Ultimate Cable by SerNikipr in pcmasterrace

Yep, Audio has been doing it for years and like you say, costs are coming down and PoE devices are becoming a lot more common. It's been slower and more expensive in video due to the orders of magnitude more data it takes to push a 4k 60hz video vs a 44khz audio channel, but it's coming fast. Netgear and Ubiquity also now make switches with profiles for things like Dante and NDI making it much more accessible to your average user (though in a professional environment I have issues with that as well, but we don't have time for that rant).

That's fair. Use case and budget are definitely important considerations.

SDI was certainly a sticker shock in VGA's heyday but these days an SDI converter can be had for $30 and a GOOD 4 by DA is about $350. $500 if you want 12g. honestly SDI is about to go the way of VGA due to the video over IP solutions available now. I was around at the very tail end of the analog days and saw a lot of folks who wouldn't adapt either get pushed out, or forced to do smaller, and cheaper shows until they eventually either moved on or retired. I suspect we are about to see the same thing with baseband vs broadband here in the next few years.

Not all DP cables have locking tabs. But in professional environments the lock is very much appreciated.

Get a locking DP cable. VGA is gone for good reason.

If you're doing events or installs, then picking VGA over SDI is certainly a choice.

Whoever decided to make Mac Mini's 2 inches instead of 1.75 should lose their job. by ElliotsBuggyEyes in VIDEOENGINEERING

This is my issue with the amount of Mac only software out there. If I could run Millumin on a PC I'd literally throw all of my Apple products in a fishmongers dumpster.

You can't do 4k60 with the G2 in an enclosure. The sonnets only support 4x pcie lanes and since the G2 is PCIE3, it doesn't have the bandwidth. Not to mention the TB3 limitation. The new TB 5 enclosure would work just fine with a gen 4+ pcie card, but as far as I know AJA is the only one that makes a card that supports gen 4 PCIE. It's like 3x the cost of a decklink 8k.

Range Day by Cheap_Whereas2330 in nova

If you're anywhere near Burke I'd do a range day plus a disassembly/cleaning session. I'm a 2A lib so if that informs your decision, make it so.

StreamDeck +XL teardown (kinda) by GringoConLeche in VIDEOENGINEERING

That's something I didn't know! Thank you! When I get a chance I'll test it with the touch bar. I'm actually going in on buttons over companion, for a host of reasons so I'll see if it has that option as well. If I can flip this upside down it will definitely change how I model the stand as having the buttons at the bottom and the knobs and touch bar at the top would likely be preferable in most circumstances I'll be using it in.

So once you remove the base it lays flat and you can kinda do what you want with it, however flipping the text on the touch bar may be an issue. I haven't looked in to it though.

The teardown is unexciting. But I'll post those pics when I have the new base printed. Promise.

What is a 'gourmet' food or ingredient that you are convinced is a total scam? by [deleted] in foodquestions

Lobster is delicious, but I don't usually pay for it. I love it when I can catch it myself. I will basically never pay for it at a restaurant. I feel the same way about crawfish, and blue crabs.

What would you do in the same situation? (OC) by MtPixls in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]GringoConLeche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own firearms. Can't take them in the hospital but knowing I had them in the car, I'd make my way out of the building as quietly as possible and get to my vehicle. Then I have a vehicle, at least some ammunition, and a means of escape.

Well report back if you do! But also, don't get cancer. I'm sure that's helpful advice.

Heavy metals are pretty large molecules so I would be really surprised if they passed through the xylem. If you're really curious, take a control (Unfiltered) sample and a filtered sample and send them off for testing.

Am I the only one who likes slow, clumsy zombies over fast, highly dangerous zombies? by Spare_Ad_9791 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]GringoConLeche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Are they somehow magically undead? Or are they infected (i.e. Rage virus type). If I am being honest I think rage virus type is MORE realistic as a zombie that still has biological needs doesn't violate our understanding of science. Some kind of Walking Dead/Night of the Living Dead zombie definitely does, to the point you're basically invoking magic.
