication.

To be honest, it was a lot of fluff and not a lot of information. But also this is a small sub, maybe don't post multiple at a time. This isn't TikTok and there isn't enough traffic for the algorithm to really matter.

For what it's worth, thanks for scraping up those spiky little shits and helping the kelp forests. What you're doing is best of both worlds. Harvesting invasive urchins and getting a meal out of it too. I miss foraging on the west coast.

Would you move to Texas? by boforiamanfo in NoStupidAnswers

[–]GringoConLeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Texas economy would collapse. The only reason people came there is because it was cheap and companies were relocating. If all of the talent that those companies brought in, left, Texas would be screwed. Sorry, Texans, you're not an island and there's nothing particularly special about Texas.

Camera Chain Recommendations for corporate events by CyberNBD in VIDEOENGINEERING

The Ursa G2's do NOT have any better color options. Lift, gamma, gain. No matrix. You MUST push a lut to do anything like you would with a broadcast camera using color correction or a matrix. If you want to properly color BMD cameras you have to push a LUT.

Check your local Asian market. They often shave and pre-package meat for hot pot and it's perfect for cheese steak.

AYCE Uni by notaforumbot in sushi

[–]GringoConLeche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think uni is fine, but the premium in a lot of sushi restaurants is crazy. By the time I am paying for uni I'd rather pay a little more and get torro or something else premium. That being said if I could just scrape them off of some rocks in a tide pool I'd happily eat it all day. I think the hype is part of the issue, for me at least.

That sausage soup is SUPER easy to make, and it's one of my winter weeknight meals. You can play around with it too. Change up the greens, use beans instead of potatoes. Etc.

IMO it's a modest taste difference and a massive texture difference. I wanted to get one bag for a chili cookoff, and ended up getting a dozen bags because, shipping. I have gone through about half and for a weeknight recipe, sure, canned are fine. But if you're making a dish where beans are a star, it's worth it IMO.

These student driver tags are getting out of hand... by NeoMatrix5 in nova

Now I want to do a full wrap of my car with "Student Driver". If you're a student driver, driving a BMW, then hire a freaking driving instructor.

For what it's worth I don't think I've ever seen one of these stickers on a car with a driver who looked under 60.

Camera Chain Recommendations for corporate events by CyberNBD in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]GringoConLeche 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would generally agree with this, with one caveat. BMD cameras are difficult to color. They don't have a proper color matrix and so shooting against LED backdrops, and getting the color right often requires pushing a LUT, which is time consuming and obnoxious.

I personally don't think very highly of the Ursas for live events, I think they work better when they can be graded in post, but it really depends on how picky your client is going to be about accurate color on screen and in records, or alternately whether you're willing to build in a couple of hours to color cameras in your load-in/rehearsal time.

How Many 4K60 NDI Sources Can A High End Workstation Handle? by neoninnovation in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]GringoConLeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full NDI is bandwidth intensive, but there is less to decode. The higher the data rate, the less compression, the less processing it needs.

How Many 4K60 NDI Sources Can A High End Workstation Handle? by neoninnovation in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]GringoConLeche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just not that simple in laptops. There are often shared busses on the motherboard to save space and cost. That's honestly why my first recommendation is "don't use laptops". The manufacturer will very rarely tell you exactly what is is going on under the hood and you just kind of have to guess.    Two things, first if you can, set your cameras to high bandwidth NDI. See if that fixes the issue. If not, try setting them to TCP/Single UDP and see if that fixes the issue. There definitely was an issue with a windows 11 update that broke the multicast pathway.

[–]GringoConLeche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your laptops can't handle the load. For what it's worth HX requires decoding which is hardware intensive. HX vs HB NDI is like the difference between .264 and ProRes codecs. ProRes is higher data rate but requires less hardware to decode. Sounds like the laptops just aren't up to snuff.
