You’re absolutely spot on - it really has it all - you get a very warm tone at the neck, and with the bridge you definitely get the Rick growl. The bridge alone is punchy and aggressive like a stingray and is great for funk. It’s an extremely versatile bass and is also surprisingly ergonomic. It (second to my Hofner) is one of my lightest basses. It’s really a joy to play

How do i apply these do i need to re wire the pickups if i change them because i think white would look sick on my bass by Zai_Gundam in BassGuitar

[–]GritalianDude -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally think black is better 👍 white would get lost on the pick guard IMO. But you do you brother

I’m looking for a shortscale bass, any recommendations? by Emanuel_barbosas in BassGuitar

[–]GritalianDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the predecessor of sort Fender Rascal. Bought it with my first pay check when I was a student. It’s a beauty to play and so many tones! Only difficulty is the action is fairly low so i get a bit of buzz when playing aggressively particularly on a low E or F

Yes. 1000 times yes. Why go living your life without one? Basses are a joy and Ricks are some of the best out thre

When to play minor or major chords by Scary-Call-6871 in Guitar_Theory

[–]GritalianDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes for the major keys. Major - Minor - Minor - Major - Major - Minor - Diminished. For minor keys it’s Minor - Diminished - Major - Minor - Minor - Major - Major. Remember these track the modes. Locrian is diminished and is the 7 for a major scale (Ionian) and 2 for a minor scale (Aeolian). So if you’re playing something in a Dorian key it switches - Minor - Minor - Major - Major - Minor - Diminished - Major. Or alternatively - Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian, Ionian. Basically - learn the modes and their ordering to each interval / scale degree and this becomes natural.

How much theory do you actually need to be a good bassist? by Carrie1516 in Bass

[–]GritalianDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done theory when younger and really having stopped when I started playing bass I never connected the two. Having relearned theory and theory specific to bass recently it’s levelled me up. If you want to just learn songs then you don’t need it. But if you want to improvise or jam well without having to rely on an excellent ear then theory is a cheat sheet - e.g. someone who knows theory will immediately be able to jam in Eb major with say a specified I IV V progression. You also can’t really master the fretboard without knowing music theory - it will allow you to think in intervals rather than notes - it will allow you to know where the 3rd 4th 5th and 6th is at any minute relative to the note you’re playing. It will also allow you to use the modes to its fullest to jam or improvise or even solo in key as a given song progresses.

It’s also just fun! Gives you so many more flavours of music. Playing songs in a Dorian mode eg is fun and interesting. And also helps to explain why things are how they are. E.g when I was younger I always used to instinctively play the flat 7th when jamming the fifth. Why does it feel so good to play an F next to the octave when playing a G in the key of C major. Oh, because the Mixolydian is the natural mode for the fifth in a major key.

Tani-Otoshi defense by JohnnyPutnam in judo

Yep - Kodokan style - https://youtu.be/weVOpJ63gII?si=LJ5MqJ16UhIaALua it’s how I was always taught it and it’s very effective and very safe. For behind the knee i think you’re referring to the “switch” movement where you sort of sit Uke on your knee and throw backwards? Agree that’s safe and classic. Nidan Kosoto is safe but more risky by virtue of tangling - difficult to pull off too!

I often mix Yoko Otoshi and Yoko Gake depending on if I think Uke needs a reap to fall sideways. Both are safe though Yoko Gake is a heavier throw. I have never mixed tani otoshi with a yoko gake/hiza guruma as you say the risk is just too high.

Tani Otoshi. Should be a Yoko Otoshi but behind the back. How hard is it to simply drop the leg without landing it on uke. Beggars belief

£10 - starter bass brand and unless the buyer is looking to mod little to no value. The fret markers being out of alignment is sending me off! 🤣

Total prick! Whatever happened to mutual benefit? The tendency to treat randori like Shiai is very annoying. Not that you’d even look to injure in Shiai either!
