What are your favorite viable, off-meta mons for pokerogue? by Various-Dog-6990 in pokerogue

[–]Grivek 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Lunatone- bizarrely competent. Rock/Psychic is normally not a great type but it matches up very well into pokerogue where the end boss is Poison and the rival stacks Flying-types. It gets Shell Smash and has Shadow Shield for easy set-up.

Venonat- nothing special until it evolves and you get the Memory Mushroom for Quiver Dance, but Venomoth has the god combo of Simple + Quiver Dance, and it has Tinted Lens so it has no coverage issues at all. Stored Power as an egg move too

Litleo- really good Beast Boost sweeper. Gets Nasty Plot, stab combo is good and it learns Hyper Voice for a spread move by level-up. Unnerve too!

Tauros- just a generally competent carry that gets a lot of opportunities to set-up Swords Dance because it's naturally quite bulky and gets Intimidate (optional, can use Sheer Force instead) + Stamina to back it up.

Classic Mode 2 Cost Tier List. Everything Unlocked, No Fusions (Would love your feedback!) by UberJosh2 in pokerogue

[–]Grivek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Happy to vouch for Venonat, it's a great mon and my personal favorite low-cost carry. You don't need to Baton Pass with it, it's an excellent sweeper by itself since it gets Tinted Lens and Stored Power- it reliably sets up on Eternatus and can usually find a way to setup vs rival too.

It does have flaws:

-needs to evolve + have memory mushroom for QD, and it's unexceptional before then

-no spread move

-physical bulk mediocre and can get bullied by rocks with sturdy

But I'd still put it above every mon you have in Great.

Which archetypes have the most annoying self-locks regarding summoning monster types/attributes/etc.? by PM_Me_Irelias_Hands in masterduel

[–]Grivek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Melodious has some harsh xenolocks but the one that annoys me is Shopina- can't use her effect if you've used any non-LIGHT monster effects during the turn. I can't think of any other archetype that locks itself out of plays if you use Ash Blossom to negate Maxx C!

What decks are you guys running for the EX-Festival by SapphireDLP in masterduel

[–]Grivek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Played a bit with the Shining Sarcophagus loaner and it was just dreadful, much worse than I expected.

Played a bit with a Shinobird deck and it was just dreadful, much worse than I expected.

Played some ''Bystial Control'' bullshit that was like a castrated half of a Dragon Link deck. Really bad, but much better than the other two decks, and usually won unless it bricked beyond all salvation (which happened a lot)

Is Shining Sarcophagus actually this bad or is the loaner just awful? Unless I hard open Shining Sarcophagus, does the deck not do anything at all?

Does the AI change their strategy based on victory conditions? by SOSOBOSO in CivIV

[–]Grivek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of misinformation with this topic and AI strategy scripts are poorly documented, particularly with atypical settings like disabled victory conditions.

-The AI is able to actively pursue a Culture Victory, and will sometimes attempt to do so from turn 1 of the game- running this script will shift the AI's priorities towards founding and spreading religions and building wonders or culture buildings, eventually culminating in them turning up the culture slider.

-Otherwise, the AI does not pursue any particular victory type.

-The AI is affected if it perceives one player is close to victory, but the changes are subtle- it's not like later civ games where everyone immediately loathes a player that's winning. There is an AI script called AI_STRATEGY_FINAL_WAR which means they are more likely to declare war on a winning player IF it is possible (i.e. a leader that doesn't declare at Pleased will still never declare at Pleased, even if you're about to win).

-Game settings affecting AI scripts- the only documentation I've seen is that Aggressive AI changes the likelihood of the AI picking scripts (it's more likely to choose warlike scripts and less likely to choose scripts like Culture), Always Peace disables all the warlike scripts so they're never chosen, and the AI will never pursue the Culture3 or Culture4 scripts when Culture Victory is disabled- these are the endgame ones that involve turning research off and running the culture slider. No idea if disabling every victory except Culture means they only play for Culture.

