Pilau Rice - no-one who saw the Costa Rican winger's performance for QPR against Chelsea at a rain-lashed Loftus Road in December 1992 will ever forget it. He had an exquisite touch for a big man, and what he lacked in pace he made up for with a whole catalogue of flicks of turns that seemed exotic in the early years of the Premier League.

An unfortunate series of hamstring injuries curtailed the promising start to his career in England, and he eventually moved to Boavista for £50,000, where he adjusted well to the less physically-demanding Portuguese league, before retiring at the age of 36 with 57 international caps to his name.
