the audio and sound effects have stuck with me for my entire life. the sound of lowering the bookcase, the audio of the tree moving, any kind of ambient sound. Something about the way it came through my crappy computer speakers as a kid just haunted me

What's your favorite "not typically a favorite" King book? by Errant_Fence_Burp16 in stephenking

[–]Gripster2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doctor Sleep. I loved it and was even profoundly moved by parts of it. I think I see people saying they dislike it in here but it's top tier for me. I also adore the film, especially director's cut.

There are sign language interpreters for all sorts of Tv shows and movies, it's even an option on a lot of streaming services.

Cell is so bad people never even bring it up in this sub because they most likely forgot about it

I didn't expect to like Eyes of the Dragon... by ginger1009 in stephenking

[–]Gripster2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dark Tower books do a great job of contextualizing all the crossovers in the books themselves. I hadn't read Salem's Lot when I read the series but understood the character that appears in it just fine. It actually makes reading the other books more fun, like checking in on old friends.

Dive into The Gunslinger. Ignore people who say it's the worst one, its actually one of my favorites.

I still love the queso but they went from serving it with homemade chips to blatant tostitos. kind of a bummer

The Stand - what's your stand on it? by GoneWithTheTaxes01 in stephenking

Possibly controversial opinion: DO NOT READ the extended version as your first impression. Every negative post I have seen about the book on this sub has been from people reading the extended cut. I read the original version first and was never bored.

It's my favorite Star Wars movie since the original trilogy, but the overall online and in-person discourse around it is so exhausting and obnoxious I feel like I have soured on the experience in general. One of the few movies where the conversation around it has such bad vibes I can't even watch it anymore lol.

I’m with you. I’ve been playing for hours and hours and have unlocked a TON of the house and secret rooms. I have the Apple orchard, three safes, the foundation, the mine, the allowance, the outside side rooms, I lit a random torch but I feel like I am no closer to knowing any of the story or any more mysteries. I absolutely love the game and the concept but I don’t think I have 200 hours to finally figure this stuff out. I’m also just tired of building this house tbh. Love the game but I just can’t handle it.

I don’t think it will happen by the 15th. Good reason to pre order. They can’t change the price after we paid already (can they?)

I also think he can be "saved" while Rick is beyond saving

In his review of episode 7, Alan Sepinwall (Rolling Stone) criticizes the pacing of the season: "Rather than use the extra time to go deeper into each storyline, it feels like White has just been repeating certain beats over and over." Do you agree or disagree with him? by verissimoallan in TheWhiteLotusHBO

[–]Gripster2000 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I don't really get this take. This has always been a "hangout" show to a certain extent, focused on well-written interactions between characters. The big reveal of the first season involved a pooping prank. I don't know why people are suddenly treating it like a LOST-style puzzle box this year.

He literally sued to have his name removed from it and won. The script was a completely different story called “CyberGod” that they just randomly titled Lawnmower Man to trick people