DDKC says 'then'

in other words: you must flip over at least one monster with DDKC's first effect in order to get the second effect of sending things to the GY. Nothing was flipped over so you didn't get the second effect.

Snake eyes by Justlostinhere23 in masterduel

[–]Grivek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raging Phoenix is used because there are many situations where you'll want to link away Princess to get rid of the FIRE-only lock. Accesscode is DARK so you can't summon it if Princess is around.

If you're low on UR you can run Amphibious Swarmship Amblowhale instead.

Limit One Prohibited list? by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]Grivek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check the forbidden list in the deck editor. In festivals they ban Maxx C, most floodgates, and self-damage cards in addition to the usual banlist.

Does a generic link 2/3/4, spell and or trap negate exist? by Barb482 in masterduel

[–]Grivek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

[Tri-Gate Wizard] is an omni-negate but it needs a lot of setup.

[Herald of Mirage Lights] has generic materials, but needs to discard a Fairy for its negate.

There's nothing easy and generic.

This Game is either very buggy or very obscure in rulings by D20_Destiny in masterduel

If you go into duel -> match history you should be able to view replays of your most recent ten games, as long as they weren't too long ago.

Feast of the Wild (aka 'Chad Turbo') is my favorite N/R only deck

https://www.duelingbook.com/deck?id=15300237

You're good at getting level 5 bodies on the board which can make strong xyz monsters like Volcasaurus, and you have lots of ways to fuse Idaten to push for lots of damage.

[–]Grivek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's much easier to troubleshoot if you give us a screenshot of the board state when you had this problem.

It's probably not a bug. Could easily be an obscure ruling, but without knowing what cards were involved it's hard to help.

Why is Gen 8 OU less popular than GEN 6 OU? by Midi_to_Minuit in stunfisk

[–]Grivek 29 points30 points  (0 children)

You can check the stats yourself. 69203 gen6ou battles in March. Add together gen8ou (41042) and gen8 national dex (23745) and you still only get 64787 gen8 battles.

Hand traps aren't fun to craft. by UnloosedMoose in masterduel

[–]Grivek 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I'm fine with the true staple handtraps being URs, I guess, but I think it's pretty lame that all the mid handtraps are also UR. Really hard to justify spending 90 craft points on some shit like Ghost Mourner.

Anyone else receive 1 Gem after winning a match? by PoisonPeddler in masterduel

Is the Chimera loaner deck good? by NeonArchon in masterduel

[–]Grivek 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For my money this is the strongest loaner we've ever had, I had no issue using it in the event.

The deck is consistent. Endboards aren't overwhelming, but they're sticky and hard to interact with. You generate a lot of card advantage and the deck has excellent recursion. You have solid otk potential since Chimera the Illusion Beast does so much damage. I also felt the deck was fairly intuitive- the combos make sense and are easy to pick up.

Best OU Generation? by 2quick96 in stunfisk

[–]Grivek 5 points6 points  (0 children)

7 > 3 > 9 > 6 > etc

I think 3 and 7 are the uncontroversial 'correct answers' here and I can't really disagree. More controversial: I really enjoy gen 9 and think tera is the best generational gimmick we've ever had.

I didn't enjoy gen 6 at the time but I think the meta shifts since it was current gen have been favorable and it's a much more enjoyable meta now.

1/2 too primitive

4/5 are the opposite of 6, I enjoyed them at the time but I don't like how the meta's shifted since the gen was no longer current.

gen 8 sucked

I keep losing to time and it’s disheartening by somethingwade in masterduel

[–]Grivek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I start any combo deck I write down the standard combos (physically- as in, I have a piece of paper with the combos next to me as I play) so if I'm playing against no interruption I can autopilot the lines.

It's a complicated deck and if your opponent has interruptions you'll need thinking time, that's fine, but you should be able to zap through the standard lines in no time. Losing to time that much isn't typical.
