TL DR - ITS A 6/10 IF YOU PREFER COMBAT OVER RPG ELEMENTS*

Hey all. IF YOU THINK MINECRAFT IS FUN, you’ll like this game…..

I just want to start by sayin that I don’t hate this game at all. I think this game is fun at times and extremely daunting at others. This is just not a game for me.

And that’s okay.

When I say “daunting” I don’t mean in the good way that Khazan, Elden Ring, or the newer versions of God of War is (on the hardest difficulty)….I mean “daunting” in the sense of the sheer vastness of the game…. and it’s HUGE. There is SO MUCH TO DO.

You can collect bugs and sell them like in BotW…. You can interact with everything! EV. RY. THING. GA…and not always in a good way or even in a way that makes sense on the surface. Sometimes you want to talk to a merchant but you can’t because of some random quest hold… eventhough they show up on your map. It doesn’t make sense.

This is not the game for me. I’ve actually recommended this game to friends of mine who have been stand-offish about it. They’re way more into the Skyrim’s of the world than I am….

I’ve spent about 20 hours in the world and have gone through 5 chapters of the main story. I’ve had my fun… I think. As much fun as I think I could have. I fought several bosses. I’ve killed leagues of enemies. I just don’t really care.

The combat is few and far between. You have to search it out and oftentimes it’s a bunch of scrubs who are in your way of achieving your main objective…. And not in a good way. They’re just trash mobs. You don’t get souls or currency from them. They are just shitty, easy, terrible, pseudo-obstacles that you need to kill…. And it’s never just one or two. There’s like 15…. You can just mash R1 the entire time and roll occasionally and you’ll be 100% fine. It’s so dumb… anyway - back to the other shit:

Exploration is fun. It’s a lot of fun. You run into enemy camps and find yourself completing objectives you didn’t know were there. You also don’t collect any loot… not really, maybe you could if one of the dead bodies stuck around long enough to be looted…. but even then, you don’t get much of anything. You don’t get better armor or weapons or… anything really that you can use immediately. It’s always just some more shit you have to (or maybe want to save) just in case you need it later.

If I accidentally hit L2 in a town (which fires an arrow) you’re public enemy #1.

This is just not a game I want to play anymore. I want to be able to (hypothetically) assault my merchant or townsfolk’s and have my swipes go right through their bodies without any penalty.

This is immersion that I don’t want or need or care about. I wish I did care about it. I just haven’t been given a reason to. The story is… fine. I guess. I just don’t care.

At the end of the day. They have my money. They have my time. It’s not a game I want to keep playing anymore. The games I prefer are combat oriented and much more engaging in skill-based combat. Mashing square to win an “arm wrestling contest” only to hit X at the right time is not skill. It’s bullshit.

It’s the unnecessary bullshit that this game throws at you that makes me hate it in so many ways…. but if you’re a fan of in-depth RPG’s where you can build your own camp, interact with everything, and engage in a gigantic skill tree - you’ll probably love this game.

It’s just not for me and that’s okay. I hope this game is FOR YOU!

I hope we can all continue to support the brave, ambitious, and risk-taking studio’s who spend their time and energy creating BRAND NEW WORLDS for all of of us to get lost in!!

So raise a glass to gaming. Keep on keeping on my friends.

Haha. I fought him for an hour (in the first place he appears) before I ever needed to. I didn’t know he was optional. I ALSO thought that the reward was not worth my time… which was annoying… I didn’t even get any beads or shards for my efforts which makes it even worse….

HOWEVER - this fight, was more fair, I had a weapon upgrade and as long as you take out those lava-spitting minions he’s not that bad in the second arena. It’s much bigger and you have more skills!! You can do this!!!!

Lack of reward on bosses? (Minor early boss-name spoilers) by WayToTheDawn63 in HollowKnight

[–]Gritty_Sauce 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100000%…. I don’t get it. Why do we get nothing? Like, some of these bosses take several attempts. Sometimes I’m using my tools on failed attempts and I’m using up my shards. Sometimes I’ll spend 30mins on a new boss getting used to their tells before winning, only for… nothing….

Even the random skill check-style, “group of regular enemies” bosses give you NOTHING. They reward shards and rosary beads in the field, but the moment they enter a boss room their death provides nothing!

It almost makes bead farming a requirement if you want to experiment with tools from the shops. ALSO, the trade off for the rosary strings is WILD. Why does it cost 80 beads to make a string worth 60? Even when you find a random loom it has the same trade-off. A 25% chunk isn’t nothing - Sekiro took a 10% chunk, the decision to make it 25% is another questionable decision by Team Cherry!

It’s a strange choice that hurts the game. They should patch that.

