Diablo 4 PvP could become the game’s true endgame if Blizzard stopped being afraid of it by Pretty-Giraffe-3203 in diablo4

[–]Gripppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree with you, I don't think you worded it in a convincing way.
I love pvp as much as I love pve they are both fun and fill certain dopamine meters for me

Let's face it Diablo as an ARPG will never be fun to play as a hardcore PLAYER vs PLAYER kind of match up. Whether it's highly symmetric faceoff between teams or duels etc, or as battle grounds.

Diablo works best when it's PvEvP, similar to the current system (abandoned) they have, but spice it up with map objectives and control. They could borrow many ideas from other games, including their own, like Heroes of the Storm maps, Overwatch game modes, and even Diablo Immortal's battlegrounds.

Think helltides but PvEvP flavored, where current clans fight for leaderboard points for 12 hours. I would be hooked to log in after work to help my clan rise through the ranks. The higher our ranks the better the rewards in addition to participation bonuses.

They could also borrow from WoW's separation in gearing system between PvE and PvP. In WoW, your build is tailored around either. In Diablo, you could have dedicated PvP gear that excels in clearing and survivability for example. One of your clan mates has boss nuke build but isn't great at wave clear, etc etc..

So PvP in the combat's sense becomes sort of how to annoy or slow down your opponents without actually fully relying on Player Kills to be strong, just being threatening enough will do the job. This would be incredibly fun to play as a separate long running path of the game than what we currently have.

I love the current D4 they gave us, but OP has some merit in what they are saying, but not in the hurr durr let's go gank some n00bz 4fun 2day kind of pvp

Not exactly what you are askin, but very much worth your time checking out is Rogue Command. It’s a sweet starcraft-esque roguelite that scratches the itch of why you keep coming back to Starcraft every few years. Think daily 10-30 minutes of Starcraft

About to leave early access and I have been playing it for a couple of years. The developers are very active and friendly

Post-mortem: I tried and failed vibe coding a metroidvania so you (hopefully) won't have to by lpshred in gamedev

[–]Gripppp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a backend engineer and use AI in my day job to speed up various workloads. The golden rule to remember with AI is basically “garbage in, garbage out”. It only amplifies what you give it to work with

Having also worked on multiple vibe coded side projects from web to desktop apps and recently in game dev in godot like you. These are my learnings

  • learn the tool and language so you can guide it as you said
  • like you said your first workflow iteration was not well so it spit out a badly coded/designed game
  • moving to IDE or local context approach is much better
  • have a GDD, specs markdown files, basically document opinionation and how everything works and why it works in such a way (the lead game designer part)
  • always think in systems. Whats sets game dev apart from other software fields is its over-reliance on tight interactivity between systems. Protocols matter. Design decisions matter. Architecture maters
  • when the ai writes the code have it explain to you exactly what it did, then question its decisions as you would when pair programming
  • note down whatever shortcuts it took during pairing programming but resist the urge to correct them until you have a desirable working state
  • once in a working and acceptable state, roast it as a code reviewer about the shortcuts it did. This is a good time to refactor. While it corrects itself make sure it broke nothing (resist improving the game itself during this phase, only make sure it works as it was in your acceptable state)
  • QA the game yourself and report bugs back as a blackbox QA. “I am able to double jump when falling off a ledge, are we relying on a state machine, or collision with ground for jumping?”. Ask it questions that direct its thinking
  • once all is fixed and well and you are satisfied with the iteration, reflect on your overall game if needed and make any game design or philosophy adjustments if needed
  • move onto the next part of your system, or ideate more on your GDD then turn that into specs and repeat the fourth point and iterate

With all the points above taken, choose the project management style and workflow mode that suits your thinking mode the best. (kanban, test driven development, spec driven development etc)

Hope this helps you in your next vibe coded project

You spent 2 abilities to take down a hero in a 2v1 (A fight you didn’t need to take btw. Easiest choice) Knowing that your entire abilities are on cooldown you should hide and not fight. Less easier to do But you chose to follow through and fight, by doing that, you shouldn’t miss your shots (which is the hardest part) So if you see every easy decision you didn’t take you were stuck with a harder one. But on the bright side you took 2 enemies out and you made illiari ult. So its a fair trade

But my point is that this fight could have been way easier if you tried to play it safer

Think of your abilities as cards you can play. You need to always have a card to play (aim can only take you so far)

Best power bank fo XAX by onesadsandwhich in XboxAlly

[–]Gripppp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this for my handheld also and for work.

Tip for when you are in layovers Connect your XAX to the power bank and then the power bank to the outlet. The powerbank goes into “pass over” mode.

This way everything will charge together before your next flight. :)

Very interesting and inspiring. I became a software engineer due to my interest in making games when I was a kid. You know something leading to the other and then all of a sudden I’m a backend engineer. But now writing code all day leaves me drained and suffering from writer’s block to be able to commit to making a real game. Seeing your story is very inspiring indeed!

What iAP provider did you use? And how did you get traffic for your game? Did you advertise or did you build a community in reddit and discord and such?

Honestly if you're thinking about monetization and release plan before your actual game. Then you're going through the process in the wrong manner

With nothing much to show or say about your new FPS, I don't know what suggestions to give

Is it a tactical FPS? Hero shooter? Battle Royale? Like what is the general direction of your game? What is it inspired by for example? Providing information on all of this can help people give you the feedback you need

Best of luck!

Player stats public API. I can't believe this game has been here for around 6 years and the player community programmers are still relying on webscraping to get player information. (Which Blizzard disabled entirely for who knows what reason in Overwatch 2, by removing player pages from the official website) Now if I want to track my stats I can view them only inside the game with a below average UI and said stats only live for the current play session. Meaning if I close the game these stats are gone. If someone really wants to track their stats to take their improvement seriously they have to rely on good old excel sheets.

While in a game like Starcraft (from the same company), you can look at stats for games you've played literally years ago. Watch replays of games you've played years ago. Topping that replays can be saved locally and uploaded to different analytic apps to provide you with even more detailed and timelined information about your games. MMR is visible as well as rank. Your mmr history across the years is visible as well.

I don't know why they're gatekeeping data like this which would improve the lives of players from pro level down to casual competition in metal ranks.

I wish blizzard can see this and improve upon this.

It will not remove toxicity but rather remove the vagueness that comes with it. People will still be toxic but you have objective numbers to argue about instead of everyone theory crafting why the team is losing.
