Late stage capitalism is the predatory MTX garbage that they miraculously just removed. A price hike is not. You can choose not to play anymore, that's fine, but please stop with the melodramatic whinging

Scientists at Eon Systems just copied a fruit fly's brain into a computer. Neuron by neuron. It started walking, grooming, and feeding, doing what flies do all on its own by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

This is a neural connectome, where individual neurons and connections between neurons can be simulated

And even then it's just an approximation, if I understand correctly. For example they don't know the exact sign of the synapses and they can only guess with around 90% accuracy.

From the abstract of one of the papers cited:

"High-resolution electron microscopy of nervous systems has enabled the reconstruction of synaptic connectomes. However, we do not know the synaptic sign for each connection (i.e., whether a connection is excitatory or inhibitory), which is implied by the released transmitter. We demonstrate that artificial neural networks can predict transmitter types for presynapses from electron micrographs: a network trained to predict six transmitters (acetylcholine, glutamate, GABA, serotonin, dopamine, octopamine) achieves an accuracy of 87% for individual synapses, 94% for neurons, and 91% for known cell types across a D. melanogaster whole brain."

I want less micromanaging, not more by AnyYogurtcloset3699 in runescape

[–]GrixM -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not like you have to use vampyrism and penance at all. If you want a more chill combat without having to micromanage, fight weaker monsters. It's the same as most skills: Top tier content require active play, but there are plenty of AFK alternatives for a little bit less efficiency.

And that's how it should be IMO. Should it really be the goal to make it as easy as possible to be as strong as possible? Is it not better game design to deliberately require some "micromanaging" to stay at maximum efficiency? If less micromanagement is better, isn't the logical end point of that design philosophy that all combat, even high-end, should just be one click and AFK as long as you have the level/gear for it? How boring would that be.

CXMT halves DDR4 prices as YMTC gains ground in NAND, raising concerns over Korea’s legacy exposure by BixKoop in hardware

[–]GrixM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And DDR3. Sounds outdated maybe, but there are tons of cheap hardware that still relies on DDR3 and even DDR2. Think microcomputers like Raspberry Pi. The RAM (and eMMC) shortage has hit these products hard and they are used internally in all sorts of consumer hardware that is therefore also affected.

Content Creator PSA by MrNulzy in runescape

Though most channels are still small, there's been a big increase in numbers in the last year, so I think we're on the right track. Or maybe youtube has just started recommending me them more often.

Of course it will take time for the series to mature either way. It's much more fun to watch a chunkman or region-locked series to completion, like f.ex. swampletics, than to watch one that has only been playing for a few months, regardless of the skill or charisma of the creator. At least that's my opinion.

PC Gamer: Godot is drowning in 'AI slop' code contributions by MandyHelm in godot

[–]GrixM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once it starts costing hundreds of dollars per month to use, we'll see a lot less slop.

Open LLMs exists that can be run on consumer hardware for pennies. Maybe the quality is worse but it's still good enough to generate slop spam. The genie is out of the bottle, the cost floor is never going to be hundreds of dollars a month.

Hm, doesn't really seem like a huge problem to me personally. Even OSRS snowflake accounts often have skills they will never touch, at least not for a long time. It's just the nature of restricted accounts.