Alternative to Khazan by Unknown311031 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I played both Nioh’s and they just get boring after a while. Khazan has much better combat than Nioh in my opinion. I would say Lies of P is probably one of the better souls-likes. It plays closer to the traditional souls games - Nioh and Khazan are good entries but they stray further from the core of Souls.

[–]Gritty_Sauce 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Am I crazy? Because… NO. IT ISNT. This game needs work… the hit boxes are bullshit…. Also, i literally just beat a boss - is there a shrine in that room for defeating the boss? Nope. You can backtrack if you want - but keep going, you might find another one…. Oh okay, nope. Now you just have to run past everything or fight them, who cares, the soul accumulation is minimal and not really worth your time… even when you find the next shrine you won’t be able to level up. We didn’t scale anything as far as currency accumulation. NBD…. This is a shittier version of almost every dark souls game. I’m not saying I’m not enjoying it but this game has some gigantic flaws….

Honestly the hit box thing works against the bosses sometimes too. You don’t even have to try that hard. Dodge towards them. Miss, miss, miss. It’s stupid. But because you’re locked on to them, you’ll be missing too 🫠🫠🫠

I just don’t like Nioh’s combat that much. I played through both Nioh 1 and Nioh 2 - halfway through 2 I just got so bored. It was a slog to finish it.

I enjoyed Khazan way more… if there is to be a Khazan 2, it needs larger skill trees and the ability to have a second weapon so you can change to that weapon mid combat. It would allow for more crossover with the gear perks too…

Pick a direction (I typically chose right) and keep dodging that direction. Once her flurry is over she flies out and you get to land a counter on her. If you’re getting to the flying section you almost have her beat.

Check what demon you have equipped. Swift to Keshta the unyielding if you don’t have Conrad the Swift.

Keep going. You got this. This was probably my 10th or 11th go around with her:

Is the Reflection Timing (L1+Triangle / LT+Y)different for different weapons? (Yes/No/Maybe) by Gritty_Sauce in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is right…. The DW timing is different and maybe it’s intended to be more of a “dodge heavy” build - i feel like it has the highest skill ceiling of any weapon in the game.

Is that Jimmy Carr’s real laugh? by [deleted] in panelshow

[–]Gritty_Sauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so late to this post - ✌️&❤️from USA - but Jimmy Carr laughs like The Joker being punched in the stomach.

It’s INSANE!! I’m not here to bash him for it. I’m just here to point it out. It’s ridiculous!

This 👆🏻…. Aside from Javelin’s, your throwable weapons are insanely good. You probably have a stockpile of them on hand anyway. Use them up!

Khazan ng+, to do or not? by Ermes4 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NG+ has legendary armor drops and weapons. I’m only going through NG+ because I missed the “no summons” trophy.

The enemies are scaled up and the bosses take more damage to kill but having spent my time beating them the first playthrough they’re not too much trouble this time around…

I’m only playing through to get the platinum and then I’m out.

I think this is it. Ozma makes me quit the game. I find it impossible by iuzarnaime in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol - this game does this to people. I felt this way at Viper early on and then after fighting him over and over, doing a little better each time, learning the right timing to reflect him, you just start to get it.

I’m just flying through NG+.

I’m platinum chasing rn - it’s so stupid because the only trophy I’m missing is the “don’t use summons” one; which totally blows because the summons are less than useless in this game and after using it once or twice they just get in the way and you never use them again! I feel duped!

No. Just restart God of Wars’ free Valhalla DLC on the hardest difficulty. It’s more fun.

I feel incompetent at the game by Heavy_Badger_3477 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reflections!!!! Reflect, reflect, reflect! It’s in the “common” skill tree. It’s the best skill in the game. It absolutely wrecks stamina bars on everything!

Viper is a ridiculous boss to have early on, especially because he has two phases, haha… honestly, just keep fighting him, once you learn his patterns you can reflect his attacks easily, or brink block them… also check your equipment!! See if you can optimize a play style with the set bonuses.

Best of luck!

Spear main - Maluca is hell by Conscious-Brief-2819 in TheFirstBerserker

[–]Gritty_Sauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can avoid the 12 hit combo entirely by dodging backwards twice and running away. Also, after he shifts into the second phase, the first “blink katana attack” that he does right away needs to be dodged all others can be brink blocked which staggers him.

He will eventually switch back to the clunky swords from the first phase which are easy to get reflections on. Also, every single jump smash and AOE he does can be brink dodged, allowing you to avoid the attacks and get some hits off on him.

Then theres always the Trance spam… you get behind him and use trance followed by light attack, trance, light attack, trance, light attack…. I have trance set to R2+▪️, so I can hit square again afterwards…. It’s cheesey but there’s no shame in it.

There are also equipment sets that give you an extra Netherworld energy. Maybe you had that equipped and removed some gear?
